  1. It's 1:33 am central and still going. Five still remaining. I'll say that much.
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 6, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) This should end the Hawkins era at Colorado. Kansas down 45-17 scores 35 straight points in 11 minutes to take a 52-45 lead. Colorado then comes back in the final minute to get into the KU redzone before getting stopped. What a crazy day in football. 130+ points in Michigan, Duke-Viginia had 103 points scored and this game almost hit triple digits. Let's not forget Navy dropping 76 points on a 5-3 East Carolina team on the road, A & M knocking off Oklahoma and Texas Tech beating Missouri. Bama goes down, Penn State scoring 35 straight after giving Northwestern a 21-0 lead to get Joe Pa #400. Great day of football.
  3. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) I want Cheong to win. He seems to be forcing people into mistakes. Lefrancois shoved his QJ into his KK's. Candio called all in with his pair of 55's against his AA's and of course runner runner sucked out or he wouldn't even be at the final table. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtvJ5MAnoe0 He's also donating some of his winnings to charity. Final Table resumes in 2 days. It's being streamed live without hole cards on ESPN3 this year starting saturday. Or you can wait and just watch the edited version on Tuesday night on ESPN. What I wish they would do is show a clock on the screen on tv. I'd like to know how many hours the actual poker is taking. I think I heard that a few years ago Chip Reese and Any Bloch played heads up like 5 hours in one finale? Is that true?
  4. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Who does everyone want to see win the November 9? Here's who I want to win, ranked 1-9 from who I most want to see win to who I least want to see win, and why... 1. Michael Mizrachi: I want him to win the most because I actually met him once. Back in December 2007 I played in the same poker tournament with Michael Mizrachi in Vegas, and when I got eliminated in 31st place, they combined the tables and Mizrachi was moved to my vacated seat. I decided to hang around and watch the rest of the tournament and spoke to him during a break, he was a very nice guy. 2. John Dolan: I like his composure and style when he plays poker. I think he would be a very good ambassador for poker, and I would be a bigger fan of him than I am of Cada and Eastgate, both of whom I am not a fan of. 3. Jonathan Duhamel: I like his ice-cold demeanor at the table, he DOES NOT flinch. That's a poker skill I always try to perfect, and Duhamel has it down pat. He's also my hero for eliminating Affleck. 4. Matthew Jarvis: I like his deliberate playing style as well, and I think he would also be a good ambassador for poker as a WSOP ME champion. 5. Filipo Candio: There's something I like about Candio, he just cracks me up. He's not obnoxious like Jamie Gold was, instead he's obnoxious in a "socially retarded" way. Which is kinda funny. Plus I think he's the most comical of all the players in the November 9 to watch. I'd be happy if Candio won. _________________________ 6. John Racener: I'm kind of so-so on Racener. I do like how he cashed in some WSOPC events and he has live experience. But he just makes it to #6 on my list. I would be happy if he wins, but be indifferent if he loses. _________________________ 7. Soi Nguyen: He's another Darvin Moon. I'm not really a fan of his, but at least he's not an online poker geek. 8. Jason Senti: He seems like a nice guy, but he's more of an online player rather than a live player. 9. Joseph Cheong: Cheong is an online player personified. I'm just not a fan of "online poker savants" because I'm an old-school live player. Other players I wish made the final table instead of Racener/Cheong/Senti/Nguyen: Adam Levy, Ronnie Bardah, Hasan Habib, David Baker. My list begins and ends with anyone not wearing a hoodie!
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 08:30 AM) Let me know what kind of infractions we had under Alford? People can talk about the Pierce incident and debate whether he deserved a second chance or not, but Iowa had zero recruiting violations that I am aware of. Just cause you don't like the guy or something doesn't in any sense shape or form make the program dirty. I agree Jason. I'd love to hear how Alford was dirty, examples included.
  6. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) Which is as good as nothing. no sanctions makes me happy. I never felt like there would be any sanctions, but I still can't for the life of me figure out how its a violation in the first place. It's not like Demi Moore handed the recruits $100 or a stack of autographed nude photos to sell.
  7. I think Iowa State is a good example of how "fit" for a coach matters. Gene Chizik really struggled there, yet is coaching like he belongs with the big boys in the SEC now at Auburn. Rhodes was Auburn's DC and did a pretty solid job and seems to be finding his way at ISU. Could one argue that Chizik would have made the same progress since many of the players at ISU were his recruits? Maybe. But I think it really boils down to "fit". I also think Chizik learned a lot at Iowa State about what not to do and took those lessons learned with him. In this case, swapping coaches looks to be a win for both schools.
