QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) A good pitcher pitches over defensive mistakes. Agree. And Garland did it twice after the s***ty defense.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) Yes....bloopers happen, it's part of baseball. Garland's not a strike out pitcher though, and he can't keep allowing homers in situations like he did tonight. Bloopers are especially going to happen against a sinker ball pitcher. He relies on his defense, and his defense elt him down. And making one bad pitch after all of those good pitches through 6 innings isn't going to make me change my mind. He pitched in and really fooled some guys tonight. Had a bad walk that led to a run, and then Polanco had a good piece of hitting for the bomb. But whatever. There are plenty of times to trash Garland for the way he's pitched this year. TOnight was not one of them.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) he was awfully close to getting out of the 6th tied 2-2 Exactly, and if Guillen and Infante hit screamers to score those runs that's one thing, but Jon made 2 awesome pitches on both of those guys and it didn't work out.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:20 PM) It's meant to prove that the Quality Start stat is incredibly flawed. Flawed as it may be, throwing 9 QS in 12 chances means you aren't a bad pitcher. He's had 3 'bad' games all year. In every other game he's given up 3 ER or less. To me that isn't anywhere near, and I quote, "bad pitching."

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) His ERA for the game was 9.00. You should increase your expectations. Yah. That's the way to judge how a pitcher pitched on a night. He did not pitch well in Toronto, but he pitched well tonight. His defense let him down. Jose pitched well last night, but if the final pitch he threw is a foot more to the left or the right do you say he didn't pitch well? It goes beyond results.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) A quality start is a 4.5 ERA WTF is so good about that? WHo said it was so good?
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) It's amazing how many Garland apologists there are. LOL. I'm the farthest thing from a Garland apologist. But whatever. He threw the ball pretty well tonight.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:12 PM) I don't want the finesse Freddy. You have to make the playoffs before you can worry about the rotation. If you have bad pitchers like Garcia, and Garland going 40 pct of your games, good luck making the playoffs. Garcia has 9 quality starts in 12 chances this season. That is bad?

QUOTE(illinilaw08 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 08:04 PM) Garland HAS had good stuff the past couple starts which is encouraging. The difference is just that he keeps having these BRUTAL mental lapses that are killing him. Another reminder for people, half this board was ready to ship Contreras out at the trade deadline last year, he wouldnt even make the postseason rotation. We know Jon has the stuff to be at worst a mediocre pitcher, and with a mediocre 5th starter who just wont get the ball in the postseason, I am feeling pretty confident in this team. I thought Garland threw the ball pretty well tonight. A stupid walk to Shelton and a good piece of hitting by Polanco gave up 2 runs. Then he got blooped to death in the 6th before he made a bad pitch to THames. He really only had one bad pitch that whole inning.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) Are you serious in thinking that most contending teams don't have holes? Hell, the Yankees spend $210 million a year and they still have f***ing gaping holes on their team. It's insane. I couldn't even believe what I was reading.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) Well....Mackowiak's costed us two runs this inning. Keep making excuses for it....but KW's letting this team down right now. You are living in lala land. You can't just pick out a player and say, oh, let's go get him because we need a center fielder badly. Baseball doesn't work like that. Teams are asking an arm and a leg for everything. There is a reason you dont see any trades going down right now.
-
PUll Paulie off the field!!!! f***ing bloopers.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Ozzie should pull Mackowiak off the field. Seriously, this is f***ing pathetic. I can't believe we pitched to Guillen there, with Infante on deck. Infante hits .562 against Garland.
-
I'm tired of these f***ing bloopers.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:35 PM) Horses*** effort by Mackowiak. HOW LONG WILL THE WHITE SOX WAIT BEFORE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT CENTER FIELD? Cause there is nobody in the minors ready. A trade right now is not viable. Teams would be asking way, way too much for even mediocre CFs.

What a stupid camera angle.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:21 PM) Rogers twins, J. Moyer, did the same thing vs the Sox this year. We hit him hard in the first inning, and scored some runs. However, we left on a couple of guys in scoring position, and we struggled against him the rest of the game. Exactly. So going up against a good pitcher who normally does pretty well against you, wouldn't you want to be agressive and try to get all the runs you can? THey ahad a good relay play. A hell of a lot of times it isn't a good relay play. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) Are the stats in your sig from April? I updated sometime a thte end of may.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Pitchers somehow settle in all the time when an offense lets them off the hook. Jphat, I know you're going to argue this because it has a shred of negativity towards the Sox, but it's a normal occurance in baseball. Well what happens if Joe gets out with runners on 2nd and 3rd. What if that pumps Kenny Rogers because he got out of a big situation? The same thing might happen. He might 'settle in'. We've won a lot of big games with Joey wavin em in, and I can't remember many games he lost because he did it.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:16 PM) It might be the least ridiculous thing I've read all night. Well, then, I've got nothing for you.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) You must not read a lot. Safe to say I was using a bit of a hyperbole, especially after reading this board for a couple of years. How about most ridiculous thing I've read tonight.
-
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) The Gambler has settled in. Thank you, Joey Cora. THat's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read.

Great play by Granderson.
-
Jon looks great today. Only the stupid walk and the bad pitch up to Inge were his only mistakes. Nice to see.
-
LOL. Coco dropping some hard core f-bombs.
-
LOL. The ball always finds you.
