  1. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) How do you figure it's one quarter of his plate opportunities? Even assuming that he hits poorly in every single road game (which he doesn't), 80% or more of the pitchers in the league are right handed. That already screws up your statement because it's more like 40% are home versus righties. Since when is Crede successful in more than about 30% of his at bats? He rarely hits over .250, and his career OBP is .303. I'll admit that Blalock isn't the greatest player in the world, but Crede isn't exactly Mike Schmidt over at 3B. Never once did I saw they did. You are acting like I think Crede is better than Blalock. I don't. I said they were roughly equal, both with HUGE faults, and neither one of them all that great. THATS what I said. But don't rely on reading people like Jabroni's (SSH) posts, cause they just make s*** up that I say to make it go along with their argument. ANd I understand your point. My point is this. He is a terrible, terrible player on the road on the whole. Nobody can argue that. When you are a big hitter and have an OPS lower than Pods, thats all that you need to say with that. So that is HALF of the games of the year. Then he is also terrible against lefties. Nobody can argue that. And yes, you will get more ABs against righties than lefties on the whole. So its more like ~35% or so. But that is a severly limiting player. You almost have to not play him at all against lefties, and then match him up against good fits for him on the road. That, to me, is not a good player, and certainly not a $5 million player. At least you dont' talk s*** and go say, "look at everyone else. they agree with me so I am right. You make your argument and I can dispute it." I appreciate that. I can work with that. Not with stuff from Rock and Jabroni.
  2. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Just scanning this thread, the majority of posters think that Blalock is a better player than Crede. RockRaines doesn't really need anyone to back up his argument. You can have everyone on this board write a thesis on it and I wouldn't care.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 20, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) Yes, but that point has been made several times, and the counter will be--yeah but he only hits at home games against right handed hitters. There is really no reason to respond to the ridiculously wrong argument that Crede is a better player. JP is a statistic manipulator, and when it is done to him, he laughs it off as wrong. It is better to ignore the arguments. BTW good post anyway. It's quite obvious that we want two different kinds of players, and thats fine. You just look stupid posting my argument and why it differs in everyone's post that agrees with you though. It makes it look like you are looking for somebody to back up your argument. But I tell you right now, there is nobody on this board who is going to make me change my opinion on the subject. If you'd like to go inteview a GM or asst GM, then I might listen. No need to keep dragging my name into things. You want a player that is successful in one quarter of the opportunites in which he comes to the plate. I don't, nor will I, so you can just drop it.
  4. QUOTE(3E8 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 09:03 PM) About 10 of those lines you posted are compiled from a sample size of 15 at-bats or less. The Safeco line is the only one you need to prove JFat wrong. You haven't proved much of anything with the rest of them. Hey hey. Thats with a 'PH', not 'F'
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) JP??? He DOES suck everywhere huh? LOL. I was just going to let it go after a post like that, but it appears you don't want to. All anyone needs to know is away from Arlington, he is .238/.296/.396/.692 with 23 fewer HR, 42 less walks, 9 MORE k's, in 21 MORE ABs. Against lefties, he is .222/.271/.353/.624. So effectively he is one of the worst hitters in the league unless he is at home in Arlington facing a righty. If you want a player like that, fine, go for it. I think that means he is not all that great. And thats the last you'll hear from me on it. If he comes, I'll root for him like no other, but I will worry about 3b. I'm done with this subject. It is obvious we disagree.
  6. Byrnes sure is talking like he is counting on Young no matter what, so I doubt much will get in the way of the deal unless the MRI is just awful. But if it is even just questionable it'll go through, just like Pedro and just like Beckett.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) BTW, I've said this before, but I think it's time to repeat it. An AL scout told a close friend of mine that Blalock's work ethic and attitude were really poor last season (reminds me of 2 guys we traded for last season). They think that the whole homer or nothing approach done by the Rangers has robbed Blalock of his tremendous hitting approach. The scout definitely thought the player needed a change of scenery. At least I can argue with you still. We had differences in game threads, but at least you make sense and are capable of reading and arguing a point. Others just make s*** up and hurl insults. I thank you for that fathom and appreciate you more than ever now, even if I think you are wrong most of the time.
