Soriano Rumors: Part Deux
I really hope this trade goes through. Moves like this can not only put the new player's production in the lineup, it can spark the entire team to perform at a higher level. Come on K-Dubs!

QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Who would you rather have (these are ESPN projections based upon what they have done this year)? ______G______AB_______R_______H______2B______3B______HR_____RBI______SB______BA_____OBP_____SLG _____154_____590_____113_____161______38______10_______5______63______50___0.272___0.349___0.397 _____161_____656_____120_____189______41_______3______51_____102______41___0.288___0.361___0.594 It's quite simple, anywhere in the order. We just have to figure out that contract thing, which I trust KW would do if he made that trade.

Comments on the Sox in ESPN's Power Rankings
At this point in time, we deserve to be losing spots. Hell, I feel a little overrated in the 4 spot.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Hopefully, except for McCarthy. If I'm in KW's seat, you hold a gun up to the 2 and ask me which one gets to live and I start putting together packages to get myself a new Center Fielder. I value McCarthy second behind Anderson. It's a close second tho. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) As would I. I'm going to ask a question. What's the difference if Pods gets on 40 more times in the year than Alf and Soriano hitting about 37 more HR's than Pods? Getting on doesn't guarentee a run, especially when you're not running like Pods used to. Hitting a HR guarentee's you a run. Not to be an ass or anything. Alf = Soriano

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:54 PM) The best lead off man in history, Rickey Henderson, hit many lead off homers Exactly. And while Soriano is not the consummate leadoff man, I would much rather see him there than Pods. Sure he leads off the game, but after that, it no longer matters what his spot in the order is. He will drive in Anderson and Uribe. QUOTE(S720 @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:55 PM) If there is ACTUALLY the 3rd option - BA AND Soriano - I would jump for JOY!!! I'm pretty sure the Sox value Anderson over all other names mentioned in all the rumors. EDIT:Oh and nifty. ^^^ When I quote two posts in a row it puts them in the same post for me. Props to administration for having a great message board with user-friendly features like that.

Soriano Rumors: Part Deux
QUOTE(rowand @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) When McDougal gets our best pitching prospect and a good 2nd prospect? Just my thoughts. I definitely would not consider Lumsden our best pitching prospect, and it's not entirely agreeable to call Daniel Cortes a "good" prospect. He wasn't bad by any means, but I wouldn't call him good as of yet.

The thread to end the slump
Again while I'm not positive of this, it appears he meant to make a purposely extremely negative thread to emulate the one he made last year which to him seems to have triggered our turnaround. (Silly guy, it was the Rally Crede!)

Some of you guys are making it sound like having power from the leadoff spot is bad. Just because the prototype leadoff hitter does not hit for power, does not mean you don't want your leadoff guy to have power. Podsednik gets on base at a slightly better clip than Soriano, has a lower BA, and of course much lower power stats while him and Soriano appear to have comparable speed. At worst Soriano is equal to Pods in LF defensively, maybe even slightly better. His arm is definitely better than Pods. But as far as a power hitting leadoff man goes, you might want to ask Robbie Alomar if you can be a good leadoff hitter and still hit for power. (Yes, Alomar did get on base at a significantly higher clip than both Alfie and Pods, but the Soriano-Alomar comparison still has relevance to this conversation.)

What I have learned the last few weeks
QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:45 PM) After last year, I thought that I wouldn't get upset if the Sox failed to win a playoff series for the next 20 years. If the Tigers win 110 games, the Twins win 95, and the Sox "only" win 94, I'll have to tip my hat to those other teams. However, I'm absolutely livid with the way the Sox have been playing this month. I can accept a less-talented team not making the playoffs or not going far into the playoffs, but not a team with this much talent. Their under-achieving is maddening. I agree. It's not that I won't be able to do with losing. It's the fact we have so much talent, and we aren't playing up to it that is frustrating.

For the record -- Scott Podsednik under no circumstances will ever start in CF over Brian Anderson.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) We don't have one if we get Soriano and Pods gets squeezed out of the lineup, which is my whole point. Hell, I'd rather have Iguchi lead off in that situation, but that isn't great either. Soriano's OBP is about 65 points higher with men on, and his slugging is almost 100 points higher. Because of that, I'd rather not have him as our leadoff hitter. They only lead off once a game.

The thread to end the slump
I think he's saying a lot of that for dramatic effect more than actual meaning.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 25, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) He probably the 2nd most complete hitter on the team. I would say that he has enjoyed similar success. None of this matters, dont you understand? All that matters is where do I find the girls like that at MY school. Or, where is that school at? I believe a transfer maybe in order.

Prospects Poll
The only one I really wanna keep is Sweeney. The rest, can go. Pitching prospects are a dime a dozen as it is.

7/24 Game Thread: Twins vs. Sox
Why the fish does everyone want to get rid of Garcia? The man on the mound at the start of this game is the one who has got to go.

I wouldn't give up on it just yet.

They would probably wait till his start is done.

I'm warming more and more to the thought of Brandon leaving. It's time to spark this team. Brandon could have been a major cog in the rotation for years to come, but by no means is he an automatic Cy Young or anything of the sort. I'll support the move for Soriano and I'll support the non-move of standing pat.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb and assume the Kenny won't fish us, that he will make a deal that leaves us in a better position to win.

Please get rid of Pods in this deal. I can part with BMac, although it will take some adjustment. BA is now very important to me here. Kenny is obviously confident in other arms in our system. (ala Tracey, Haeger, Phillips)
