QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 01:37 PM) So now I've heard that Saban turned down a 10 year 57 million dollar contract offer from Alabama. That's just ridiculous money if true and would have changed the collegiate pay landscape. Every reliable source has shot that story down in a hurry. No one is putting ANY stock in it at all. I really think a lot of this is a smokescreen. The word seems to be that some believe Spurrier was never really getting full information from his agent, Jimmy Sexton, because Sexton doesn't think the Alabama job is a good job. They feel like they never really had a chance to present their ideas to him. That being the case, most think the guys closely involved in the search gave up on him a lot sooner than the rumor mill and media did. Not to say some prominent alumni may not have made some overtures, but that he was never really seriously a candidate. The latest news is that they have been focused on Rodriguez for awhile, but did not push it until WVU's season was over. Apparently Alabama made an official offer today and speculation from both Alabama and West Virginia is that he will accept. Some think a basic agreement could be reached as early as tonight. The offer is rumored to be approx $2 million/year. I know Rodriguez wants to put all of this to bed - either way - before the weekend. They have a big recruiting weekend planned. Don't be surprised if Rodriguez is named Alabama's new Head Coach at a press conference tomorrow.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) Earlier in the season he got suspended for a game and a couple days of school for a fight in school. Recently he is suspended from the state all-star game or something like that and 5 days of school for getting into a "very heated argument" with his coach. Some says punches weren't thrown but that's speculation. Also coming out of people who live in the area, he hangs out with a really bad crowd and some have said he has been caught smoking on recent occasions. Like you guys said, his videos are simply amazing. However, his attitude and personality is far from it. The head guy over at Warchant said that things have gotten so bad that they are no longer recruiting him. I don't have anything against the kid and I really really hope Deion turns him around because his talent should not be wasted. However, I do not want him at FSU because we have had our problems in the past. Fred Rouse was the same exact way Noel is and we all know how that ended here. Like I said, hopefully Deion will change him for the best, he gets a new shot, and keeps developing into a stud player. That could be really good for you (and I'm not being sarcastic). I know he has a lot of problems, but he needs to get out of state and get away from this situation. Like I said before, hopefully he changes for the best. Maybe I am off here, but would Deion Sanders taking him in be awfully close to a violation? I can't see Deion not being considered an FSU booster.

QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) Well, as much as I hate to say it, Noel Devine is no longer being recruited by FSU and I am perfectly happy with that. The kid is a walking problem and I guess Bobby learned his lesson about troubled recruits in the past. I don't care how talented he is, I don't want that kid walking around this campus if he is as big of a problem as everyone is making him see. Tell me more about his problems. I don't know anything about him other than what I saw in the internet videos, which were pretty amazing. What's going on with this kid?

UAB beat Minnesota tonight 88-81 in double OT. UAB really should have blown the Gohphers out of the gym, but for some reason they slowed their pace and started playing exclusively half court basketball, allowing Minnesota to claw back into it. Minnesota just kept hanging around and even had a couple of key possessions where they could have had big momentum swings, but couldn't make it happen. Eventually, their lack of depth killed them as their two guards fouled out and they had no real scoring option beyond McKenzie. I don't see Minnesota faring real well in the Big Ten this year (earth shattering news, I know). UAB is still trying to find their identity under Mike Davis. They play better when the are playing at a hectic pace, yet they keep trying to slow things down.

Does Notre Dame deserve a BCS bowl?
QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:38 PM) Again, they haven't beaten anybody worth a damn in the NCAA. I understand that that's how their schedule shaped up, well, tough. That's how the cookie crumbles, and they just didn't play good enough competition to warrant a bid in my eyes. Although, my votes don't count though. How many times do we have to go through this?? Who else deserves it more?? Just to educate you, the way the BCS finished up, West Virginia is the ONLY team that could have made it other than Notre Dame. If you think West Virginia should have gone, make an argument. But this "Notre Dame didn't play good enoug" drivel is getting old. Before making such comments, understand what the alternatives are. In this case there is only one. So go for it. Make your argument for West Virginia. Convince me.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 03:19 AM) So no one probably cares about Mizzou basketball and rightfully so, but they beat Evansville 73-54 today. That in itself isn't post worthy, but Evansville shot 28.1% as a team. Two starters went ofer the field (0-11 and 0-9 respectively) and another fouled out in ten minutes of action. That's impressive sucking. Basically Evansville's highlight was one of the players' girlfriends. Thanks for rubbing it in!

