QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 12:01 AM) I guess if I didnt agree with him, I should have supported his argument. Look both of you, it sucks when your team loses, but frankly they arent top 20 material. I know when my team is down and I dela with it, ND just isnt that good this year, and it sucks for you, but yeah its the truth. They had no business being in a bowl with a team that good, and they proved it on the field for me. Funny thing is, I am a Michigan football fan. I can see how ludicrous your arguments are from the outside. It doesn't take a lot of objective intelligence to see it. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) Now it looks like Fisher to Bama. It changes every day. Supposedly Bama is offering him anywhere from 650k-1mil for OC, and FSU is only offering 500k. It sucks for UAB. They offered Fisher 500k for HC, but the Alabama Board of Trustees said it wasn't prudent use of the money. Well then how the hell can they justify the money Saban got and the money Fisher might get. Update: If Jimbo does not make a decision tonight or early tomorrow, they are most likely going to pull the offer because they are sick of waiting. To clarify, UAB never offered Fisher anything. In fact, they never interviewed him. He was their #1 choice but the Board of Trustees who have final approval of a coach said he would be too expensive (it was rumored it would take $600k-$625k to get him). To answer how Bama can pay him that much or more to be a coordinator is quite simple. Alabama football makes huge profits. UAB loses money. If UAB were self-sustaining, they would have it tougher defending that decision. All that said, I am not saying I think it is right. It seems somewhat of a conflict of interest that the same Board members have the sole power to approve coaches at both universities at the same time. I have no doubt that the Board of Trustees were confident enough that Saban was interested and that the ability to get Fisher may be a necessary carrot that they killed the offer to Fisher. It was worth the gamble to them. If you don't believe that, then one could argue that they didn't want UAB possibly getting a better coach than UA might end up with, since this was after the Rodriguez withdrawal. Lastly, I'll be shocked if Fisher doesn't end up at the Capstone.

The Office
Good episode tonight. Also left room for some nice drama next week. Wonder if Jan will end up getting fired?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 07:17 PM) It appears BSU would have handed them their lunch. I would have matched ND up with someone in the 20's rankings-wise, nothing even near single digits. Damn, somebody should have asked you beforehand. Who knew you had all the answers?? Besides yourself, of course.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 05:50 PM) I also would rather have ND than a Big East team like WVU or Rutgers. The teams on LSU's level either were in better bowl games or could not be selected. I agree. I thought LSU was a HORRIBLE matchup for Notre Dame from the very beginning.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 01:47 AM) Fact is Notre Dame isn't the 11th best team in the country. The BCS didn't fail by putting them in, the voters did. Notre Dame is probably going to have 1 win against a top 25 (from the final poll) this year, Penn St. I say probably because they aren't ranked now, but probably will be on the final rankings. That's also the only team they beat that won their bowl game. Yes, they have only lost to the top tier in the country, but they haven't had any good wins either. Compare that to Rutgers or West Virginia who have a top 15 win on their resume. The flipside is both teams have a bad loss. I guess the voters would rather have a team that hasn't lost to a bad team as opposed to a team that has a quality win. Then again, if Notre Dame was in a real conference and had to play decent teams on the road more often they would probably be in the same situation. Sagarin ratings. ND had 20th ranked strength of schedule. 0-3 against top 10 teams. 4-0 against 11-35. 3-1 against Big Ten teams. So they weren't a top 10 team. But nobody else had a better resume. ND beat six bowl teams. I'd say most anyone that did not openly hate Notre Dame, would have taken them over WVU or Rutgers. Their bad losses cost them their chance.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) Wow, this is a stat....87 different 1-A teams have won a bowl since Notre Dame's last win, and their 9 game bowl losing streak is now an all time record, passing their tie at 8 with South Carolina. That is obviously a big part of them being ND and getting into bowls they shouldn't be against superior teams, but wow. And that has NOTHING to do with whether they deserved a BCS bid THIS year. You can't be that ignorant, can you? Or are you just trying to avoid the argument?

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) Wisconsin, but they were not eligible. Therefore not a legit answer, but I don't need to tell you that. However, for others benefit, I'll go on. Eligibility is not something Notre Dame controls. So if someone wants to argue Wisconsin, they can't blame Notre Dame for being where they are. Argue the setup of the BCS, but that is a totally different argument.

Competitive matchups is far from the point of the BCS. The point of the BCS is to create a National Championship Game, plain and simple. The rest of the games are dictated by conference champions that are tied to bowls and at large teams that are selected in a pre-selected, rotating order. Bowls choose the best at-large team they can that will attract attention and ratings to their bowl. It has NOTHING to do with creating competitive matchups. It never has. And this is the last time I will say it. Just ONE time will someone tell me who was more deserving of the last at-large spot than Notre Dame. Everyone wants to crow they didn't deserve to be there, but that is bull s***. They were the obvious choice of the remaining eligible teams. To say they didn't deserve a bid is pure ignorance. Please understand the purpose of the BCS people. It has had only one purpose since its inception and that same purpose remains. That purpose is to create a National Champion. But I think I already said that.