  8. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) How do you know that?? How has he hit when visiting other "hitters parks" All we know is that he plays well at home. What other teams has he played for? Huh? Just because he plays well at home does not mean it is park specific. Any idiot would know that. LOL. Nice. Now you call me an idiot. You know your argument is going to s*** when you start reaching for insults. Thanks for playing.
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) And what park does Crede play in??? I will give you a hint, one of the best hitters parks in ALL of the MLB. And his OPS is lower??? Thanks for playing. Secondly he is 25 years old, has a higher ceiling, is already a better offensive player and defensive player. You can try and section off his OPS in domes, grass, half seasons, playing with eye black, it doesnt change the fact that Blalock is a superior player. Also nitetrain=Vafan=jphat IMO LOL. I assure you I am none of those posters. But I'm glad you just lump me in a category because I disagree with you. Whatever you want to say and make up aqbout Blalock you can, but the one thing that is INDISPUTABLE, is that he is good in Texas, but sucks ass EVERYWHERE else. Paul has a much better Home OPS than road, but his road is at least decent, and that is with one awful season that is obviously an exception.
  10. QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) Baseball execs are paid to project, and I can see why the White Sox might be intereseted in Blalock. He has tons of talent and is battling the inconsistency of youth. I think the White Sox are also projecting with Garland and Crede. Garland = turned down a contract extension and on the open market in 11 months. Crede = cranky back and Scott Boras as his agent. Exactly. And the reason no one has made some great bid to get him with that great contract is because the only thing that they are gaurenteed is a hitter that has a .707 OPS unless he gets to hit in one of hte best ballparks in the league. Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? He can only be good when he hits in good hitters park. Put him in Cleveland and he'll be lucky to have a .750 OPS. So maybe he'd be good in Texas cause of his solid home OPS. But for any other team they are taking a huge risk because all he has shown so far in his career is tha the can hit at Arlington and sucks everywhere else. THats a HUGE qualification for a "good" player.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) And I would predict about 98 pct of the executives in baseball. No chance in hell. And the ones that do are hoping that their coaches can turn him around. Just like all executives think their coaches can do.
  12. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) You cant just eliminate half the games he plays to prove your point. His home batting perfomance is half of who he is. Stop trying to manipulate statistics to prove your point, it doesnt hold water. THats fine. Add in him playing at home and he is an average player. .809 OPS in one of, if not the best, hitting park in the league. THats average to bad.
  13. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) Okay, so you DO think that Crede = Blalock. Just wanted to get it straight. Exactly. What is so hard for you to understand. Jeez. This is why you pissed off everyone and their brother last year and got banned on two seperate freaking boards. Pay freaking attention to what I write or don't freaking respond. It's easy.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) his opinion, most fans opinions, most scouts opinions, most GM's opinions, most managers opinion, most statistics show this. Guess you are the minority. Most statistics? They show he is one of the worst hitters in the league away from Arlington.
  15. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 05:16 PM) You stated that Crede and Blalock were even players. I quoted you above. Those were your words, not mine. Now you are trying to deny that you ever said it. Exactly. I think they are even. What is the problem here. YOU are stating that it is clearly otherwise when it is not.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Nothing I have said is untrue or made up. In the past, you have stated that Podsednik is a better leadoff hitter than Sizemore. This is false because Sizemore will produce more runs in that role than Podsednik. Afterall, scoring runs is the most important thing for a leadoff hitter to do right? Earlier in this thread you stated that Crede and Blalock were about even players. Here's the post: This is also false as Blalock is clearly a better player than Crede. You shouldn't make statements if you intend to deny them later on in a debate. It ruins the credibility of your argument. No Blalock is not "clearly" the better player. That is your opinion. He is clearly the better player while playing in the ballpark at Arlington. Unfortunately, if he was on another team he would only play there 3 or 6 times next year. And as I have stated numerous times, Pods is a better leadoff hitter, while Sizemore is a better overall hitter. You can't seem to comprehend that though. You just say, "oh, look at all those big numbers, he must be a better leadoff hitter." Either way its a matter of opinion and not fact, but you don't state it like that. Quit putting stuff in people's mouths. No need for you to get run off of another board.......again.
