  1. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 01:57 AM) How is that a foul? Should have been a jump. f***ing brutal. It was a foul. Grabbed his forearm first, before sliding down to the ball. It was hard to see with the angle they were showing, but when they went back to the 2nd angle you could see it. I thought I saw it the first time and that confirmed it. The forearm just happened to be right in front of Sanzere (sp?).
  2. QUOTE(HoosierSox @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 01:56 PM) How about bringing Mike Montgomery and Keith Smart to IU. With Smart being the eventual replacement for Montgomery. A darkhorse guy that intrigues me is Darrin Horn from Western Kentucky. He has recruited Indiana and is young and has done a pretty good job rebuilding Western Kentucky. Hell, if you they are going to think about Darrin Horn, just give me Brad Brownell.
  3. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 02:15 AM) Rex, who's your top candidate for the job? Just wondering. Honestly, I don't have one. Until I can see who may be realistic candidates and who are not, it is hard to say. I don't really feel there is an obvious direction to go this time around. I don't think keeping it in the family is necessary. I'm willing to sit back and wait and see what develops before jumping on someone's bandwagon.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 20, 2006 -> 06:57 AM) The sad thing with Jimbo is he's a very smart fan outside of his unprecedented Kansas homerism. We should just ban him from talking about KU, and he'd be a very solid contributor. Just curious what would make you....... Ah, forget it.
  5. Here is Terry Hutchens' blog today, discussing the possibility of players leaving IU on an individual basis. Hutchens is the IU beat writer for the Indianapolis Star. Will they stay or will they go?
  6. I know every man is different, but the record of the other former Duke Assistant Coaches does make me a little leery of Dawkins. He is one of the guys I first thought about, but everyone thought the others were going to be stars as well.
  7. Redick just nailed a three to pass Johnny Dawkins as Duke's all-time leading scorer.
  8. I know most of you guys on here hate Duke, but I really enjoy watching Redick play. He is much more than a jumpshooter as he was earlier in his career. The guy flat out knows how to score. He and Adam Morrison are fun to watch.
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) LOL. It's kinda funny now. The Hoosiers have quit. It's kinda sad. I didn't see any quit in IU today. I saw them get beat by a better team. I saw them shoot horribly. I saw them take suspect shots, I believe out of frustration due to good defense by Illinois. I saw them experience their patented droughts and look like crap in the process. But I never saw them quit. As an IU fan, I think today was somewhat indicitave of how they have played for Mike Davis over the past few years. At times good, other times looking confused. I am at least happy they didn't lay down and lose by 30 because that could have happened easily.
  10. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) If you guys win this it will be a sad, sad day for our program. I mean really, there's NO reason we shouldn't come out and stomp you guys. You just had this whole Mike Davis thing, don't have a ton to play for (as far as winning the conference), and we have been struggling as of late - at home no less - and should want to make a statement. If we don't look very impressive and win by at least 10 then i'll be disappointed. I'll be interested to see how IU plays though. I would expect a sort of roll-over, but you just never know. I guess the line is 11 pts at this point and i wouldn't touch it if i were betting. The key is, you just never know how 19-20 year olds will react. Obviously their emotions are running high, thinking their coach got a raw deal. You never know whether they will come out and roll over at the first Illini run or if they will come out hot, stick around for awhile, gain some confidence and forget all about everything and just play. I'm not expecting a win by any means, but it would be nice to stay competitive. Krush, I doubt you are old enough to remember the day when Knight got pissed at his upperclassmen and decided to send 5 freshmen on the floor to get slaughtered against Illinios. IU had no chance that day. Unfortunately, I have the same kind of feeling today.
  11. Here is another good article about the IU situation. He makes some very good points about how the current situation has come to be. Scrutiny inevitable, deserved as IU players don't buy into system Use test as both the username and password to login. It should work.
  12. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Was it Seth Davis who said IU is a nogo for the tourney. What does he know anyway?? IU IS a no go for the Tourney if they keep playing as they have been. That's not going out on too big of a limb. But Penn State is winnable, as is Purdue. If they can find a way to beat Michigan State at home or Michigan on the road and win two games in the Big Ten Tournament, then they're in, period. It's a tall order based on the recent turn of events and how they are playing, but the talent is there to do that much, if they would relax and pull their heads out of their collective asses.
  13. I just hope that when it comes down to it, they can come up with a fairly narrow list and evaluate all of them without everything being played out in the media. The biggest problem with high profile openings is anytime there is any ramblings that a coach is being seriously considered, the media runs to him and asks him a million questions, forcing him into a corner. Often times coaches are forced to declare they aren't interested when in fact they haven't even had discussions with said school to that point. I hate it when a coach "withdraws" his name from consideration publicly before anything has even been offered to him. That crap all happens because the media wants to publicize every step of the process. It puts coaches who may not be chosen or who a simple conversation may be had in a bad position with their current schools. I don't see any way of avoiding it, but that is my hope anyway.
  14. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) Not sure how this is a make or break, being that nobody wins on the road in this conference. I don't think anyone would expect us to win this, and I don't. However, we could definitely look better than we have recently, now that we have closure to Davis' situation. We'll see. I won't be around here for the game; IU's allowing us to watch the game in our AH on the new scoreboard. And I don't think many will be there, with where our season is now. I don't have a problem with that though, it'll be nice. I'll agree with Jimbo that this is make or break but only in the sense of how they play, not whether they win. If they come out, play reasonably well, put forth a good effort and are competitive, there will be hope for the remaining games. If they come out and lay an egg and lose by 37 points, then there is no hope. So I don't believe it is a must win game, but I do think how they react and play on the court is very important if there is any hope of finding a way into the NCAA Tournament.
