QUOTE (Stocking @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) 3/1 -186 4/1 -179 5/1 -170 6/1- 165 7/1- 161 8/1- 157 9/1- 157 By the middle of August I had gotten down to 154 but gained three pounds back while maintaining the same regiment, hopefully all muscle. So with that I'm done being a loser. New goal is to gain 13-18lbs of muscle in the next three months. I have absolutely totally transformed my body and become a much healthier person all around. Nice work!

A lot of opinions have been tossed about regarding Blount suspension, but I don't think anyone knows the whole story. When an athlete is suspended in this kind of situation, rarely is just the incident at hand considered. I'm sure Chip Kelly factored in past behaviors as well. He' d be stupid not to. I've heard Blount has been in trouble before and also had a habit of skipping classes. No clue if all that is true. If it is, then the length of the suspension is certainly merited. My best guess. He stays on the team until he skips a few classes and then goes away quietly. One piece of advice: Don't punch somebody when there is a camera right there in your face. Not smart!

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 07:52 AM) Honestly, I expect to put up at least 35+ on WKU while holding them to no more than a fluke TD or something. I could see a final of, like, 38-10. But more importantly, I'm just excited to see how a lot of our freshman play since we have so many in the 2-deep. Oh, and it's Game Day! I'm thinking 31-7.

Workout Tips & Tricks
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) General ice baths work wonders as you've said for rejuvenating the legs. Another trick for the legs, especially feet, is to add rubbing alcohol to a bucket of ice and water to lower the freezing point. This can reaqlly take away many overuse sorenesses. The key with any of the ice baths is no more than 20-30 minutes. If you go more than that the capillaries in the area go from contriction to dialation (the body's attempt to warm the area). This will do the opposite of the effect for which you are looking. I've used ice baths after every run of 12 miles or more and seem to bounce back faster. I also use them whenever my legs start to feel too fatigued after shorter runs. How soon after the run should they be done?

Workout Tips & Tricks
QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Aug 21, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) Nothing very difficult to do, and ptatc definitely knows a hell of a lot more about this stuff than me. Simply fill your bathtub with cold water (just needs to really be below 60*), in waist-deep water and immerse your legs/feet in it for about 15-20 minutes. It's a nice way to eliminate some of the lactic acid build-up that occurs in your legs after a hard run or workout. Do you use ice to lower the temperature of the water, or is ice somewhat of a misnomer? Are you basically referring to taking a cold shower? ;-)

How to make a protein shake that doesn't suck...
Interesting. I made a variation of the same the other night. I used water, MetRx vanillia protein packet, about 10 blueberries, 10 blackberries, 10 cherries (cut out the pits) and some ice. It was excellent. I can't stand peanut butter so I skipped that.

Greasy, tell me more about the ice bath. I was completely fatigued after my 6-mile run Saturday and felt tight, sore and just beat down. I'm running my first half marathon Oct 11 in Evansville.

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) Theres nothing about Tim Tebow that 'blows'. The kid is a grade A athlete AND person. I don't understand how people can badmouth him. And I am more tired of hearing about Tebow as a South Carolina and SEC fan, than most out of the SEC area. We hear about him ALL.THE.TIME in the south. If you want to show frustration at someone, blame the press. Tebow just goes out and does what is asked of him, and with pretty damn good ability. That was my whole point. He should be a guy we all like, but the media constantly putting him up on a pedestal makes people not like him. Which is completely unfair to him. But I don't care. I'm still sick of hear it all. Not that it takes much, but it just makes me want Florida to lose every week even more!

Official 2009-2010 NCAA Football Thread
Here is my take on Tim Tebow... Tebow is what college athletics should be all about. He's a quality individual from a quality family. He's intelligent. He's moral. He is the guy most every dad would want his daughter to bring home. He does charitable work, including mission work in foreign countries and truly lives life in the interests of others first (aside from on the field). He's super competitive and extremely talented at what he does. The problem is, with all the good things he has done, it's ALL we hear about. Every Florida broadcast has to feature all of his good deeds. For three years now (it started before his freshman year actually) every time you turn on a Gators' game, you have to hear about Tim Tebow, the saint. After three years, enough is enough. All I want to do is watch Florida play and have them laud him for his football success and talent. Tell me what he is doing to become a better player and how he is making his teammates better, but don't paint him as a saint and better than life. Anyone that watches a Florida game now should know about Tebow and all his goodness. Let's just get back to freakin football and let him be a great, All-American football player. But in all honesty, I think it is too late for that. He's been built up to superhuman status to the point, I don't think anyone will see him as simply that - human. Which is sad, because as good as he is, he is still a mortal being. All that said, he is on track to be considered one of the top college players of all time. I agree with Krush. I don't care what he does at the next level. Let's also not forget that others thought he could play in different systems. He strongly considered Michigan, who at the time was all pro-formation offense (also note, Michigan's QB coach and primary recruiter for Tebow is now his QB coach at Florida and has groomed a few NFL QB's). Alabama was probably the runner up for Tebow and with Shula, they were more of a pro set offense. While Mike Shula wasn't a great head coach, he is a well respected offensive coach in the NFL, so he must have seen something. Tebow may just suprise at the next level, but that should have zero effect on his legacy in college.