  17. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) Jphat seems to use stats to show that our players are better than any players on any other team. He can't seem to accept that players like Grady Sizemore and Hank Blalock are better than Scott Podsednik and Joe Crede. Thx Jabroni, talkin out your ass again. Just like you did the first time when you got banned. I did not say that about either [player. I said Blalock sucks on the road and it would be increidbly dumb to pretty much trade Garland for him. And we've been through the Sizemore thing 100 times. Each time you make s*** up and look dumb for it.
  18. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws "Aware fo the situation. Whole world is aware of the situation." Listen around 6:00. But yah. KW is bluffing. Blah blah blah. ftw
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) No, KW commented on Hermanson's back, and has not said diddly about Crede. LOL. Why don't you go listen. If I'm wrong, you can come on here and prove me wrong. I very well could be, but thats what I remember hearing. Did you listen to that conference call?
  20. You guys all need to go listen to KW's press conference from the........Mack signing I think it was. He talks about the Joe's back and why he was so diligent on getting another player in to back him up. He said knowing that htere could be a potential problem would eat away at him if he didn't do something, but he didn't expect there to be any problem.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) I'm not the person looking to trade Garland....KW is! Obviously, Garland or his agent have said something that makes them feel there's not a chance in hell he'll come back to the Sox. Thus, they're looking to get something for him now. KW is in win mode now. People are nuts if they think he'd rather get two draft picks when Garland leaves than someone who can help the organization now. And who knows how Crede's back is doing. The reports may say his back is fine, but judging some of the Sox's moves this offseason, it doesn't seem like they're confident he'll hold up. First, read below about his back. Second, we don't know that KW is shopping anybody. We've heard reports, which have often times come back to be completely untrue. See: Pierre, Juan. I agree that Garland will likely not be back. So you trade him for someone good. YOu don't trade him for a bad to average player that can't hit lefties and can't hit on the road. THat is the definition of not getting value.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) Says who? I haven't heard that at all. In fact, I heard the opposite -- that the Sox are concerned with the two herniated discs in Crede's back. KW said that. KW said that Crede was doing well in the offseason and that he will be good to go. The thing is he said that he couldn't go into the season knowing that something bad could happen that he previously knew about, without doing something to back it up. Buts its possible KW doesn't know what hes talking about. I mean he's only the GM
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) Who can't hit lefties either. And then if we have to start Mackowiak on an everyday basis, the bench is severely weakened. And if you look at the prices getting paid to players, Crede will likely get equal to what Blalock does once he becomes a FA. Well, if you had a contingency plan for every contingency plan, you wouldnt have enough spots on the team. Reports are that Crede's back is okay. It certainly was in the playoffs. There is a small chance that it flares up for a DL visit again, and Mack can play those 15 days. You don't trade Jon Garland, so you can feel good about your health at third. Especially with a player like that. Just go sign Joe Randa if thats the case. You dont ahve to trade a pitcher that just won 18 games.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) What everyone seems to forget with these rumors is that the Sox seem to have very little confidence in Crede's back condition. When you take the injury, and combine that with negotiating with Boras, it seems very likely he'll get traded also. Thats why we have Mack.
  25. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) Good thing there's a lot more righty pitchers than lefties in the league for Blalock to rake on, huh? Crede: .787 career OPS vs. Left / .726 career OPS vs. Right Blalock: .624 career OPS vs. Left / .880 career OPS vs. Right Blalock is worth his weakness against lefties because he is so strong against righties. Crede is only above average against lefties and weak against righties. There's a lot more righthanded pitchers in baseball than lefties. Factor in Blalock's modest contract (4-years, $20 million) like fathom said and you will see why no GM in baseball would rather have Crede over Blalock. But my point is that evens out. You don't trade a pitcher like Garland to get a player that is just a little bit better than the one you have. And we have Crede locked up for a couple of more years and a price that will be even cheaper than that. 5 Million is ridiculous for a player that has a road OPS lower than Scott Podsednik for the last three years. And I'm aruging with a guy who think Podsednik sucks. You are pretty much getting a player that will only help you out when he is at home against right handed pitchers. That is signficantly cutting down on his worth.
