  1. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 08:38 PM) Actually, he is a POY candidate because he broke a 3 pt record and he plays at Duke. But, your wrong...he cannot create his own shots, I wont say he's a horrible ball handler but he is no better than average, and hes not a good passer. He is about the definition of a one trick pony. Sorry but that is just full of s***. Let's just look at some numbers to help your cause........ -- Through his first three years, JJ scored 78% of his points on three-pointers or free throws. He was consistent at 78%, 76% and 78%. This season, going into today's game he was at 64%. I'd say that is marked improvement at finding other ways to score. -- He's made 32 more two point FG's than 3's this year. He shoots those two-pointers at a 55.8% clip. Don't try and tell me these are all easy breakaway layups either. -- He plays 37+ minutes/game and takes 18 shots/game. He turns the ball over 2.4 times/game, which in my mind is not too damned bad for a guy who has the ball in his hand as much as he does. He averages 2.6 assists/game. While that is not a great TO/assist ratio, he is not a point guard. For a scorer that does what he does, I would consider that serviceable for sure. -- His overall shooting % went from 40% last year to 48% this year. He's making the same number of 3's this year as last, yet his scoring has gone up 6+ points/game. I'd say he is finding more ways to score, including creating his own shot. Oh wait, these numbers DON'T help your argument. Let's talk again when you can share some actually knowledge.
  2. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 07:44 PM) I agree with them when they say JJ is a good shooter...great from the free throw line, and pretty good from 3. Not as good as ESPN makes him out to be, no where near the greatest 3 shooter in history...NCAA or ACC. When you add in the rest of his game...poor in pretty much every area...not a good pass, not a good ball handler, cant create his own shots...I see a good yet extremely overhype college player with little to no pro career. Bulls***! Like him or not, Redick has done an excellent job of improving his game in all areas. I have seen him create his own shot and score in many ways besides 3-pointers and free throws this year. Redick is by no means simply a standup shooter. No, Redick isn't the best player ever. No, he isn't the best shooter ever. But the guy can flat out play and he is huge in the clutch. Any guy that is as active offensively as he is, will have plenty of failures to go with many successes. If you want to hate him, fine. But give him his fair due. He's not a POY candidate for NOTHING.
  3. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 01:21 AM) Just hurts to lose like that. It shoots down some of that momentum we've been riding the past couple weeks. I feel we can possibly have moved ourselves into a 7 seed. We'll see; I'd just love to get out of that 8-9 matchup Bracketology has us in at the moment. However, none of that may matter without Vaden. Has anyone heard anything on his status? EDIT: Today's Bracketology did move us up to a 7 seed. The story on ESPN.com reported Mike Davis said Vaden would be ready to play next week, wherever they will be.
  4. You can call it what you want. He aimed it rather than shot it. Tried to be too perfect. That's caused by tightening up. It's not a lot of difference from throwing a baseball or a dart. Try to guide it to it's target and it will usually miss. Relax and let it fly using your normal motion/mechanics and your chances are much better. Wilmont played great. He just missed the last shot. C'est la Vie!
  5. damn........ Wilmont had some alligator arms on that last shot. He aimed it. Using the glass might have been a good idea. Great game though. IU hung in there and never gave up. Time to look forward to next weekend to see what happens next.
  6. I'd rather them just play and get a good shot here rather than milking it for a final shot to go for the win.
  7. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) IU has played some good D, but I agree OSU hasn't shot well at all. OSU is in danger of losing this game solely because they failed to put IU away. They had their chances for sure.
  8. Hoosiers aren't giving up. Should be an interesting final 4 minutes. Let's Go Hoosiers!!!!!!
  9. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) Two words: Randy Wittman Like I have said before, if after doing the necessary homework on a multitude of candidates, he is the best choice, then bring him on!
  10. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) If Iowa somehow wins this tournament in Indianapolis, won't it be a given that Steve Alford will be coaching the Hoosiers next season? I hope not, but there may be some validity there. At least the pressure to hire Alford will be turned up a lot. That's for sure.
  11. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) I didn't say a valley team would make the final four, I just said it's about time we got a team there. My point is, stick with shooting for the Sweet Sixteen. As good of a basketball league the Valley has become it still has its limitations.
  12. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 09:48 PM) OSU needs to go inside a lot more. I dont understand why they are not going inside and taking advantage of Killingsworth not being in the game. f***ING AIRBALLS...I have seen enough. IU has pushed the pace. Players make different decisions when hurried. You see it all the time watching UAB play. They make teams do things they don't normally do. I think OSU is doing some of that today.