I have always been against a playoff and still am. However, I would be okay with a "plus one" format where 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 plays in the bowls around New Years and the Championship is played a week later. The only problem with that is they would not share the limelight with the other bowl games, therefore they would play it on the 2nd or 3rd. That would make it difficult to play the Championship the following Saturday (I'm assuming that is when they would want to play it) in some years. Some years that would take it to almost two full weeks before they play it.

Some of the human reactions are not too realistic. I see a mushroom cloud and think there is a nuclear war going on and I dont think I am taking my kid out trick or treating. See that's where you and I differ. I'd be thinking there won't be anybody out so this is a great chance to get all the best candy!

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) With all due respect, considering: 1. We don't know if tOSU is better than Florida, we saw on the field that tOSU is better than Michigan already. 2. Florida has a better resume and played a tougher schedule. 3. Michigan didn't even win their own conference. If you think Michigan should be #2, well your a moron. USC coulda had a legit beef if they had won yesterday and finished behind Florida (same goes for Florida had they finished behind USC), but we already know Ohio State is better than Michigan, who doesn't have nearly the quality wins of Florida or even USC, and didn't win their league. Also, Notre Dame is going to get destroyed by LSU in what will be a road game in New Orleans basically. It's an embarassment they are in a BCS game, but they'll get theirs at least. Not sure how you define respect, but I'm pretty sure that's not it. Then again, why should we expect anything less.........

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) Gators look like they're going down. Down 2, FSU to the line with 4 seconds left. Thorton makes both and FSU is going to win. And here comes the overrated chant. Apparently Florida's team has been riddled with the flu pretty bad.

QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Dec 3, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) Ha, not even close. Why would it be fair to OSU if UM wins and is crowned the champ? The series is tied 1-1 and the games were played back to back, given the 2 months in between. I just think that if UM wins then they should play another game to break the tie, I know this wont happen but it would only be fair. If UM does play in this game and win I bet the BCS will make a change in the rules that says only those teams who have won their individual conference are eligible to play in the National Championship game. GO BUCKS! I understand that feeling completely. I even posted right after the first game that if Michigan gets the rematch and wins, a split NC should be done unless the game is a total blowout (which I don't see happening). The problem with changing the BCS rules everytime a situation comes up is that none of these rule changes can fit every possible scenario. They continue to be reactive with the BCS formula, yet it is never right because they cannot predict every possible scenario. I just find it funny that the BCS is now closer to what we had before the BCS and farther away from how it was originally designed.

I don't really have an issue with the rematch or non-rematch. First of all, for those that have been hiding under a rock, I am a Michigan fan, just to make that clear. My problem is this. There are several ways one can look at this that can make sense. Michigan is the 2nd best team. Florida had the better schedule. No one wants to see a rematch. What bothers me is that people will make their decision this week based on what happened yesterday. If those that voted last week and the week before didn't consider these kinds of comparisons then they weren't doing their jobs. If they suddenly change their votes this weekend why are they doing it? Is it because there were less games to watch so they were able to focus on this particular scenario more? Is it because they expected USC to keep it from getting hard before and now they actually have to think a little bit? How much is their decision influenced by the fact that only one of the two teams played this week and they played on a national stage? Is it fair that he who goes last wins? Compare to who gets the last recruiting visit for an impressionable HS senior. If people really think Florida is the better team or has earned the shot, then why did the polls not reflect this before yesterday? Based on the system we have, I just think it is unfair to Michigan the way it could unfold. That doesn't mean it is the wrong decision. Part of me isn't for the rematch either. But the other part of me wants the best two teams there because that is what the BCS was designed to give us. The thing that is funny about the BCS to me is when it was originally designed, it was made to lessen the human element in the equation and use more objective measures (computers, strength of schedule, etc). Because people didn't like those results, the formula is back to 2/3 human polls, which is what it was designed to go away from in the beginning. Either way, I am okay with what happens today. I just don't like the mentality that today is it okay to start evaluating these teams like this is the first time they are rated. Why even have rankings if what people voted for the past several weeks gets flushed down the toilet in one day when one of the teams did not have a chance to perform.

