I also left out Simon & Garfunkel because I am not sure they fit this genre. Some of these songs may have already been mentioned, but I couldn't remember for sure. These are just a few great songs/personal favorites from that era. Some may debate the validity of a song belonging in that era or some may feel a certain artist had a better song.
  2. What two players did Wisconsin lose? Were they both academic casualties?
  3. IU isn't going down without a shot. I don't think they will have enough to get all the way back, but at least it hasn't turned into a 30-point blowout, which it looked like it might.
  4. I know I am biased so I will ask others..... Am I nuts or is UConn just that damned good? They are making fall away shots, making shots when they aren't squared to the basket AND a guys hand in their face. IU has weaknesses inside, there is no doubt about that. But I think UConn is just playing THAT GOOD in the 2nd half as opposed to IU being bad.
  5. Louisville hits a three at the buzzer to force overtime against Notre Dame. SIU and Wichita State headed to OT as well.
  6. Don't think the three at the end will count....... that would have really hurt!
  7. Killingsworth sitting is really hurting. I agree with the announcers that without him, IU needs to slow down offensively. UConn does make some damned tough shots though. I don't think the defense has dropped too much for IU during this UConn run, I just think they are shooting too quick on offense and UConn makes difficult shots.
  8. IU and UConn under way at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. IU is going to have to win this with defense if they have any chance at all.
  9. I think the two keys for today's game are: 1. IU's defensive intensity. They have to come out and get after it, making UConn work for everything they get. Avoiding foul trouble while doing so would be nice. 2. Staying hydrated on offense. Okay, I am pulling a Clark Kellog here.... What I mean is they cannot have offensive droughts where they don't score for 4 or 5 minutes. Getting off to a good start and staying consistent on offense will be a big key.
  10. QUOTE(Spiff @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 10:45 PM) i'm not saying the judge didn't have legal precedent, i just think it's stupid that he did and the law itself is stupid. The good thing for the rest of society, is that people don't get the choice of which laws to agree with or which to obey. Not if you get caught anyway.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) I had my first beer when I was in Amsterdam before i was a freshman. I drank at parties throughout high school, including dances, prom, special occasions. I had a great time with great friends, I would do it again in a heartbeat. I also graduated near the top of my class, played 3 sports and was a member of many clubs and an assistant in the dean's office. I went to a great college, drank with my fraternity brothers, friends, and sometimes professors. I didnt turn 21 until I was a senior, and I definatley didnt drink just because it was against the law. I had a really great time drinking socially and bonding with my friends. I would love to go back and experience college again, as it is truly the best time of your life. I now have a great job, am a homeowner, car owner, and a reputable member of society. I feel like my in my path I have chosen to be myself and make the most of everything i have done. There are two sides to every coin. Rock, I did all of the same and maybe more. I don't think anyone is trying to say that if you drink underage, you can't later become a valuable member of society. The key is, if you want to participate, you have to be willing to pay the price. Underage drinking is illegal, plain and simple. I did it, I'd do it again. My parents allowed it but encouraged responsibility. If I got busted, I was on my own. The key to growing up to being a reputable member of society is learning to take individual responsibility for one's actions and understanding the consequences. If you get caught you have to take it. The key is, laws can't be made to only penalize that break them irresponsibly. Break them, deal with it. I can't fault the judge at all in this deal. The girls made bad choices. The big thing to me in this case is the actions toward the judge in the first place. If I got busted, I don't think it would have stopped me. But I wouldn't have been celebrating my victory over the legal system next time I did so. It would have never entered my mind to be pissed at the judge after their first appearance. It all goes back to the girls blaming someone else, rather than taking responsibility for their own actions. The judge had to do something. It had to be stern because they had to be taught a lesson. The lesson was more about respect and the responsibility for their actions more than the drinking itself.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2006 -> 03:57 AM) He paused after he said it as he gave the Democratic side of the aisle a really nasty glance, then he studdered a couple of times when he was trying to get back into the rhythm of the speech. It really threw him off for a few seconds. Funny how two people can see/hear the same thing, yet see/hear it so differently.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 05:32 AM) Some things of note based on reading the speech: Ok, so the President wants to protect us from animal/human hybrids? Something tells me we shouldnt' be letting this man watch Spiderman movies. Whoever wrote this line is going to be fired: (Insert loud applause by Democrats) Actually I think it was planned. If you noticed he paused after he said it. Then he came right back with his comments about a bipartisan committee and working together. In my mind, it made the dems look pretty stupid. They cheer his failure and 5 seconds later he is calling for everyone to work together to solve the problem. The way it was played made him look much less political and the dems who cheered completely political. I believe that turns most Americans off.
