  1. Haha. man you guys worry too much. If you can have three dominant pieces in a bullpen you are good to go. We have that. Jenks - 9th Cotts - 8th Politte - 7th Then you have the insurance guys. Hermanson coming in after that if he's healthy. Viz (who was pretty damn good from May on). If we get another lefty thats great. He'll pitch to an occasionally lefty, usually not in a do or die situation. I think we're good to go.
  2. You guys worry too much. Obviously any starting pitcher could go down at any time for any team. It's the luck of the draw. We had pretty good luck with it last year. We could again this year, or we couldn't. Bottom line is that we have 6 pitchers capable of starting at a fairly high level. Most teams go into the year with 4 and have to work from there. We have the leg up on pretty much eveyone in the pitching department.
  3. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 03:34 AM) I said he did bad in the playoffs because at DH when you are slow on the bases, you really need to be a run producer. He seemed to have compltely lost his power as of late and I bet he doesn't crack 15 homers in Seattle He only led our team in BA with runners in scoring position for the season. He carried us on offense for the first couple of months when we built our lead and Paul and the crew were struggling on offense. And he was never a "jerk" with the Sox.
  4. Who the hell cares if the Cubs get him? They aren't even in our league.
  5. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) The key difference to me is that Tejada is signed for 4 more years, Garland has 1 year left. Garland for Tejada straight up is a no-brainer. Garland and Uribe (who the Sox wouldn't have a space for after Tejada comes aboad) for Tejada is a no-brainer, too. If that happened, you would use El Duque as a stopgap 5th starter next year. Since Gio and Haigwood are gone, you either pray that Broadway can be ready by 2007 (not likely) or look to the free agent market after the 2006 season. And if any pitcher gets even remotely hurt or sucks for awhile we are screwed. We'd have good offense with no pitching. Just like 02-04. Do we not remember the pain of not having a decent 5th starter? It wasn't that long ago.
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) I think that Juan is a better VALUE than Tejada. His price tag and what we would have to give up in a trade isnt worth it to me. I think Uribe is one step away from being at the top of the league for SS. Not only that but he is a team leader and a field general, it has been said that the hispanic population on the sox gravitate towards him and look up to him. Exactly. Tejada is a better player than Juan, but it's all about value. Plus I think Juan is still improving at the plate while you know what you are going to get from Tejada.
  7. He was awesome in August and September when he gave up on his team. I think his OPS was all the way up to .700 for those two months. We don't need high priced drama. I like Juan.
  8. Like rotoworld says, he just gave up on his team at the end of the year. A real whiner. You signed the contract for all that money so sit there, play shortstop and shut the f*** up.
  9. Thats too bad. He got some big hits for us.
  10. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) Peralta may, but I see Sizemore getting even better next year. The guy is a good player, there's no doubt. Yah, I'd count on Peralta before Sizemore. I expect that most of the Indians' players to have similar numbers. Not much better, but not much worse either. Though I do think Coco's numbers will come down a bit. Closer to his .760 three year OPS.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) This was really their only option, and at least Hoffman and his agent didn't dick them around and gave his decision today. I don't know, this may be a better deal for the Indians, I like Hoffman, but Wickman threw the hell out of the ball last year. Will be interested to see numbers on this one. I bet he's pretty solid, but I doubt his numbers will be anywhere near as good this year. Back toward the median.
  12. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 04:44 PM) Darren Dreifort of 2005. Good luck with that albatross deal Toronto. You stole my comparison
  13. Smells of Darren Dreifort. Same deal he got too.
  14. CC is pitching for Cleveland. Silva and Santana for MInny. I'm sure there will be more. It's not a big deal to me. There will be so many good pitchers that I doubt starters will be going more than even 4 or 5 innings.
  15. LOL. Now that he is gone, Aaron Rowand is the greatest player on Earth and the reason we won the world series.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 09:43 PM) He does and yes they are. Like I said in my last post, Marlins fans are getting kind of angry that they're only getting pitching prospects. Also, for Luis Castillo you should be able to get more then a relief prospect and another decent one. Not when Castillo's hip is a big big question mark. Many scouts say he's speed and burst is just done, and the rest of his game might be next. People weren't willing to give up a whole lot to take on a 5 million 2b who may or may not be able to play everyday.
  17. LOL. THat is a lot of money for a guy liek that. I woulda thrown in the extra money and just resigned Millwood. Millwood OWNED us last year too, so it really doesn't matter from our perspective.
  18. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) For what its worth, Buster Olney had this to say in his blog on ESPN.com... I still think its a good deal for the Twins, but he makes some good points. He came to this thread and stole those points from me!!!
  19. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) It all depends on who the Twins sign to DH. They will get some power there. And when did Graffanino become a guy with a lot of pop in his bat? In 379 AB's last season, Graffanino hit 7 homeruns. In 439 AB's last season, Castillo hit 4 homeruns. It's really not that big of a difference. I disagree. we'll see I suppose. It was fun!
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) Castillo is a better player than Graffanino overall, and would still be the better 2-hole hitter. He will put up much higher OBP's over the years than Graffanino will ever be able to dream of, unless he manages to repeat on his career year last season. I don't know what to say to you if you think you can compare Tony's PH and utility OBP to Castillo's everyday OBP. It's like apple and oranges. I can't believe you really think that. Hurry hurry hurry. I gotta go.
  21. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) Castillo is a better player than Graffanino overall, and would still be the better 2-hole hitter. Castillo is a better player than Graffanino overall, and would still be the better 2-hole hitter unless its on a team like the Twins who need more pop. Is that easier to follow? I copied your whole sentence for you.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) Thank you. It's so obvious that I can't believe I even have to debate it. Man you guys don't read. I'm not debating a whole player, I'm debating a 2-hole hitter. I know I'm not a great typer, but its not that hard to follow is it? Do I need to proof read or something? Thats why its so hard to argue on this board. People you are arguing with go and change the topic half way through and then call oyu an idiot for something you didn't say. I love it!
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) I have a feeling they're going to make another move to strengthen their infield. They still have an opening at 3rd base, and wouldn't be shocked at all if they sign Nomar. A lineup with Castillo-Stewart-Nomar-Mauer-Hunter-Morneau is a very solid start, especially with their very strong pitching. Yah, its a solid start for a chance at a wild card. They have a hole in right, 3rd, SS, 1st, and DH. Thats a lot of holes.
  24. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Castillo hit in front of Delgado for one season. Luis Castillo is better than Tony Graffanino. You are completely wrong. There is a reason that Graff couldn't start for the longest time on the Royals. I don't think he's a better 2-hole hitter. Castillo is definitely a better all around player though. I never said he wasn't. But keep putting words in my mouth. And the reason he didn't start is because he was a butcher in the field. But for a team like the Twinks, if they don't get a lot more run producers, good defense won't matter.
  25. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) What? Castillo had 10 SB last season, Stewart had only 7 SB. Castillo: .370 career OBP Stewart: .364 career OBP Stewart has a bit more homerun power than Castillo. Castillo will be leading off with Stewart batting second. Nice try though. That was my point. Castillo gets on base a good clip, but doesn't do anythign when he's on there. The Twinks problem is not getting guys on, they were actually better than the Sox at that. They need guys to drive them in, and this doesn't help it. And I obvioulsy meant .391 clip, FTW! haha. gotta go. time to argue more later.