  8. Iowa commits recruiting violations? ESPN Story I don't get this. USC can have Will Ferrell roam the sidelines, Texas the same with Matthew McConaughey and North Carolina recruits play in pick up games with former UNC players now in the NBA, but this is a violation? Somebody please clarify how this is a violation? It makes no sense to me.
  9. QUOTE (farmteam @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) Perea to IU. I love how the pieces are coming together. I just wish they would come together quicker!
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 29, 2010 -> 10:33 PM) Inside the Hall Gracias amigo!
  11. Hopefully IU is cementing the recruitment of Cody Zeller tonight. He would be a big get for Crean and could open even more doors for the Hoosiers. Question for some of you vets... What is site that former soxtalker Alex Bozich started? I can't remember it and I had to clear my hard drive and I lost the link in my favorites. An interesting note to no other than me, Evansville plays Butler, Indiana and hosts North Carolina in a two week span starting with a November 21 date in Bloomington. IU will be visiting Evansville next year to open up their new arena.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) Well you cant blame Boise for not going to the Big 12 or Pac 10, I cant imagine either of those conferences would want Boise. Also if you want me to consider your team legitimate, you gotta get rid of gimmick things like smurf turf. They shouldnt need a turf advantage to beat these teams. I agree on both points. Boise doesn't have better conference options because neither the Pac 10 nor the Big 12 are extending invitations. Unfortunately that is out of their control. And I can't watch a game on that stupid blue turf.
  13. Which conference would you think they shouldd have joined?
  14. Off the Boise topic... sorry I've been gone the past two + weeks. Had some computer issues. I think we left off with a discussion where I asked if Michigan would score more than 30 points on anyone the rest of the year, didn't I?
  15. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) According to Dan Dakich, he got it confirmed to him that Cody Zeller is going to be a Hoosier. We will see how this shakes out in the coming weeks or maybe even days. This would be very good news. I've held out hope that would be the case. I think if Zeller goes to IU, it will have a direct impact on some other recruits, especially for the 2012 and 2013 classes.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) As long as Boise not only plays in the WAC, but is tricky with their OOC schedule, then yes I will not give them credit. Boise loves to play their toughest game OOC as the opener (Oregon last year, Virginia Tech this year) and I'd bet that's no coincidence since the opener in college football is typically a weak game for teams since there is no preseason. Would Boise have beaten Oregon in October of last year or would they beat Virginia Tech now? I say no and no. As well, despite being in the WAC, Boise schedules teams like Toledo and Wyoming out of conference. They know the WAC hurts them, so schedule 4 BCS teams out of conference if you're so interested in being #1. And even with all of that said, Boise doesn't have the test of multi week stretches of stiff competition like the Auburn's of the world do. Without all of these advantages, Boise State would not go undefeated. End of story. If Boise is the only undefeated team at the end of the season or one of two, I have no problem with them playing for the title. But if they finish ahead of any of Auburn, Michigan State, Missouri, or Oregon despite such a school going undefeated, then we have a big problem. Fans of Boise State and TCU (TCU is only a hair behind Boise State right now, and may pass them later on this year if they can pull it off against Utah) REALLY need help this weekend. Michigan State won't lose if they win this weekend, I can't see Oregon losing if they survive this weekend, and Missouri has a shot to run the table if they survive Lincoln. C'mon, do you really think a BCS team is going to schedule Boise this time of year? Hell no. They want Directional U for homecoming, if they have a break in their conference schedule. Boise is able to schedule teams early because that is when teams will play them. You don't see Florida or Alabama scheduling a home and home with a Big Ten school on their off date in October or November. It's the same principle. I can't believe I am defending them as much as I am, but let's use some common sense here. Boise does not have as much control over these things and we might hope. I don't see a whole lot of BCS teams knocking down the door to travel to Idaho. My opinion on Boise is this.... at the end of the year, look at them and decide if they are one of the best two teams. I don't care if they would have/could have been undefeated with a different schedule. If they beat the crap out of the teams on their schedule to the point that educated football people believe they deserve a shot, they should play for the National Championship. If those same people think a one loss Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State or whoever else is better, then so be it. But the playing fields are not equal in terms of schedule, conference, resources, facilities and recruiting. The bottom line is we don't know how Boise would do with another team's money resources and schedule. So all of the other reasoning is BS to me. Use your eyes. If Boise is good enough, give them the ball. If not, send them to the Orange Bowl or somewhere else. So evaluate what they can do on the field based on honest football evaluations. Unfortunately, most of the people voting in polls watch no more than highlights and don't see the teams play to the point of evaluating them. Personally, I'd like to see a panel like the NCAA basketball committee pick not only the NC game but all the BCS games and perhaps all bowl games and get rid of the polls and computers beyond them being tools used by the committee.