Is Danielson doing enough to promote Florida right now? f*** him. I could care less if people vote for Florida, but listening to him campaign makes me want to puke. To act as if Michigan doesn't even deserve consideration is assinine. Let the SEC whining begin. This next week will be hell living down here, dealing with the whining if Michigan does go to the championship and with the Bama coaching search and a different rumor every hour of the day.

Now Florida throws a pass on a reverse for a TD. What a wild game! If nothing else, you could certainly say this game was entertaining.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 07:56 PM) Don't tell Urban Meyer style points count. Call them style points or whatever you want. I prefer to consider it "how you play" and playing like s*** and scraping by should not count the same when you have to split hairs to differentiate between two teams. This game is making me puke right now. Arkansas had all the momentum in the world until that dumbassed play on the punt. The game has completely turned upside down, minutes after Florida was shooting itself in the foot. This reminds me of Tennessee several years ago when they won the NC. They lucked into two wins that year, one that Arkansas handed to them on a silver platter when all they had to do is take a knee, and the other a last second win against Syracuse (I think) earlier in the year. Now it's time to see if Arkansas has the cajones to come back. Different game, but does anyone know why Pat White isn't playing for West Virginia tonight?

That whole sequence, with Florida faking a pint on 4th and 1 from their own 11 to running the option with Chris Leak, to the burned timeout and STILL punting, to the TD on the muffed punt that never should have been touched. I couldn't make up such a scenario! Honestly, if this game stays close I think Michigan will get the call anyway. I just don't see people moving Florida ahead with the way they are playing, combined with some of their previous performances. They needed a solid win tonight, not a scrambling win in a sloppily played game.

Does Notre Dame deserve a BCS bowl?
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 06:54 PM) So...how does the UCLA win that ND has look now? Just wondering. It doesn't help them at all. UCLA had ND beat and it was pure luck. Besides the USC win for UCLA was a total fluke!
-

Avoid a blocked punt and it will take a miracle for USC to win this.
-

Did you just see the USC defender punching at the ball but instead punching the UCLA running back?? That's pretty shaky.
-
Official College Football Thread
I'm pretty convinced that should USC fail to come back, that Florida will jump Michigan and go to the championship game. I just think there will be too many people that will argue against a rematch and that will give Florida credit for their schedule, regardless of how they struggled at times. They got it done, and I think that will be enough. That said, I still think USC finds a way to win this game.

Does Notre Dame deserve a BCS bowl?
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) Which is why I dont understand the ND fans trying to attack Wisconsin for no reason. Maybe my memory is foggy, but I thought the Wisconsin talk began when the uninformed stated they belonged instead of ND earlier in the thread. When someone says name 10 teams that deserve to go more and people list 8 teams that are already in and 2 that aren't eligible, then arguments begin. ND got compared to Wisconsin I guess because they have similar schedules.

Does Notre Dame deserve a BCS bowl?
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 2, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) There is my first comment. Now I believe that Wisconsin is a better team, and would beat Notre Dame. I obviously understand ND fans are going to disagree, but what stat is out there that would make me not have faith in Wisconsin winning? As your own post shows, Wisconsin played better against the 3 teams that they both mutually faced. I think Wisconsin would win, didnt realize that phrasing it as "Wisconsin would beat ND" would be so offensive? I have no problem with Wisconsin and do think they are a good team. They just don't belong in this discussion. It is not Notre Dame's fault that Ohio St and Michigan were better than the Badgers this year and the BCS only allows two teams per conference. Without that rule, Wisconsin probably would be in a BCS bowl. It just doesn't apply in a discussion of whether Notre Dame deserves to be in a BCS bowl.
