  1. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Same thing happened to a lesser extent in the Butler/Indiana game. Well actually, I shouldn't say that, Butler did get more than a fair game. But Butler had it tied with 15 minutes left, and they immediately call a total BS foul on the Butler guy to get him his 4th and get him out of the game. As a result, Indiana takes a dozen point lead and nearly runs Butler out of the game while the star player sits. That's how it goes though. I certainly hope you are joking. You aren't insinuating the refs helped IU in that game? You isolate one call in a game full of whistle-happy officiating? There were s***ty calls for two straight nights affecting both sides. There is no way one call in any way can illustrate such a point.
  2. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) FWIW, we only have one scholarship remaining, unless DJ leaves. That's why Thomas is expected to wait until spring. Either DJ will go or someone will leave.
  3. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 14, 2006 -> 06:21 PM) http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazett...es/16011270.htm Fort Wayne North's Eshaunte Jones verballed to play at Indiana today. He is attending a prep school next season, and will be a part of the 2008 class. That's been expected for awhile. Good to hear it's done. Also, DeAndre Thomas is expected to verbal to IU, but not sign until the spring, allowing IU to sign one more this fall. Thomas is a 6-8 270lb power forward from Chicago, currently playing at Chipola Junior College. I'm hoping that Jordan Crawford will still sign with IU this fall.
  4. Consider me in the camp of the Knight "incident" being a bunch of ado about nothing. I don't agree with everything he does, but I wouldn't consider that alarming at all.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) I don't even know how to summarize that one, except to say Calloway is studly. IU wins Sampson's first game 91-66, and will play Butler for the rights to continue on to New York in the Pre-NIT. I think I have only seen one game with more fouls called, ever! That game was painful to watch at times. A good win, but they'll have to be better tomorrow night. For the record, the most fouls I have ever seen in a game was 85 when Evansville beat Butler 136-128 in 2OT in 1991 @ Hinkle Fieldhouse. Evansville committed 46 fouls and Butler 39. I do remember that had four players on the floor with four fouls each and a walk-on playing at the end. The rest of the team had fouled out. Evansville was 46-63 at the FT line and Butler made 51 FT's. It was unlike any game I have ever seen. Sorry for my trip down nostalgia lane....
  6. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Nov 13, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) Im not failing to see anything. Illini fans just seem to think 2 recruiting classes will put them on the level of Michigan and OSU. This is not basketball. Case in point (from another board)....
  7. chimpy, you need to just chill, drink a couple of cocktails and stare at Jenn Stegner as much as possible. That's a better college experience than most.
  8. QUOTE(zenryan @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 11:41 PM) doesnt matter if they did. Arkansas has a 2 game lead with 2 to play. Arkansas isnt going to lose to Miss St. so they are going to Atlanta regardless. that has nothing to do with my post........ I was merely pointing out the possibility of zero SEC teams finishing with one loss
  9. QUOTE(zenryan @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 04:54 PM) Arkansas is going to beat Florida so it wont matter. And don't be surprised to see LSU beat Arkansas first.
  10. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Nov 12, 2006 -> 12:13 AM) Well let's set up a scenario: USC loses to Cal ND loses to USC WVU beats Rutgers FSU beats Florida Florida beats Arkansas in the SEC champ Could a Michigan/OSU rematch be set? I'm not convinced Notre Dame has much of a shot regardless, for one reason.... How bad Michigan handed it to them. If OSU and Michigan play a good, close game, then I would have a hard time seeing ND step in ahead of either one. I think the greatest likelihood of a rematch would come if Michigan wins a close game. The SEC right now seems to be the one's that can throw a monkey wrench into rematch enthusiasts plans. Anything can happen in a rivalry game, but I have my doubts FSU will beat Florida. The more likely scenario is Arkansas losing to LSU and then beating Florida in the SEC Championship. Either of these two teams ending the season with one loss deserves to get to the Championship, IMO. Arkansas is a totally different team than the one that lost to USC and are a damned good team. Darren McFadden, if he was more well known coming into the season and if he was healthy for the USC game, would be a top 3 Heisman candidate right now without a doubt. The guy is as good as any RB in college football.
  11. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 11, 2006 -> 06:57 PM) So.. since Florida played a close game, should they fall in the rankings? Not with Louisville, Texas, Auburn and Cal all losing.
  12. QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Nov 8, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) Well we kept it within 20 not bad, we have a good season ahead of us ranked 4th in D-2, but im still and illini fan at heart. Marty Simmons still the coach at SIUE?
  13. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) 95-50 was the final score of our first exhibition game against ND today. Sampson got more pissed and did more coaching today than I ever saw Davis do (with the exception of Kentucky in Dec. 2002). We had six in double figures, and the defense looked stellar. I think Bassett's going to see some substantial time off the bench this year; he's been impressive in everything I've seen him do so far. And BTW, ND = North Dakota. Thanks for the update greasy. I listened to a little bit on the internet, but couldn't concentrate on what was going on.
