  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) Three year splits? Ok, he's been good in your certain situations over the past three years. In your certain situations. Forget the fact that he's sucked the rest of the time, too, and has been terrible as a pinch hitter over his career, and has been an overall terrible player this year, too. LOL. Yah, lets just focus on the fact that he sucks with nobody on, and totally ignore than he is one of our best hitters with Runners on over the last 3 years. Because, man would I love him to get a single with 1 or 2 outs and nobody on instead of a single with bases loaded. Right.
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) he's not pinch hitting in that situation... He has made three outs already then comes through that one time in the 8th inning and you proclaim him your savior. If he starts, or see's action as a pinch hitter, he is costing this team games. There is no way to argue against that, not when you suck to high heaven in 75% of your at-bats. As long as that one AB comes in an important situation with RISP, I'm fine with it for a bench player. If he was making 6 mil a year itd be a different story. I'd much rather him go 0-3 with nobody on in his first 3 ABs, and then come on and get a base hit with men on 2nd and 3rd in the 8th inning. ANd if you disagree about that, then I don't even see why we are arguing about it.
  3. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) Since JPhat is afraid to post his precious PHing stats.... Here's what Timo has done as a pinch hitter on his career. .211/.245/.295 Plus he's 0-9 when PHing for a DH which for some reason is listed as a completely different split... BUT HE'S A REALLY GOOD PINCH HITTER!!! :rolly And I bet most of those were starting an inning or with somebody on base. IN which he is terrible. I'm not disputing this. He's not going to hit many game tying HR with nobody on.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) Threw what back in my face? You said he's good in 'clutch' situations, and I gave you clutch situations. Now you want pinch hit numbers, and he sucks in those too? Let's see -- there's about five people backing me up, and one person backing you up -- yourself. Yet, the rest of us are wrong, and you're right. So what do you have to say about those three year splits with the most important situations in baseball?
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) Unless he's actually pinch hitting, then he sucks again. LOL. Exactly. I suppose those 277 ABs with RISP where he hit RISP .332 .359 .466 .825 in 277 ABs over the last three years were imaginary. Just some mistake. All bloopers. Not important. Not nearly as important as being a leadoff hitter. Hitting with nobody on. I'd much rather him have that line with nobody on. Yah.... I know you guys hate Timo, but cmon, you're looking a little foolish at this point.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Put me in my place? LOL. Yep, OBP means nothing. Not important for pinch hitters? Ok, now I've heard it all. Keep rambling, though. LOL. LOok at those numbers buddy. THOSE ARE THE EXACT SAME NUMBERS THAT YOU SPOUTED OFF AT THE BEGINNING OF ALL THIS. Anad now you are trying to talk about OBP. LOL. Nice try. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) "Tell me when you hit it." Ok, Timo, how about with RISP? .200/.276/.320 line. How about with RISP and two outs? .250/.308/.333. How about with men on and two outs? .192/.276/.269. Yep, certainly applies here. LOL. I threw that right back in your face and now you try to change the subject. Like I said. Thanks for playing.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) That's fine... Those numbers only indicate how much he sucked in his other AB.... NEWSFLASH!!!! Most of your at-bats come without RISP, and they are almost equally as important as RISP, because they INDUCE RISP at-bats. All those outs he made when nobody was on cost this team games. But go ahead and point to that select 25% of At-bats where he a marginally above average OPS, then call someone ignorant. That will help your argument. Not when you are a pinch hitter. Nobody here is trying to argue that Timo is a good leadoff hitter or table setter. He's not. He's horrible at that. His splits say as much. But when he needs to knock in the big run, he usually does it. Thats the bottome line. You are sitting there trying to argue that he's not a good leadoff hitter. I KNOW. That's not what I'm arguing.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) 58 OPS+. .285 OBP. Not worth the money. Exactly. Look at those three year splits. OBP is really important for pinch hitters trying to knock in runs with men on base. Right. Thanks for playing. By the way, you seem like a nice guy, so I don't mean to throw this in your face, but you just wouldn't let it alone, so I had to you put you in your place about it. Nothing personal.
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) He sucked last year, too. Wow. For someone who spouts off numbers left and right, I didn't figure you'd be so ignorant. RISP .397 .419 .500 .919 RISP 2 out .412 .444 .500 .944 Men on , 2 out .296 .333 .352 .685 in 54 Abs Including numerous game winning or game saving plays. Three year splits Runners on .314 .338 .428 .766 in 428 ABs RISP .332 .359 .466 .825 in 277 ABs RISP with 2 out .323 .359 .468 .827 in 124 ABS. Anything else you'd like to say.
  10. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) You and Ozzie in a love triangle with Timo? Jeez...he sucks. Why don't you see that? He sucks as a starter. He sucks in pointless games. He doesn't suck as a pinch hitter, however.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Wow. Fine, then AJP is an asshole, Juan Uribe and A. Rowand have 30 homer potential, and Jon Garland is a bust. It would be one thing if I just talked about last year, but I said both years. Why would we just analyze the year he hasn't done as well, just so you can bash another player and whine, whine whine
  12. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) Last year Billy Koch was our closer. Last year Thriller was in our relief crew. Last year we didnt have a 5th starter. Dont use stats from last year to bolster what happens this year. If someone hit 400 last year and is hitting 100 this year. They suck this year. Yah, lets just put this year in a vacuum and forget everything else. It has no bearing on anything.
  13. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) What is 'numerous games'? 2? He had the game wiinning HR earlier in the year against the TWins, though that was a start, he beat the Angels against awesome closer Krod, he tied up the game in a huge game against the A's and awesome closer Huston street. Had a huge 9th inning HR against FLA to win last year, Huge bases clearing double against LAA last year. A bunch of others.
  14. We've had this discussion before. And we disagree. Those numbers include when he starts. Since he has been with the team he has been more than adequate in PH dutites. He's won or tied numerous games the past couple of years in big pinch hitting situations.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Absolutely. You can't keep playing a below average player who's slumping. I said it yesterday when the game was called: the worst thing about the game was that Timo just earned himself a handful of starts with his two bloopers. Most bench players that go 5 for 36 get released, not promoted to the leadoff or number 5 spot. K. Just wanted to check.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:27 PM) He's been terrible as a pitch hitter this season. His numbers suck in the situations that Hawk and Ozzie think he's amazing at. Very rarely do PH numbers impress anybody. Many have said that it is incredibly difficult to pinch hit. Timo has a bunch of big hits, a couple game-winning. This is one situation where Hawk's "don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit it applies."
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) I can't wait until around 5pm tomorrow when we see Timo is playing again. So I just want to check with you real quick. You are endorsing that we play BA correct?
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Not a doubt in my mind we'll bring him back next season. He'll definately be back. Hopefully it won't be for a significant time as a starter. He's been solid enough as a pinch hitter though. He's no Lenny Harris, but he has some big hits.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) It just baffles me how anyone could defend Timo. He's a terrible, terrible player! 5 for his last 36 now....just the spark you want from a bench player. I don't think there is anyone defending Timo starting. At least not that I've seen.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) The guy is a walking out, and a theif. LOL. You probably just love that then.
  21. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) Timo is dangerous..... to our chances of winning. You really dislike Timo.
  22. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:17 PM) sarcasm So was mine?
  23. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:15 PM) Marte sucks Good call.
  24. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) I understand teams going through slumps hitting and pitching. But this team has failed to execute lately. It's part of a slump. No team can execute 100% all the time every year, or they'd have 130 wins.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) Where's all those people saying how great of a manager we have? Yah. No team ever has a stretch like this during the season, with injuries and slumps.