  17. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 05:58 AM) While I think it would be cool to see Boise there, if they played a power-conference schedule, they would have three or four losses. Still a solid team, but not national-championship worthy. But hey, I am all for seeing them there. The problem with this statement is that it is myopic. If Boise played a power conference schedule, Boise would have a lot more money, better facilities and get better recruits. Boise is what it is and there is only so much they can control. Boise does not have the resources the major conference schools do, so it is unfair to directly compare them. That said, don't look now but Va Tech is a pretty damned good team. Va Tech lost a heartbreaker to Boise and could not get over a serious hangover the next week and lost a game they never should have. Since, they have played quite well. I'm not a Boise apologist, but I do think they deserve to play with the big boys. I understand their limited resources and that it is not as easy for them to schedule big schools as most people seem to think. It is harder for them to recruit not only because of budget, but simple geography. They have built in disadvantages. If the Pac 10 would invite them, I have no doubt they would accept, however they can't control the conference they are in. If I hear one idiot on the radio say one more time "Until Boise joins a big conference they don't deserve...." I may explode. I say at the end of the year, if Boise is left standing, give them a shot. If they play in the NC game or in a BCS Bowl all the big conference schools have to do is beat their ass to shut everybody up. But the BCS schools would rather pair them with TCU than play them. If there are most deserving teams then Boise should not play in the NC game. The question is, what makes a team more deserving?
  18. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 01:31 AM) I'm incredibly interested to see how Tennessee responds after last week's debacle. Though it may not really matter with 3 true freshman and a true sophomore (JUCO transfer with no other D1 offers) starting on the O-line tomorrow. Injuries have absolutely destroyed us this year, and what makes it worse is that we have no depth, so when a starter goes out, it's like losing 2 people. Our depth chart is essentially a bunch of 1's and 3's. There are no 2's - that's how big of a gap we have between those who start and those who don't. I'm also worried b/c Georgia is 1-4 and are pretty much in a must-win situation or else Richt will probably be fired. How would you like to be Vince Dooley Saturday?
  19. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 01:05 AM) That was a huge get for Michigan, pulling him away from Alabama. You guys can steal as many from Bama as you want - the more, the better. I didn't figure you'd have a problem with that. lol Hart has pretty much been Michigan's to lose for 2 years. It should never have dragged out as long as it has.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 07:51 AM) How often has he gone over the top though? The games I've seen, his passes are short and the WR has broken them for long runs. The bad passes he's thrown have been the deep balls. That's a fair point. Touch on the deep ball is his biggest weakness right now. He has gone what I will call "over the top" 4-5 times on seam passes and deep slants. It's not your traditional long ball, but it doesn't have to be deep to be "over the top" when the safety's are biting hard on the run. Most of their long plays have been shorter passes that are broken long, but those are because of the favorable numbers the offense creates. They get one on one situations with good WR blocking and numbers advantages due to teams playing the run. I will be curious how they will do if they play a team that will play close bump and run at the line on our WR's. If they can slow down our receivers and not get beat that will take some of the options out of the offense. It opens up possibilities for a different kind of big play, but will eliminate many of the shorter passes.
  21. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 08:06 PM) Michigan gets RB Dee Hart out of my alma mater of Dr Phillips tonight. The guy is a flat out stud. He is having a video game like season this year. Good pick up for the Wolverines. Very good pickup. Very good. Now if we can find a way to steal Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix from Bama and get him to join Hart. He is supposed to be coming back up with Hart, QB Nick Patti, Roderick Ryles and a few other FL players for either the Iowa or Wisconsin games. I'm thinking Wisky but can't recall for sure off the top of my head. FSU commit Karlos Williams has said he plans to visit Michigan as well. Sammy Watkins and Dallas Crawford are supposed to be coming in for the Iowa game on an unofficial visit. I would think there is some interest if they are coming on their own dime. Many of these guys are lonshots, but if we keep winning it certainly increases our chances.