  14. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Nov 5, 2006 -> 03:58 PM) Tennessee is garbage? Have you watched any of their games? They have 2 losses. 1 was a one-pt. loss to Florida (a game in which they returned an INT for a TD, but it got called back b/c of a phantom hit on Leak's head... they said the DL that forced the bad throw/INT hit Leak in the face w/ his hand, when on replay you could see that he barely grazed the helmet, and really just hit the shoulder pad). The other loss being last night, where Russell cleary fumbled on the last drive for LSU, but the refs f***ed up and blew the whistle BEFORE he was down, so they couldn't review the play. Oh, and 3 1/2 quarters of the game was played by our backup QB against the best defense in the country, and we still should have won if for not getting f***ed over by the refs. So, if TN gets that TD against Florida, and the refs don't f*** up the Russell fumble, then we're undefeated, and either in 2nd or 3rd in the BCS. yawn....... Tennessee is one of the luckiest team's I have ever seen. If they were the recipient of a couple of bad calls then life sucks for them. Tennessee is a solid team, but they are not that good.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) Iowa's defense was real bad today, but the fact they played their 2nd best QB didn't help. And that Illinois game was only a mild surprise (I figured OSU by 14 or 17) to me, the Illini defense is real good, the offense is....well not so much. Not sure WTF Michigan was doing though. Where the hell was their defense against Indiana then?
  16. I would think we could lose this thread now, seeing there is no longer an offer.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 4, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) ISU sucks. Big time. What the hell happened?
  18. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) just a warning, i'll probably be in jail tomorrow after i tear down the goalpost after the upset of the year If you are in jail, it will be due to the drugs you are taking that caused you to type such a statement.
  19. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 10:39 AM) From the Sun-Times BLOG by Michael O'Brien. I'm just posting it because I remember reading it. This is an opinion, but he knows more than I do, so TIFWIW: Not such a strange comment. Just a way to ease the pain of the loss of Gordon. Bash him a little bit, knock his hype down a bit so the sting doesn't seem so bad.
  20. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 2, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) He doesnt want to play with Gordon. Thats the thing people are missing, he wants to be the stud player, he doesn't want to share the limelight with Gordon. Indiana, IMO, is out. And its between Memphis and Illinois, depsite the fact the Derek might not like the drive to Memphis, I still think he ends up at Memphis. Where do you get this??? As has said before, the only reason he was considering IU in the first place was the allure of playing together with Gordon. Perhaps he has changed his mind, I don't know. But unless you got something concrete, I can't buy your thoughts. Keep in mind, the guy is a point guard. What makes a PG great are players that can finish what he dishes out. A great PG makes the other players better. So "sharing" the limelight could very well give Rose more than not. All that said, I am not predicting he will go to IU. I really don't have a feel for where he will go and as I have said before, I really don't want him if he is planning on being one-and-done going in. But there is no reason IU would still be on his list if your original premise were right.
  21. I'm betting on Manningham being back by the Indiana game on a limited basis, enough to get him ready for Ohio Sate.
  22. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) Michigan with Manningham is much different than Michigan without Manningham. They also have the best front 4 I have seen in college football in a long time. Add to that four quality linebackers (Harris, Burgess, Crable and Graham) and one of the best corners in the country in Leon Hall and you have one hell of a defense. I'm not too worried about Michigan. They have been playing without Manningham and have kept their offensive package pretty simple the past few games. They have been content to run it down teams throat and wear them down, which is exactly what they have done. They are definitely a different team offensively without Manningham. With Manningham they have a deep threat, which allows Arrington to run the slot and Breaston to be an option on short passes and screens, etc, trying to give him room to run. Greg Matthews is beginning to step up, which will give them a nice 4th option with the return of Manningham. They are inconsistent at times and that could cost them in the end. But so far they have taken care of the ball this season and their defense has been stellar. Sexy wins with lots of style points aren't always a necessity.
  23. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Oct 30, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) I just fail to see why you would want to go to UofI over FSU, ND, UF, USC, and other schools. It just makes no sense to me why you would want to go to such a sucky school. I know FSU sucks really hard, but holy crap...UofI? D'lo even said that UofI is in a rebuilding stage and he likes that over UF who is already there? I can understand wanting playing time, but UF is so much closer to winning championships than UofI will ever be in the next four years. In general, a player would want to go to a U of I for two reasons. One, to play right away and two, to be a part of turning something around. The big fish in the little pond theory. I am not sure about FSU's WR depth, but it seems at ND, he could get immediate playing time, with them losing both Samardzjia and McKnight. this year. So that would negate one of the advantages U of I might have, I would think.
  24. QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Oct 28, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) If IU misses out on Rose, than they will likely be done. Word on the street is that Jones is likely heading to prep school(doesn't have the grades), and IU is an extreme long shot to land Lucas. You might see them go after a JUCO player or two, or possible a late bloomer in the spring. Personally, I still think they need another PG(if they don't get Rose). Bassett will be the only scholarship PG on the roster next year. Jordan Crawford, a 3-star PG out of Hargrave Military Academy in VA was scheduled to visit IU today. Supposedly, IU and Xavier are currently his top two choices.