  14. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) If he does, Penn State absolutely raked em in this year. Ive heard a lot of things about him switching sides. I'd like him to go to Penn State b/c I hate USC, but his Dad needs to butt the f*** out. Exactly, who the hell does a kid's dad think he is being involved in his son's decisions. Geez, why can't parents just learn to stay the f*** out of their kid's lives. Teenagers know everything already, why do they need their parents?
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) Penn State obviously would have loved to have Hazelton, but they still have a top 5 to 10 class nationally and #1 in the Big Ten. This class BLOWS AWAY the one last year that did a lot in helping them go 11-1, win the Big Ten, and win the Orange Bowl, which is a scary thought. Penn State loses a ton of vets going into next year, but they are reloading with what might be even more talented players. Not to hate on JoePa, but it's CLEAR he's just a figurehead now letting the assistants run the show, NO WAY IN HELL he could put together a class like this. That's the point. PSU started heading back in the right direction when JoePa realized he NEEDED to let his assistants do their jobs and NOT try to run everything. The statement you made actually shows that the old guy can still coach a big time program and is able to adapt to do so. I'm sure some PSU fans wished he wised up sooner, but the changes at Penn State are a good thing. How in the hell do you think Bobby Bowden keeps winning? Just because an old coach isn't as active on the sidelines, doesn't mean he isn't running his program. You don't see the CEO of McDonald's flipping burgers or hiring cashiers. Managers manage.
  16. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) 3rd Wave was terrible, but Boston and Dont Look Back were f***in awesome. I wish I was alive then.. Heard of Return to Zero? I believe it is an album done by the members of Boston minus Tom Scholz. It has a very Boston-like sound, but not of good as the original and Don't Look Back, of course. I liked Third Stage, but that came out while I was in college and I was seriously jonesing for some Boston at that point. Amazon.com - Return To Zero
  17. QUOTE(Texsox @ Feb 1, 2006 -> 04:02 AM) Part 2, we agree. Sadly, neither party agrees with us. Revenues are up, but so is debt. The best example is I give you a $1,000 raise and you spend $2000 on your Visa celebrating. What we have discovered is if the Government runs a trillion dollar deficit, half a trillion increases in revenue. That still isn't good long term for our government. We make fun of the French, complain they wouldn't back us in Iraq, then borrow billions from them. Same with China and half the s*** holes around the globe. Guess who is financing our debt? It isn't just US citizens and companies buying Savings bonds. It is so surreal that Republicans no longer care about balanced budgets. Borrowing trillions doesn't faze them. The Dems have never been all that great in that area. That is my #1 fear, no one in Washington cares how far in debt the US goes and they ave convinced the public it doesn't matter. I hate getting into political discussions but I am going to jump in and ask for opinions. Let me preface this by saying I have a basic understanding of economics and government, but I am not one to debate its finer points. So I will up front say, please do not try to call me out, rather help educate me. My question to you Tex is this... Why does it matter? The federal government is not like an individual's household budget. Why should I or anyone else care if the government is billions in "debt"? Does that debet actually ever get paid off? If the budget is balanced, does it really have any effect on my life or yours? Do you really think a government like ours carrying a large debt will actually cause its economy to fail? We have thrived in times with huge debts. I had an economics professor in college that stated matter of factly that the National Debt didn't mean a hill of beans. I can't argue that he is correct, but I can ask the questions. I'd be interested in yours and others thoughts. Gracias amigo!
  18. I knew this two game swing was going to be tough for IU. I am just disappointed that they could not find a way to split the two games. It doesn't get any easier with UConn coming into town next Saturday.
  19. Get this...... Arkansas @ Kentucky is the CBS game scheduled for here rather than the IU game. But the game is being pre-empted by a 700 Club Special. The basketball game will be aired at 2:35AM Monday morning!! I've never seen anything like this! I'm not anti-God, but what the hell? Living in the Bible Belt sucks!
