How did you get into the Sox?
I was a Reds fan when I was young. The first World Series I can remember is the 1975 Series between the Reds and Red Sox. In 1977, they started breaking up the Big Red Machine, trading Tony Perez. At the same time, Evansville, IN got cable. I started watching Cubs games after school and became a die-hard Cubs fan. About 10 years ago I started working for a Sox affiliate. After getting to know the players and many of the front office personnel, my allegiance started migrating toward the Sox. As recently as 2003 I was still rooting for both. But the more I was exposed to the Sox and the more I got tired of listening to Dusty Baker, the Sox won out completely. Now, the Cubs bore me.

I'll be honest, what has me excited about this IU team is the fact they are scoring. Early in the year, I thought we were going to see an all-defense, grind it out kind of team. But this team is doing a good job on both ends right now. We now go into our toughest stretch of the year, IMO. We SHOULD beat Iowa at home, but then face UConn and Illinois in back-to-back road games. Then a couple of dangerous home games against Michigan and Wisconsin followed by a trip to Iowa and a visit by Illinois. Go 5-2 in that stretch and this looks to be a really fun year. 4-3 would be acceptable, but hey, who's looking for acceptable?? Oden is making Tennessee look like a bunch of 6th grade girls inside. 20 points 12 rebounds 4 assists lots of blocks still almost 12 minutes to play

Wilmont has launched 16 trey's himself, making 7. He has 25 pts with 6+ minutes to go. Is AJ Ratliff finally becoming the player everyone thought he could be??? Can someone that is watching tell me what they are seeing in AJ today? All I can see it the lovely little computer game cast.

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) Roderick Wilmont with 6 threes and 20 points at the half. He is shooting out of his freakin mind. I wish he would do that consistently. Some games he seems to disappear and doesn't even take shots, let alone make them.

They're doing something right now. They were down 17-5 when I first looked up the score. It's now 22-20. Didn't take too long for them to wake up, I guess.

How about Jim smacking Dwight in the face??? Dwight: I don't let anyone walk behind me. 70% of attacks come from behind. Jim: That leaves 30% that I will attack you from the front. Dwight: But I would see that coming and be able to block it. SMACK!

The only viable way they could have a playoff now without turning college football upside down as we know it, would be to have a PLUS ONE. It would have to include a 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 in the bowls, however. You could not just play the bowl games and then take #1 and #2 afterwards. We'd basically be right back in the same position we are in now.

The Office
Something I just now thought about. They didn't address the Michael/Jan issue at all this week. We last saw Jan getting all hot for Michael and he had not yet told her about the photo getting out. I would have thought there would be a continuation of that, or at least some mention. Maybe that's next week? If you haven't already and want to see some good stuff go to NBC: The Office and check out the deleted scenes from last week's episode.

Now that I think about it, Iowa Asst. Craig Neal could be a solid candidate. He's from Washington, IN, about 45 minutes from Evansville. Maybe they can hire him quick enough to have him talk Tyler Zeller into staying "home" and turning the program around? Okay, a pipe dream maybe, but an interesting thought. Thinking a bit more on it, the best choices I can think of right now are: 1. Craig Neal 2. Marty Simmons 3. Brad Brownell 4. Lennox Forrester Forrester is a Bradley assistant who was on Jim Crews Evansville staff for 10 years. Forrester came to Evansville from an Oklahoma JC highly heralded. He was injured before he ever played a game at UE and never played for them. Crews kept him on scholarship and gave him a grad assistantship. He stayed on staff for 10 years. I remember meeting Lennox at a part the night of his recruiting visit. We talked for about 20 minutes, so I will take all the credit in the world for success so far. ;-)