Anybody find the 2009 Helmet Schedule this year? I found one done by Simon on Sports, but it has all throw back helmets and I don't like it.

I never could figure out what the deal was with him. It was reported that IU was hot on him right after he decommitted from Kentucky. But lately, it came to light that he was never actually offered by IU, or at least by the new coaching staff. As good a player as he is supposed to be, what's the deal with him and his options all falling by the wayside?

P90X
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:29 AM) Doing both routines is going to be a waste of money. Even people in great shape will struggle through P90x the first few times through a routine, just do your best and watch how much you improve from week to week. Rock, how much are you improving? How about updating your progress?

Workout Tips & Tricks
QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 10:13 AM) I just completed my first 10K, which was also my first race. I ran the Wauconda 10K this morning in 48:12. It was definitely a learning experience, and I could have timed much better. I was too pumped going off the start line with all the people and exerted myself much more than my usual pace. I admittedly walked a little in the middle of the race, and have a better understanding what I need to do in the future, as I anticipate this being the first of many. Great experience. Nice work greasy!

That's awesome J4L! I'm glad I was able to help in some way. I may have to lean on you some now as I have hit a wall and can't seem to break through it. Between work stress and hours, I just haven't been consistent either in diet or in working out and have to find a way. I'm hovering between 255-260 and really want to get down to 225 at least. I need to do so because I still plan on running a half marathon in Evansville in October. That's 30-35 lbs will make a huge difference.

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) Yeah, when I worked for the Wizards (now the TinCaps) a couple of summers ago, they hosted a few peanut-free games. Those games actually showed a small spike in attendance too. Did you work for Mike Nutter? Is he still there in FW?

Miguel Cotto vs Joshua Clottey (WBO Welterweight Title)
I thought Clottey won the fight, but he didn't do himself any favors in the 12th round. The problem I have with scoring is that Clottey was winning the first round until the knockdown/slip at the very end of the round. It was a knockdown, but it was more due to timing and Clottey being off balance than a true knockdown punch. Cotto connected, but it wasn't that great a punch. I wouldn't say he got robbed, but I wasn't real happy with the decision, especially the scoring and I had no rooting interest at all. Hate that Mayweather/Marquez has been postponed. I was looking forward to that fight. JM Marquez was impressive in his last win against Juan Diaz, who is a pretty solid fighter in his own right.

What are you eating?
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) I've been battling ridiculous hunger lately. I've been eating what I normally eat, but am absolutely starving at points. I'm going to get a protein drink which should help, but anybody have suggestions on a healthy snack outside of fruit ( I already eat a fair amount) almonds, yoplait light yougart, All Bran, garlic and herb crackers, skim cream cheese, skim milk (toss a little sugar free nestle quick in it)

Weird Barons promotion
This isn't new. Minor League teams have been doing this for at least 5-6 years, maybe longer. Apparently, peanut allergy is very sensitive and yes it would keep someone from being able to go to a ballpark. Simply the shells on the ground could trigger a reaction. I'm sure someone knows more about this affliction than I do, but I know it is bad enough that the stadium has to be pressure washed before the event.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) How could I pull for this kid when I hated him at Duke. The video I saw of him in high school was impressive. No clue that he almost went to Notre Dame. Would probably be better than Threet and more experienced than Forcier. Sounds as if you won't have to worry. It looks as if Michigan has pulled back (he was never actually offered). It now looks like Jason Forcier, Tate's older brother who started at Michigan before transferring to Stanford may be able to play one more season and be Tate's backup. Jason graduated from Stanford and they do not have his grad program. He has only played 4 years including his transfer year, so if the NCAA allows, he can play his final year of eligibility at UM. It is a reviewable situation by the NCAA, but apparently Stanford has signed off on it. Not a sure bet by any means though.

Workout Tips & Tricks
Well I survived. Ran the 15k in 1 hour, 46 minutes. The course had hills throughout including one more than a half mile long. The elevation ranged from 400' about sea level to 1000'. Thankfully, the last mile and a half was 95% downhill, so I let the hills do the work and coasted down as fast as I could without losing my balance. I'm definitely glad it is over.

Workout Tips & Tricks
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) Have you ever run in a marathon before? It sounds like you have but just in case, make sure you band-aid your nipple area...otherwise they'll be bleeding/raw from your shirt by the time you're done. Nope, but I am familiar with nipple chafing. 10 1/2 miles is my longest trek to date, and I walked about 3 1/2 of that. Thanks for the advice. I just hope I don't hurt myself going down the large, steep hills.
