  1. Get a hold of the Official Rules and it is stated in Rule 1.10 (a)..."The bat shall be on piece of solid wood." Furthermore it says in a note that this includes championship season or exhibition games. I take it MLB includes BP under the exhibition game status. Yes, I know I am new to actually posting here and lot of you probably think I am nothing but a busy body know it all but I know my rules....oh and I happen to have a copy of official rules right here so I looked it up.

    Options

Yes, a player has three option years but once a player has accrued 3 years of major league service time, there are no options without passing a player through waivers and the player can request free agency ala Josh Paul. Player can also accept the assignment back to the minors if he so wishes. Not quite sure whether the team can pull the player back but I do not think they can which is the risk a team takes in optioning a player back to the minors.
  3. Exactly, a player on the DL prior to the deadline can be playoff eligible if needed. Any player called up tomorrow would not be able to be placed on a team's postseason roster which much be turned in by midnight ET on August 31 (about five minutes). Players on the DL can also be put on this list as they technically are not part of the 25 man roster. Any other minor league callups will be announced on Monday. But if I am correct Charlotte and Birmingham are in postseason contention so they would not be pulling players from those rosters until postseason play is complete.
  4. Sure they have something to play for.....they are playing to NOT be worse than the '62 Mets and have the honor of being the team which had the worst season in baseball EVER!!!!
  5. The player must be property of the organization prior to midnight ET on August 31. The Labor Day holiday does not matter. This is no different than in the past. The only example I can think of off the top of my head is that the Cubs traded Bill Mueller to the Giants last season after the August 31 trading deadline and therefore was not eligible for postseason with the Giants. So few players are traded after that date that are name players that I could not think of anyone else....sorry. Oh and the playoff rosters do indeed need to be set by midnight ET on August 31. Baseball doesn't take Labor Day off.