  13. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) If you dont think SIU or any Valley team can make it to the final four, well thats your perogative. But I see no reason why they cant. Most teams wont be used to the stifyling defense like the teams from the valley possess. Sure they will. Valley teams play hard, but a lot of teams play hard on defense. Look at the Big Ten tournament all weekend. The defensive intensity this weekend has been equal to that of the Valley teams and the Big Ten has more talented players to go with. It would take A LOT for one of the Valley teams to make the Final Four. Setting your sights on the Sweet Sixteen would be much more realistic.
  14. I like what I see so far. Not watching National Championship-calibur basketball, but we are seeing two teams going at it pretty hard on both ends. IU is being pretty agressive on offense even when Killingsworth is not in there. That has been a problem in the past.
  15. QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) I can hardly wait until tomorrow. See what seed we get, what bracket, because I have a feeling we are going to suprise some people and take a few hard fought wins. Its time the Valley represents someone in the final four Put down the bottle and step away! The bottle is not your friend.
  16. I said............ Let's Go Hoosiers!!!
  17. I don't see IU beating Ohio State either, but one can hope. IU will have a chance if they keep their intensity throughout the game and don't freaking go through a long scoring drought. We here we go anyway, let's see what happens. Greasy you ready? He Gawn? Who else am I forgetting? Who is with me??? Let's Go Hoosiers!
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) I've only watched the 2nd half, but all I've seen is tremendous defense. I won't say teams are tired, but MSU is not getting open shots. At the same time they are playing pretty good defense too. Right now it would be the lowest % MSU would have shot in the last 10 years. MSU is tired. They HAVE to be. IF they squeak this one out today, they'll lose tomorrow.
  19. QUOTE(Elcaballo45 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 04:02 AM) This has been the ugliest half of basketball I've seen in a while. Ha! You obviously didn't see the Indiana/Wisconsin game today.
  20. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 02:10 AM) I'd love for IU to get a shot at them and wipe out Alford. Although getting past Ohio St could be damn near impossible. Oh ye of little faith!
  21. Randy Wittman Won basketball letters in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983...co-captain in 1983...played on three Big Ten championship teams and started on the 1981 NCAA Championship Team...played on Indiana's 1979 NIT Championship Team...Indiana and Big Ten Most Valuable Player in 1983...first team All-Big Ten in 1981, 1982 and 1983...Academic All-American in 1982 and 1983...ranked eighth on career scoring list, second on career assist list and third on career steals list at graduation...played in the NBA with Atlanta, Sacramento and Indiana...assistant NBA coach with Indiana, Dallas and Minnesota.
  22. My take on Alford is this.... I don't think he should be handed the job. But if Greenspan's search truly includes options from every angle (inside the family, outside it, college, NBA, etc) and he decides after talking with several individuals that Alford is the right candidate, then I will be behind him 100%. I held the same position with Mike Davis when he got the job. If a search was done and Davis was deemed the best coach for the job at the time, I would have bought in. That didn't happen though. He got the job almost by default. I just don't want the same happening with Alford. Don't hand him the job because a part of the fan base wants him. Make sure he is the right job and many options are considered first.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) There is a reason it takes a prescription to acquire these drugs. They shouldn't be in the hands of children to be used for 'harmless pranks'. Punishment is defintely called for. I agree. Now if it were Spanish Fly, I'd by laughing my ass off. For the record, see potential side effects of Viagra. I would definitely say slipping into the drink of a 15-yr old is not on the same level as a prank. Stick to itching powder or putting a passed out guy's hand in warm water.
  24. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:08 AM) The CUSA games today were/are on CSTV, which why you aren't getting those. Actually, I just realized I am. CSTV is on the Sports Tier on our cable lineup and it is buried, along with ESPN Classic, in the high numbers around a bunch of channels I never watch. UAB up 4 with 13 minutes left in the game.
  25. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 11, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) FWIW: Heard today that Cuban has told IU administration that he will fund an $18 million dollar practice facility if Randy Wittman is the next head coach. With Isiah talking up Wittman, as well as the fact that Knight apparently wants Wittman as well over Alford, this could get interesting. I don't know much about Wittman, but my main questions are: - Can he coach? He's never been a head coach except maybe one year in the NBA. - Can he recruit? Although with an 18 million dollar facility and the IU name, I'm sure they could get a few assistants to get in there to help out Randy. Next few weeks should get interesting. Should get very interesting. I remember Wittman as a player and I know he is well respected in the NBA, but I have no clue how he would do in college. A lot may have to do with his personality. I mean really, who knew that Thad Matta would have been such a big-time recruiter unless they saw it in his personality and passion. I have always felt, even so when Davis was hired, that Wittman should have been given a look. It can't hurt to sit down and have serious conversations with him. He could be a Charlie Weis type, in the sense that his experience is at a higher level, yet it could carry over well to the college game. I like how Greenspan has gone about his business (quietly) so far, so I will keep an open mind now and after a coach is named.