  20. I guess I will see the results in the boxscore but I am not sure Strickland at the point will help much. Having him in the lineup at SG seems the most important to me.
  21. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 29, 2006 -> 03:23 AM) IU has a chance to even up with the 5-2's with a match-up in Minnesota at 1 tomorrow. Why am I so nervous about a game against an 0-6 team? Because IU has really struggled to win at Minnesota in recent history.
  22. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 08:07 PM) I wasn't expecting him to come back, but now it's official. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2309721 Losing DJ really hurt. I really feel that this team with him was a legit Sweet 16 team with a chance to make a run at the Final Four. Without him, my best guess is they are legit to make a run at the Sweet 16, but that is probably the end of the line. Matchups of course could change that slightly.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 28, 2006 -> 05:23 PM) Exhibit #41899083432 why the NCAA is a joke: http://www.kentucky.com/mld/kentucky/sport...ll/13723546.htm The stuff schools like tOSU, Michigan, Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, etc get away with is obnoxious. I don't see anything in that article that would be defined as "getting away with".
  24. I think it is naive to take Frank's comments at 100% face value and consider them absolute truth. Frank has a history of not returning Kenny's calls in the offseason, let's not forget that. Kenny may have called Frank 3 or 4 times for all we know and been forced to leave word on a voicemail if Frank wasn't calling him back. It may not have happened that way, but it very easily could have. So I won't go making assumptions either way. It sounds to me as if Frank wanted a great big sendoff or at the very least personal attention from Jerry and Kenny. Did he not get admiration and thanks at the end of the season? Frank was very much included in all the World Series hoopla and thanked for his service and for being a part of the club. I believe that the Sox did that as part of a team celebration he didn't feel it was enough. As others have said, Frank has always been an individual who needed his ego stroked. I just think he didn't get enough stroking on the way out the door. It didn't take a rocket scientist to see from far away that Frank returning in 2006 was not very likely. Maybe he thinks he can continue to produce as well or better than Thome, and he should. But the Sox,, at the point of the deadline to offer arbitration, were not willing to take that gamble. I can't blame them.
  25. I am going to take a different side here and defend juggs...... SORT OF When I was in college, I had an economics class with three basketball players that were friends. The basketball players had an academic advisor. The advisor would give the players the test questions from the text book. It was pretty simple. The book provided the professor with 100 questions from each chapter, of which he chose 20. Each test was 4 chapters, therefore 80 questions chosen from a total of 400. The players each had to answer all 400 questions, turn them in to their advisor who would check them and give them back to them to correct the wrong answers. So basically, once it came test time, they had seen every single question that was on the test. Well the players weren't dumb so they would have each one do one chapter of 100 questions (I became the 4th) to shorten the load and then they would combine their answers to turn them in to the advisor. As you might imagine, our test scores were quite high. The strange end result was that the tests were easy, but I actually learned the material, enough that I easily handled future economics classes. In the short term, taking this step (which seems very similar to what Juggs is doing) really helped me learn and retain the material. I can see where Juggs is coming from because he is trying to help his daughter short term. He thinks this will either provide a solution or create the need for real resolution (special ed) in the near future. But here is my problem... Taking such short cuts don't help a person in the long run. It may help her pass. It may even teach her the material. Unfortunately, you are failing to teach her individual responsibility. Failing to teach her that rewards come from hard work, not from getting someone else to do it for you. While doing this probably won't cause your daughter to end up in jail (unless she's headed there anyway), it still short-changes her from learning a value that is very important later in life. Other issues I think are happening here: -- Juggs said he is taking the "least path of resistance". It seems that path is the one that avoids hearing his wife complain... That avoids embarassment in social situations... That avoids internal family squables due to the kid's greater interest in a social life. -- My best guess is that a lack of interest is more of the problem than a learning disability. I am not there, so I cannot say for sure, but I'm thinking the social aspect of her life is limiting her desire to do the work (especially if dad will do it for her). I can honestly say that there were lessons I have learned as an adult that I should have learned earlier in life, had I not taken short cuts (such as, but not limited to the above example). Not telling you what to do, Juggs just sharing thoughts....