  15. I'm certainly not holding my breath, but it would be nice if they just relaxed and played loose and actually put up a fight.
  16. I have seen a million names tossed around as possibilities (even slight ones) for the IU job and some were interesting. Some names thrown around that I haven't seen on here are Memphis' John Calipari, Florida's Billy Donovan and Pitt's Jamie Dixon. I have no idea if any are real possibilities or even a good fit. But one name that might be, should they not go with a "name" is Dana Altman from Creighton. I'll be curious to see how the process goes, but at this point, there seems to be no end to the speculation. Now I just hope they don't go out and lay down @ Illinois tomorrow.
  17. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 01:27 AM) Big words for somebody who is nothing more than a bitter and pissed off IU fan. But hey, if you want Alford, go ahead and take him. Your going to be pissed a lot though if that is the case. I never said Alford was the right hire. I am just confident you know less than half of what you think you do. Your posts have created a nice, consistent pattern of someone who thinks they know it all, but just doesn't.
  18. The MVC has not helped themselves as a whole today. SIU's loss at home really hurts them. Wichita State losing at home hurts the conference's overall profile, which could hurt the last team or two fighting for an at-large bid. Creighton really needs to take care of business tonight.
  19. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Jas, I think you are underestimating how good of a job IU is. It's not like you are rebuilding a baseball team here. You can have that program back up and running in two years with a good recruiting class. If White and Vaden stay (which I see happening), it's not a huge overhaul. Plus you'd have Wilmont and Ratliff to boot and a few recruits. That's a damn good nucleus. With a good coach they'd be ultra competitive next season. I mean if DJ says he is leaving and actually does, his stock will just flat out plummet. All he needs is a solid year and he is a first round pick. Once he gets off the emotion roller coaster of this ordeal, I think he reconsiders and returns. As far as Vaden goes, he could go either way I think. These guys are just speaking out of emotion. I think if MD doesn't get a job next year and these guys ask for advice on what to do, then MD is going to tell them to stay at IU. I think he genuinely does want IU to do well. Very well put. I agree 100%.
  20. Prediction: The Missouri Valley will go 8-2 today and that WILL include a win by Evansville over Tennessee-Martin!
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) I think Vaden, being a local kid, will stay. However the ONLY reason White came to Indiana was Davis, so I think he will leave. I'd almost bet the opposite will happen. If Davis does not get another head coaching job at a good D-I school (which I do not believe he will) then DJ White would be facing the decision to sit out a 2nd consecutive season before playing. Once the reality is faced and emotion wears off, I don't think that would be in his best interests. White said Davis was teh reason he came to IU but he did not say that he was definitely leaving. He implied that may be the case, but he left it at that. Vaden on the other had, said he already knows what he is doing and has a plan and that it definitely did not include staying at IU. While that could change, he certainly spoke with a different tone than White.
  22. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 06:10 AM) Indiana is in trouble if the rest of the fanbase agrees with you. Right, because you are so much smarter than college coaches, administrators and fans of IU's program. One of these days something smart will come out of your keyboard. The question is, after all the drivel you put out now, will anyone pay attention and notice?
  23. I originally wasn't in favor of going after Alford and I am not sure that has changed. But I am starting to warm up to the idea. Even though I am not convinced he is the right guy for the job, allow me to play devil's advocate and go "pro-Alford" for a moment. 1. I do think Alford's connections would help him at IU and give him an advantage he did not have at Iowa. 2. Alford's record at Iowa has been criticized. While the record cannot be argued, I am a firm believer that all of us get better with experience in whatever we do. Some coaches are good from the start. Some just aren't meant to be head coaches. Others, most I would argue, learn and develop as they gain experience. Going through tough times and criticism at Iowa should make him better. 3. I believe the Pierre Pierce situation and the disappointment of the performance of the team with Recker will help him. As much as I would rather never discuss Bob Knight again, I think going to Knight after that disappointing season helped him understand how to handle difficult teams/players. Having to deal with Pierre Pierce should have taught him a lot in terms of what kinds of players to go after and how to handle problems in the program. Hopefully, in the future, he will have enough confidence to deal with a problem, regardless of how talented the player is. 4. Alford's father, a popular former HS coach in Indiana, can't do anything but help him develop the relationships necessary with the state's HS coaches. Again, I am not sure that he is the right guy for the job, but if the IU Administration does their due dilligence, and they decide he is indeed, then I will support him from Day 1. My biggest problem with the original hiring of Davis was they never really searched for the right fit. The caved to the demands of the current players at the time.
  24. Oh and to make the obvious statement of the year.......... Jim Crews is not a candidate for the IU job. No way in hell that is even possible.
  25. White and Vaden are very emotional right now. While they may leave, I am willing to bet it isn't as cut and dried once the dust settles. I don't believe Mike Davis will be a Division I Head Coach next year so they won't follow him. I think the reality of having to sit out a 2nd consecutive season may just make him realize that leaving isn't the best move for him. Once a new coach is hired, I'd guess discussions will be had and DJ will at least consider staying here. Right now the players are hurt. Their coach is gone. Emotion rules and logic is thrown out the window at this point. Time heals.......