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Bring back Marty Simmons? Speaking of which: http://www.siue.edu/news/ Actually, that is a very good suggestion. I know Marty pretty well. Yes, I am that old. I was in school at the same time he was playing and was pretty good friends with most of the basketball players. Marty looks like he can still drink some serious beer! But, I think he would give the program an instant boost of familiarity and energy. Unfortunately, two guys from Evansville who would be excellent coaches have likely worked their way past UE's level. Chris Lowery from SIU and Brad Brownell from Wright State (was at UNC Wilmington the past few years) are both from Evansville and played HS basketball there. Brownell could be a possibility, I guess. I have yet to figure out why he went from UNC-Wilmington to Wright St on his own. He seemed to have a pretty good thing going at Wilmington, following Jerry Wainwright. There are probably others that have ties to Evansville or Indiana basketball in some way that would be good choices, but I am blanking on them right now.

The Office
What a great episode!! First of all, there is no way Dwight is leaving The Office, so there is a definite turn coming. To me that is a no-brainer. I would not be totally shocked if the whole situation gets flipped and Andy ends up on the outside looking in. Stanley laughing at Ryan in the car was hilarious. The look on Ryan's face when all he could say was "hi" was priceless too. Dwight rocking out in the car was sweet too. The funniest thing may have been when the guy the girls were seeing turned around the picture of him and his wife, which explained the makeover. Good stuff tonight! Now time to go watch Earl.

So how about we come to a general agreement? 1. The whole Gordon deal is over and no more comments are allowed. If Gordon lights up some HS for 60 points, post it in the IU thread on TalkBigTen. If both sides leave that alone we are halfway there. 2. Both sides are allowed to take shots at the other without the whole fan base taking it personally. 3. Assume when idiot comments are made, and they will be made, replies that generalize are not really meant to be directed at all fans of either school. 4. Replies to stupid, idiotic posts should be dealt with using harshly worded retaliations and the innocent fans of either school not involved are totally able to sit back and laugh at it, even making an occasional post to stir the pot, all in good fun of course. 5. If this keeps up, we'll have to put boxing gloves on Greasy and Krush and sell tickets to the fight. I'd suggest a live web cast for those of us that live too far to come see it. Lastly, no one has yet to give me some ideas about who would be a good choice for Head Coach at Evansville, because I see no way Steve Merfield survives this year. I need some actual basketball discussion here folks!!

What Hottie don't you get?
I agree with others on Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore and Kirsten Dunst. Each of them has had roles where my opinion changed, but overall, I'm saying not that hot. I'm not a big Paris Hilton fan either. The only thing that is attractive about her is the slut factor, which is not something I should be admitting in a public forum. lol QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) She has an amazing ass, she looked outsanding in the Rules of Attraction. TCM = Texas Chainsaw Massacre I am not into scary movies. I didn't even know she was in it. May have to check it out anyway. I was also a big fan of her appearance on Trading Spaces. Now that's a show that went downhill fast as soon as they got rid of Paige.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) What the? Jessica Biel is the only female in history to cause me to have a giant boner for 2 hours straight. I couldn't even get up to get a refil on popcorn during TCM. I agree wholeheartedly. How in the hell can you not think Jessica Biel is hot?? Just watch Summer Catch...... my God, she was SMOKIN! Now for my ignorance, what was TCM?

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) I just can't stand when one peron's post is made to represent an entire fan base I can only speak for myself, but it is not just one fan's posts that have changed my feelings for Illinois. There is more than one poster here and others on other boards that seem to have a chip on their shoulder about IU. Kinda like little brother syndrome. While there are intelligent and rational Illini posters on here, my feeling is there are fewer than the opposite. Quite simply, I am a Big Ten guy first and foremost. I root for Big Ten teams all the time. But I am beginning to find myself hoping Illinois loses and I don't like that. It never occurred before I started talking college basketball on a couple of message boards. It doesn't occur with other teams (although Rock sometimes makes me want to root against OSU). So for me, who considers himself to be pro-conference and someone that enjoys friendly rivalries (okay, so I really dislike Purdue) to start a consistent dislike for a team bugs me. Maybe its all my fault. But it's real.
