  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 06:34 PM) Bring on Johan. I like our chances better against a great lefty than any average righty pitcher. I don't like our chances against either at this point.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) I was thinking the same exact thing. Don't worry, KW says we have the best record in baseball, so we don't need the upgrade. There aren't a whole lot of offensive options out there. There is a reason a lot of those people went unclaimed. It'd be nice to get Griffey, but he can't make the owner give him up.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) Good one ? I was just letting people who cant watch know that he got out. Just like 0-1 for Carl. What was ur post about? Certainly not good that tadahito got out.
  4. Freddy at night, at home is disaster. Lets hope game 3 is on the road and during the day. Good inning Freddy!
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) Well, this wasn't predictable. The nice thing about it is you know its going to happen, so you prepare for it, and if he does better ever, its a nice surprise.
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) Saying that is a helluva lot different tune then, "I threw it in your face" -- which is what you said earlier. OBP for bench players doesn't translate? Sure it does. If you know how to recognize pitches, it should show in your OBP. Oh I still threw those numbers right in your face. You gave me his bad splits in those situations this year, then said he sucked last year, I showed you he didn't.
  7. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) They paid him for clutch stats last year? All 68 ABs of his with RISP? It's a stupid reason to pay a guy because he's clutch. There has to be other reasons. 58 OPS+ doesn't equal seven figures. You can't look at OPS or OBP for a bench player. It just doens't translate. He gets 7 or 8 ABs a week last year, IF THAT. And last year, when the pressure was on with RISP or whatever, he came through. He has done that most of his career. That's what they paid him for. They paid him for those three year splits. 68 ABs with RISP are a HELL of a lot for a bench player. But oh well. It doesn't matter. You don't like Timo, I don't think he's as bad as this board says off the bench. What can you do.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) While you were busy fellating Timo, we were discussing our managers in August the last few years. Oh. sorry. DIdn't realize managers got dumber when the calendar turned. Do they have a chip in their head?
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Then why's he making a million bucks THIS year? Why's he still on THIS team, THIS year? Because...uh, he got paid for what he did last year, in which he had terrific numbers. Were they supposed to look into the crystal ball or something to see that he would be worse in those situations than his career would indicate?
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Don't forget our managers get severely out-managed by the opposition. If thats true we must have an unbelievalbe amount of talent to have the best record in baseball to win in spite of our manager.
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) BTW -- why haven't Timo's clutch stats translated over to this year? Because he's sure been extremely bad in those 'clutch' situations this year. Yep. He obviously hasn't been as good this year in those situations.
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) RISP ARE ONLY MARGINALLY MORE IMPORTANT THAT ANY OTHER AB Hmm. Well. I'll just have to say I disagree with that bigtime.
  13. Oh well. I think he's good enough off the bench. I think he stole something from you guys sometime.
  14. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Very scientific. COuldn't be all that great though.
  15. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) Because they account for 22% of his plate appearences.... If I sucked at my job only 78% of the time, I wouldn't expect to have a job. I dunno. What if you made more money for your company in those 22% of the time (RISP) than other people off that don't work everyday in your company.
  16. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Almost all PH are with RISP, that's why you use a pinch hitter. Very scientific.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) I don't think you read one word he typed. I think you just sort of quoted for effect. I'd be interested to see how he does in RISP in PH situations. if he had nobody on, then I already said he sucked at that.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) HE STARTED THE GAME! Exactly. So now you are saying that he should start with numbers like those with RISP? Should he hit 5th? what are you saying exactlY?
  19. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) Here's some simplified game theory for you.... There are 27 outs in a baseball game. Timo Makes lots of outs. He is the sux. The only time he doesn't make lots of outs is with runners in scoring position, which only account for less than 25% of his total plate appearences. ANY benefit gained by him being marginally above average in RISP situations is negated by him being below average in every other situation. The second most important situation (leading off and inning) Timo is so historically bad it's pitiful. You argue that he is a good pinch hitter, I showed you his woeful pinch hitting stats. He's not a good pinch hitter, which you argue is his role on the team. In order for TIMO to get RISP abs, without being in a pinch hit situation, he would have to start the game. -- Any time TIMO starts a game he is hurting the team. He is Bad. But he speaks Japanese, so he can read this. Timo のあなたは吸う! What are his PH stats with RISP?
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) HE SUCKS AT PINCH HITTING, TOO!!!!!! So where exactly did those 277 ABs come from? HMmmmm?
  21. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) Wow, I'm glad you're not a GM. In his career as a PH, he's put up a .211/.245/.295 line. Definitely the player I want coming up as a PH. And yet we just saw his three year splits in important situations. WHat are his PH numbers with RISP? Most of those probably game in meaningless games with nobody on and a ocuple out, down 4 in the top of the ninth inning.
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) I sure would have liked for him to get a base hit ANY of the times he was up tonight. We would have scored another run in at least two more innings if he had gotten on before Carl Everett/Juan Uribe. But he didn't. And, since there was no RISP, it didn't matter -- to you. He could've been the one scoring, but no, 'cause he didn't get on base in the first place. Hard to get on-base when your OBP over the past two seasons is slipping below .275... And you just stated the argument for why he shouldn't be an everyday player, but you've made no decent arguments about him as a first player off the bench to play once a week and pinch hit. HE hits in big situations. That's somebody I want off the bench. Not a good OBP guy.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) So basically, he's only useful if other players get on in front of him? Thank god that we have him batting leadoff then But thats exactly my point. As I have stated numerous times he is useless as a leadoff hitter and regular player, but he is just fine as a first player off the bench.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 09:05 PM) THEY ARE SO MARGINALLY MORE IMPORTANT THAN OTHER SITUATIONS THAT THE NET GAIN IS STILL NEGATIVE WHEN YOU FACTOR IN HIS OTHER PATHETIC PLATE APPEARENCES! That's fine. If you think it is more important to get a 2 hits with nobody on instead of 1 big hit with bases loaded as a player off the bench then I'm not sure what to tell you. We have much different ideas about stats and baseball.