QUOTE(Fotop @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) Sidenote: LSU fans chanting overrated. That's downright moronic. You must not be too familiar with LSU football. All those crazy Cajuns drink all day and get real loud and stupid when LSU plays at night. Ever notice LSU rarely plays a day game at home? The atmosphere in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is one of the toughest to play anywhere. Opopsing teams get yelled at, things throw at them, their momas talked about, etc. It's not pretty. LSU playing in the Sugar Bowl is a HUGE advantage. About as close to a home game as you can get.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) Of course ND doesn't belong in the bowls they get into....but since they are ND, they are a lock for BCS everytime they go 10-2, end of story, no matter how many times they get killed. Sure they do, but that has already been discussed. Move on please.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) Amaker has gone to a young line up. Abrams is the only senior he has been starting. Michigan can not beat a half way decent team. Illinois will run away with it. I can't believe how down I have gotten on Michigan basketball, thank God for SIU!! Illinois must not be a half way decent team then.

Russell has more than a good arm. They weren't kidding when they said he can throw the ball 60 yards from his knees. He throws deep balls effortlessly. The knock on him has been consistency. I think if he goes, he will definitely challenge Quinn for the top QB taken. He's huge and near impossible to bring down. He has a cannon and generally makes good decisions. I've enjoyed watching him the past few years. If he does come back, he forces Matt Flynn, the QB who beat Miami 41-3 in the Peach Bowl last year to sit his senior year. LSU also has Ryan Perrilloux, a redshirt freshman who was one of the top 2-3 QB's in last year's recruiting class. LSU is stocked at QB. Oh, and Bradshaw sucks!!

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) Jimbo would be turning down a lot of money at FSU and a lot of freedom with the offense and more offensive talent on the FSU squad. I don't see him turning it down, but who knows. Book it. Fisher will be the Offensive Coordinator at Alabama. Saban making the jump to Bama was more about control than money. The control he will be given is not something he could ever have in the NFL. I guarantee you Saban secured the control to get the coaches he wants and pay them what he needs to. QUOTE(T R U @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) Um, maybe because he said NUMEROUS times he wasn't leaving Miami and that he would not be the Alabama coach? The fact that his philosophy was about honesty, integrity, and accomplishing what he came to do? He totally slapped us fans and the organization in the face with what he did.. that to me makes him a jerk and a liar What do you expect him to say in the middle of the NFL season? Coaches lie all the time. If Miami wins their last three games he may still be there. If Alabama backed off, he'd still be in Miami. But he couldn't just say with 3 or 4 games left in the Dolphins season he was going to jump, because he didn't know for a fact if he was. If he even hinted he may leave, the Miami media would have eaten him up and created the same level of distraction as if he would have said he was openly pursuing it. That's the nature of the beast these days. The media will not allow anything to go on behind the scenes anymore. Saban was questioned weekly, if not daily about the job after repeated denials he had been contacted. I truly believe there was nothing else he could have done.

I think the only chance IU has to beat OSU tonight is to try and run them out of the gym. The times OSU has looked vulnerable is when they have tired after playing an uptempo game. Catch is, I'm not sure IU has the personnel to do so. Nor am I convinced that Sampson can or is willing to coach that style. I guess we shall see pretty quickly tonight.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 12:32 AM) I could care less how many you find. His random out-of-place cheerleader rant began to overshadow what was happening on the field. BTW, the constant David v. Goliath references got old fast. They weren't 30 point underdogs. Furthemore, i wasn't the first one to bring it up, which means i'm not the only one to "nit pick" this. It was sooooo FOX-like. I agree, Brenneman was wearing on me too, especially the playoff rant. FOX just likes to try and create drama rather than allowing the situation to play out in its own drama. It's one of the reasons I have hated FOX baseball broadcasts for a long time. That said, get TB off of FOX and I like him.

I'm not so sure preparation is as much the problem as USC exposing Michigan's secondary, especially Morgan Trent and Willis Barringer. OSU did the same thing. USC is doing a good job of rolling the pocket away from Lamar Woodley, making him ineffective. USC is just extremely talented and when they are focused, they are damned good. I think they would have made for an excellent matchup against OSU.

Looks like Alabama is going to take a swing at Saban despite all of his past denials. The money being thrown out there is just stupid, so time will tell what is true and what is not. But I have no doubt they are going to throw a formal contract offer in front of him and put the pressure on him to make a decision.
