Is it me or does it seem kind of stupid for Gonzalez to jump to the NFL? In a year where there are already early entries that include Dwayne Jarrett, Calvin Johnson, Sydney Rice and even Robert Meachem... Along with seniors, are there not already enough WR's sitting ahead of him? That doesn't account for the possibility of Ginn and any others I may have forgotten. Potential seniors ranking ahead of him: Jeff Samardzjia, Dallas Baker, Dwayne Bowe, Norris Drinkard, Rhema McKnight, Ryan Moore, Steve Smith, Courtney Taylor, etc. It just seems to me he is destined for 2nd round or later. Thoughts?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) Oden reminds me of Ewing when he was his age. Take that thought and imagine Oden if he stayed in college four years. Damn that would be fun to see. QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) yep. and anyone with any appreciation for basketball history knows that indiana and illinois have had a good rivalry for a long time. he makes it sounds like it just started when sampson showed up. that just shows no appreciation for the history of the big ten. and for the record, the rivalry was 10 times more heated back in the day than it is now. knight and henson were classic. "he's a big bully." lol. That, or maybe the rivalry between IU and UI is only 4th or 5th on the list of important games in a season? Maybe we just find the obsessing over IU fans by the Illini to be comical since they really aren't a big deal to us?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) Boo IU, you should've won by 30. LOL I went to a bar and told a friend we could leave when we got up by 30. At 74-44 with 5 1/2 minutes left, I got up and walked out the door with a nice big smile. Nothing like beating the s*** out of Purdue.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) The problem is Oden is clearly not 100% in shape. Which I don't get. I mean the guy spent who knows how many hours shooting left handed so he could shoot when he came back. Why could he not have spent equal effort in getting in shape? I know there is a difference in game shape vs. practice shape, but froma cardiovascular standpoint, he should have been in 3x better shape. And just in case you missed it, IU settles in for a 27-point win over Purdue, 85-58. An output of 85 is not bad considering they had just 15 points 12 1/2 minutes into the game(PU had 7). Oh, and Duke lost to GA Tech!

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) LOL at VT that high. You can't put any ACC team starting in the top 10, nobody deserves it to start. ACC is wide open next year. Also no reason that Arkansas should be outside the top 10. I believe their 4 losses were all to top 6 teams. Totally depends on how their QB play develops. They can't keep doing what they did this year without a QB.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Hey Rex, don't look at the Evansville score tonight. Actually, I was just about to post about that game. I have no clue what the f**k happend there. I mean, I know they are not in the top tier of the Valley, but how in the hell do you lose by 52 freakin points with three seniors??? Not that it hasn't already been time, but it is definitely time to get rid of Coach Merfield. He's just not getting it done at all. Anyone got any ideas on who could be a good replacement? It would have to be someone that can recruit to a university with higher academic standards than state schools. The university is very small (2,800 students?) and predominately white in a german catholic city. Not that a lot of Valley schools are in real exciting cities, Evansville is pretty conservative without much nightlife. Combine that with a super small student body and it does not make for a real enticing situation for a lot of kids these days. The positives... A strong tradition and a fan base that will supoort it like few others when the product is competitive. When I was in school and for a few years after in the early 90's, they averaged around 10,000 per game which is not bad for a school with less than 3,000 students. Academics are strong and the program is the focus of the community when going strong, both in-season and out of season. With IU being so dominant in the state, someone with ties to IU with some name recognition could provide an instant spark (see Jim Crews in the mid 80's) to the program. I'd be interested in the thoughts of some of you guys. There are some pretty good basketball minds in this thread.

A few random thoughts on last's night's debacle.... 1. That was not the OSU team we saw all year long. 2. That was not the Florida team we saw all year long. 3. I think there has to be some validity to the idea that Ohio State was mentally spent after the Michigan game. That game was hyped so much, I think that was their "national championship" game. I think they went into the Florida game at least subconsciously overconfident, if not overtly. Running the opening kickoff back for a TD didn't help in that regard. Neither did your kick returner/star wide receiver getting hurt while celebrating said TD. 4. Anyone who says last night's game was an indictment of how much better SEC football is than the Big Ten is very quickly forgetting the Big Ten was 2-1 head-to-head against the SEC. Last night was one game, not an idictment of how a whole conference plays. That said, there is no doubt the SEC was a better conference top-to-bottom this year, but it is not 41-14 better - except for last night. 5. I have never seen Troy Smith so indecisive and timid as he was last night. He held onto the ball in the pocket way too long and whenever he tried to scramble he seemed to go the wrong way or slip/trip. 6. I agree that OSU should have played more straight up football early in the game, rather than trying to match Florida's spread. 7. Give Florida credit, they put an A-1 ass whippin on OSU last night. 8. In the confines of the regular season, I still think OSU wins 6 or maybe 7 out of 10 times.

