Oakland Regional
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 05:41 AM) Their low post game/rebounding is very solid. They've got Jermareo Davidson, who averages 14 and 9, and Richard Hendrix, who averages about 8 rpg. They're both good shotblockers as well. They'll definitely give you guys some problems down low. All true, but the real key to this team is PG Ronald Steele. As he goes, the team goes for the most part. Alabama was hurt early in the year when they lost their best big man Chuck Davis.

There are 12 episodes this year and another 8 next year. No way in hell Tony won't be back in full force soon.

IU Coaching News
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) That would be excellent news...and if nothing else, it's a nice little present to offer an incoming coach. He'd be absolutely insane if he leaves...but by threatening to leave, he probably at least will have a little bit of input into who the next coach will be, which is probably why he said so publically. DJ White will have zero input on who IU's next coach will be. Catering to the wishes of the players is what brought on this mess in the first place.

I would have seeded UNC higher than Illinois. I think their overall resumes are similar, but UNC is playing better basketball right now. Now I can't explain Tennessee, however. Hell, the biggest Tennessee homer I have ever heard on sports talk radio admitted that UT got lucky as hell. He agreed both UNC and Illinois should have been seeded above the Vols.

I'm willing to be educated here, but why is San Diego St. considered a good team? What have they done or who have they beaten? Hell, I can't even find good teams they lost to. --Best team they played was Cal and they lost by 18 -- Split with Air Force, the team nobody thinks should be there -- Their non-conference schedule consisted of: Alaska Fairbanks UIC (loss) Southern Miss (10-21) Albany (woo hoo a #16 seed, but a tourney team anyway) San Diego Point Loma?? California Washington State (last in the PAC 10) UCSB (15-14) Maryland - Baltimore Co Providence (loss - doesn't make Big East Tourney) Loyola Marymount (12-18) South Dakota State I'll try to keep an open mind, but what about that schedule or the conference they play in makes anyone think they should be able to stay on the floor with Indiana, provided IU doesn't sleep through the game??

I have an Illinois vs. North Carolina final game. Oh wait, that was last year.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 13, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) I'll also say I like Indiana to make the elite 8, only to lose to the Kansas/Memphis winner. But those are 2 young teams, Indiana could win this region and I would not be surprised. Dude there you go again! Stop that s***. Let's just focus on SD State and see what happens.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) Oh, you're wrong. That's fine as long as it is not San Diego State knocking them out!

I'm not sure which one this belongs in because it is general in nature, but Nance and Packer's stance with the Committee Chairman. Talking about 5 year trends is stupid. Comparing the ACC to the MVC is stupid when the seeds each team gets is vastly different. NO, the MVC is not as good as the ACC because they got the same number of bids. A mid-major conference like the MVC is not competing against the likes of Duke and UNC for a bid. They ARE competing with Florida State and Maryland and I think they measured up just fine. I do think the MVC and CAA were probably overrated this year. But I also think comparing how many wins each conference has during the tournament in the past few years is STUPID. My feeling is that while a Maryland or a Florida State MAY be better than George Mason or Bradley, who cares? They had their chances to be in the top part of their conference or win games in their conference tournament. The mix of the little guys with the big guys is what makes this tournament so damned great!! So I guess I will add a "just shut the f*** up Billy Packer and Jim Nance"!

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) Considering Gonzaga has barely beaten 3 teams who are not ranked in the top 100 RPI their last three games, I'm happy IU may get them second game. Seems very winnable. Gotta beat San Diego State first. I'm not happy in the sense that I have been spouting off that Gonzaga would make the Sweet 16. Now I have to hope that I was freakin wrong!

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:43 PM) I like the Air Force matchup, and Washington plays no defense and relies on all offense. So despite the screw job, I like the matchups in the first 2 rounds. But then UConn...and bye bye. It might play out that way, but that is the same kind of thought I had in 2002 with IU staring at Duke. I'm glad I was wrong.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:45 PM) Anyone know what time the ILL game might be on Saturday (assuming they beat Air Force)? Later than 5? Game times will be known either late tonight or tomorrow.

It's almost like they got Illinois and Tennessee flip-flopped

They wouldn't have the winner of the play-in game play against a #2 seed would they? If not, then Villanova will likely be playing in Dayton, which would kill Ohio State's chances of being near home.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:30 PM) The mvc got screwed by air force. UNI will be in, mo state and creighton out I think. I'm taking the 15-2 upset here without even thinking twice. Would not surprise me. Winthrop is a solid team who has played good teams this year.

This is pretty general in nature but did anyone notice the MVC has not gotten much love to this point? SIU an 11 seed? Bradley a 13? I can't see any way they will get 5 at this point. They better hope they get 4.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) SDSU will be a harder game then Gonzaga, no doubt in my mind. The zags are going to have to get by Xavier, who really is a solid team now that they got things back on track. C'mon now, SD State is NOT better than Gonzaga! Maybe that is not what you meant, but that is how I interpreted it.

Okay before any of you guys want to be a smartass and take my $20 bet on Ganzaga making the Sweet 16, just stop and forget it. If they both win, they will be paired with my Hoosiers, so I will be rooting for every one of you guys I called idiots before. ha ah

QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Mar 12, 2006 -> 10:55 PM) I am not biased against him, he is just not as good as everyone thinks. Or perhaps as the numbers suggest, your thoughts just aren't as accurate as you think they are. Maybe, just maybe, everyone else is right!
