  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) DetroitWhat, what were the overall expectations of the Tigers from the Tiger fan base, generally? And, how did Tiger fans view the Maggs signing? I like Bonderman, but a lot of us Sox fans never really bought the Tigers being contenders. And, while 16 games or so certainly isn't enough to make a real good judgement from, I can't see the Tigers competing throughout the year just because of a lack of pitching. Bonderman seems like he might turn into a real good pitcher in the next few years, but other than him, I don't see anyone that stands out. And, as far as the Maggs signing -- the Tigers only out was if Maggs hurt his knee. So, he could injure himself anywhere else, and the contract would still be in play. On top of all that, even when Maggs was healthy, I never really saw him as a 5/$75 type of guy. I hope I don't come off as a guy who's just piling on, because you could certainly do the same to me (us) in a basketball or hockey conversation (for that matter, baseball too -- who am I kidding, were the ones who haven't won a title in 80+ years) -- but, do you have any thoughts? The overall expectations were around .500 probably. There were plenty of fans that thought this team could contend, based on the fact that they weren't considering health and age issues. On paper this Tigers team is good...Urbina, Percival, and Farnsworth all have pretty good track records (well...I don't know about Farns), and we were expecting the bullpen to be pretty solid. That hasn't worked out so far. Everyone knew the lineup was going to be solid, as it has been, even without a healthy Maggs. Overall, there were too many question marks with this club and many of the Tigers fans saw it, thus realizing that somewhere around 81 wins was the best case scenario. Thus far the bullpen has struggled. Maggs in unhealthy. We haven't been able to score runs late in games. While it is early I see a lot of these factors being recurring problems with this club. I was skeptical about the Maggs signing and thought we overpaid. The only thing was that this offseason it seemed like every ballclub was overpaying. With that in mind I knew that if he produced like he was capable of this Tigers team may be able to contend, but in the back of my mind I felt like this thing was going to be a disaster. Well, look what happened. It has turned out for the worst. Again, the Tigers have too many question marks coming off of last season. Guys like Robertson and Maroth performed well, and that just hasn't been the same last year. Urbina came to play last year, and that hasn't happened this season. It seems like this pitching staff has taken a step back this year, and I think it is mostly growing pains.
  2. Well, that was a crappy series for the Tigers... Here's how I see the AL Central right now: Twins Sox Tigers Indians Royals I applaud the Sox and Kenny Williams for putting together a pretty good squad for this year. They seem more complete this season than they have in the past. Podsednik really killed us these last two games.
  3. There's this 2 game series about to take place between these two certain teams. I was just wondering what you guys thought about it, any predictions?
  4. I was a little suprised by the comments by Dmitri. Of course, I don't agree with what he said. There is no way this is a race between the Indians and the Tigers. The Twins are the most complete team in the Central and one of the best teams in the league. Sox are close behind. I see the Tigers and Indians competing for third place, but not first. No way. I do like Dmitri's effort in trying to be a vocal leader and rallying the team, but I hope that in the future he thinks a little bit more about what he says.
  5. Well, you beat our butts in terms of the win column. How many years have the Sox finished in front of Detroit now?
  6. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) That tigertalk layout looks nice. Usually the ninja icon has a hidden meaning with it... I guess that's a compliment? If it is, thanks. The webmaster, James, has worked really hard to make it look as good as possible.
  7. Hey, nice to be here...I'll try to swing by whenever I can and chew the fat...anyways, thanks for the love. I respect the Sox too, seeing that they beat our butts every year.
  8. You guys are way off...the ugliest player, easily, in the MLB is "Nasty" Nate Cornejo, aka Shrek.
  9. QUOTE(southsider17 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) Do you buy the Magglio hernia story? I have a feeling he'll be getting alot of "non-knee" injuries throughout the year. :puke It's a little suspicious, yes. I hope to god there will not be non-knee related injuries, damnit. If this keeps happening I say we just club his knee and get it over with...
  10. Oh, and I post on those Marlins boards...don't even start worrying about what they think, they're all about 13 years old over there, or so it seems. The ones commenting that is.
  11. Hey guys, I'll be visiting here as often as I can for some friendly talk between division rivals...You really won't have to worry about me, I'm very civil, it's tough not to be when you're team hasn't had a winning season in what, 12 years now?
  12. QUOTE(Jake @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) From the Tigers board about teams that they hate: Haha, that was me...sorry guys Division rivals, what do ya expect? Great site BTW...