High Definition broadcasts have nothing to do with a particular stadium. TV cameras aren't installed in a stadium or arena. A production company brings everything in and most of the time that is subcontracted out. Most of the employees working a TV broadcast are not employed by the network airing them, but subbed out. I have never worked an HD broadcast, but I have worked broadcasts for both Fox Sports Net and ESPN. In both instances, my check came from a production company, not the network. There are a limited number of HD TV trucks. ESPN cut back on HD basketball programming during bowl season, I assume due to the lack of HD trucks. Many times, whether a game on ESPN is in HD or not depends on other games that day and trucks available.

I can say one thing........... SEC cheerleaders rule in high definition!! Between the cheerleaders and the girls in the stands, there is no conference that compares.

Yes, he's a lefty. He can actually throw normally, but he generally is throwing after coming out of a crouch, selling the run, like he just did.

Fun fact - If OSU wins tonight, the Big Ten will be 3-0 head-to-head against the SEC and 0-4 against everyone else. Talking Bowl games, of course....

Don't pity Louisville. They have been up before. Howard Schnellenberger had them there in the late 80's/early 90's. John L. Smith had them headed back in the right direction when Petrino picked up. Brohm is a Louisville kid, with family ties to the program as mentioned with his brother. A new coach could definitely affect his choice, but I think it would depend on who it was more than who it was not. Unless he has a foot and a half out the door already. And how many college coaches are going to have to go to the NFL and fail before this stops? Who was the last college head coach to successfully make the transition and stick?

Sure would have been nice to see that 73-51 ass-whipping of MSU. But with CBS' regionalization, there is no way for me to see it. Not satellite, not game plan, nuttin. I ended up seeing the last 2 1/2 minutes after the exciting Kansas - South Carolina beatdown was complete. Now I gotta go to a friend's house Wednesday night because cable doesn't have ESPNU down here. It shouldn't have to be this hard.

Anybody know why Ronald Johnson didn't play in yesterday's game? He's rated the nations #1 WR by Rivals, yet most schools are recruiting him to be a lock down corner. He's a 5-star player, so I can't see why he wouldn't have been invited to play. Any info out there?

A funny side note to the Nick Saban hiring at Alabama.... Not sure if any of you saw this, but it was shown on the news and a photo in the paper here. When Saban arrived at the airport in Tuscaloosa, there was a blonde woman in an Alabama jersey that came up to Saban and gave him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. She held on as if she didn't want to let go. The cameras showed Saban's face and he had a "help me" look. Check out the attached PDF with more info on the woman. I think you will find it hilarious. Ok technical difficulties have been conquered. See this YouTube link first, then the attached PDF below. You will quickly see what kind of football fans I have to deal with living in the South.

Northern Iowa holds off SIU 66-61, to go 4-0 in the Valley. Evansville goes from being 10 or 12 back to up three on Creighton at halftime. All of Creighton's losses have been on the road. No reason another one cannot be added here.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 03:38 AM) Plus, you know Weis is gonna put all the fast, skill guys on offense to be his little toys in the system, and the defense won't get much. That defense will remain slow and mediocre unless they fire the D coordinator AND Weis gives the defense some of the talent. The current recruiting class seems to be loaded with "athletes". They can't all see the field on offense, can they? I'd think he'd have to give some of them to the defense in this situation. That said, don't get me wrong, I agree with your premise. Defense needs to become a priority. If Minter can't coach defense with what he has, he sure as hell better start being able to recruit better defensive players. The head coach doesn't do all the recruiting.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 01:43 AM) Doesnt change what I said, your team is no good either, and you obviously have a vendetta against OSU fans like myself, and rightfully so. So please attack my arguments then, Im waiting for someone to counter point what im saying instead of taking the easy way out and trying to discount me. Dude, I am a Big Ten fan living in SEC country. I have nothing against OSU or OSU fans. I have something against posters who act like they know everything and make stupid posts. I have attacked your arguments and attacked them well. You are just too biased or ignorant to see things with any objectivity at all. It's just comical watching all of these Notre Dame haters post without any objectivity, and that includes you. I don't think any ND fan here is claiming they are an elite team. But your bias can't give them the credit they actually deserve. In your last two posts you have called me a Notre Dame fan and accusing me of having an agenda against OSU. Enjoy your championship game and I'll just ignore your posts. When you start being right, maybe I'll pay attention again. Until then, keep spewing out the comedy.