  22. I don't follow basketball recruiting as much as I used to. Anyone have any insight into IU's chances with Cody Zeller? I know he is choosiing between Butler, IU and N. Carolina but haven't seen much beyond that. Palehose, anyone?
  23. QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Sustainability is certainly a question with Nebraska. This time a year ago they were just cracking the rankings I believe. Martinez had 5 passes in the first half. That's insane. You complain about Michigan being one-dimensional, but that is video game s***. I'm not sure they can pull that off against tough teams. Hard not to be impressed though. I thought K State being at home would make it competitive. And kev, ND is better than 2-3, but they deserve the record whether or not it lines up with their quality. I still think they're a 7-5 type team. Kelly is a great hire if the fan base can wait for him to develop the team. By one dimensional does one mean offensive? Everyone sees the highlights of Robinson running 60+ yards with defenders chasing him, but some might be surprised he is averaging about 240 yards passing a game and is completing 70% of is passes. His passer rating is 179.97. I've never been able to figure out what the hell that means, but I know it's high. Look for Michigan to score quickly Saturday through the air. I see MSU trying to crowd the line and Robinson burning them over the top. After that, it'll probably be hold on tight.
  24. QUOTE (kev211 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 02:58 AM) Yeah I was harsh on Michigan, but obviously thats because I let emotions about a game I still think ND wins get into my head(I just really wish both teams could play a game where everyone was healthy, it be a great game). I think ND and Michigan are currently on the same level right now and that Michigan is probably a little overrated, and ND is a little underrated. Both teams look to have a solid future right now though. Obviously its going to take time for Kelly's system to take effect at ND, and it looks the Rich Rod's system is finally starting to work for Michigan. If Michigan goes out and beats MSU this weekend I'll start to become a bigger believer of them, but then again ND only lost to MSU in OT @MSU. If Notre Dame loses to Pitt then I'll start believing everyone else in that they're a terrible team though, because theres no excuse for losing to this Pitt team on your field. It sucks being a Notre Dame fan when everyone is the country hates your team, and the minute they go 2-3 with the hardest schedule in the nation to this point everyone jumps on them and says they're good awful when they're not as bad as their record shows. Michigan will beat Illinois, Purde, and maybe Penn st. They might steal a game vs OSU, Wisc, MSU, or Iowa. So yeah thats 8-10 wins, probably 9ish. I still don't think they're as good as the media and people are making them out to be, but they're also not the fraud I made them out to be. Your last sentence is where I disagree. I don't think the media is making Michigan out to be a good/great team at all. In fact, I still hear references to last year's melt down and talk of the toughest part of their schedule ahead. They are getting a lot of love because of Denard Robinson beause he is an amazing talent who appears to be extremely humble and handling all the attention well. But defense and special teams as well as turnovers will play a vital role the rest of the year. No one is overlooking that part of UM's team. That said, I'd be fine if they beat every team on their schedule the rest of the way 50-49 (assuming I could live through it), but that just ain't gonna happen! If that's the case, hell with defense, we'll figure that part out next year.
  25. Kev, I hear you on the Notre Dame - MIchigan game. Let's not forget though that Michigan stopped ND w/ Crist 4 times in the 2nd half and the 95 yrd TD pass was one play on blown coverage. In the first half, I got the same exact feeling you are describing. However, I just ask that Crist wasn't that great in the 2nd half after the first drive. I would submit to you that Robinson's first road game and only his 2nd start isn't representative as to how the offense is playing now nor will it play the rest of the year. Turnovers and special teams could be Michigan's achilles heel. We already know the D is limited. I don't expect every team to shred it like Chappell and Indiana did, but I have no delusions they are a good defense. The offense is predicated on what the defense gives them. I think the best any team in the country can do is try and slow them down, limit the big plays and make the drive the length of the field. That increases the odds for mistakes and turnovers. I do think at some point this year, the defense will give a good enough effort to win a game and a FG or two will determine their fate at one point. They are 1-4 on FG's and have pretty much shut it down. If their kicker(s) can show that was a fluke and become solid inside 40 they'll be okay. That may not happen. I'm certainly not looking for a long FG, that's for sure. The tests are ahead. But with MSU, Iowa and Wisky at home and Penn St struggling, I think 9 wins is realistic. They won't win all of those games, but stealing at least two of those four would be very nice. Eight wins would not be a disaster, but a bit of a disappointment.
