From KFFL: May 11 The Chicago Tribune reports Chicago Cubs P Glendon Rusch will start Friday, May 13 against the Washington Nationals instead of SP Carlos Zambrano, giving Zambrano an extra day of rest so he can pitch in the May 20-22 series against the Chicago White Sox.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 03:29 AM) Wow, now Gio Gonzalez is untouchable? Who do you think we are going to get at the deadline if you wouldn't even be willing to trade him? You value prospects far too much. I think he's thinking Borchard for mesa

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 11, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) I really believe that KW has decided to keep BMac, Sweeney and Anderson. I doubt that he'll move these guys. He'd have to overwhelmed to consider it. Just my opinion. We do have options beyond that thankfully, We do have a pretty good farm.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 03:23 AM) My God, I just forced myself to watch Cantu's walkoff homer versus Shingo. It was a friggin' 81 MPH straight meatball right down the middle of the plate. Disgusting, Shingo, just disgusting. :puke Shingo knew it was a homer a second after he threw the pitch. He looked up so quick . Yeah, he knew it was gone.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 03:11 AM) Yep, but at least you tried your best. Are the Astros morons for trading for Carlos Beltran last season and riding him all the way to the playoffs? Not in my book. It's better than sitting out and watching other teams compete in the playoffs. Are you just going to sit back, not make a move, and hope we can have another nice record like this with those untouchable prospects next season? You can't use hindsight on this one. If you fail to make the playoffs, at least you did your best to get there when you had your best chance. Agreed with Beltran. Its just the chance some teams have to take to get to the ultimate goal. If we are gonna go swimming, we have to jump in with a splash (wagner) not dip our foot and back away cause it's too cold.

I have come to this conclusion All Or nothing: Jabroni, RangerCal wants all, but wants future too: DBAHO Face it . We are all greedy bastards in our own way

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 03:05 AM) Ok let's see then. Atlanta could use Wagner. If they take wagner . we'll take kolb
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 03:01 AM) Re-signing Wagner means little in the equation. They would be trading for Wagner to win it all THIS season, not next season. I am thinking of 2005 as well.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) And there'll probably be other teams willing to give up real good prospects for Wagner as well. Not too many teams. Most contending teams are already contenders because they already have a closer like wagner.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:49 AM) But here's what the Sox have to determine. Is it worth trading for Wagner who would save you an extra couple of games late in the season, for an outfielder or pitcher that would produce very well at a cost of $300,000? Couple of games? If we made the wagner trade it is because KW would think we were going deep in the playoffs and possibly go for the whole thing. Who would you rather have in the playoffs? QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:49 AM) Anyway it's still way too early to determine whether or not Wagner will put us over the top, when we may not even be in that position late in the season. And KW and Ozzie said in 2 articles yesterday they won't be making a BIG move at the deadline. Thats easy to say when you are 24-7. After tonight and after future bullpen meltdowns things will change fast.

Let me note. I am willing to risk that scenerio for a chance to win a ws.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) We acquire Wagner, give up one of Anderson, Sweeney or B-Mac, we miss the playoffs, and Wagner leaves as a FA after the season. That's a big, big loss. and thats a 100 % definate chance of happening? You are looking at the absolute worst scenerio if we got wagner.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) I love this mentality of acquire Billy Wagner and we win the World Series. That's not going to happen. Mesa may not be the guy to go after, but I don't want to give up a king's ransom for Wagner, when it could be likely Shingo could turn it around, or Marte or Hermanson could fill in and do the job. we have a better shot with wagner rather than mesa. If this team turns out to be special why would we not to do all we can to put us over the top?
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:29 AM) That's just your point of view on him. People are always going to be wary because of what's happened before his stint in Pittsburgh. But a guy who has an ERA 2.45 with 11 out of 11 save chances, who could be available cheaply, should be looked at. Who even says Wagner is going to be available anyway? Philly can turn it around with the players they've got. Also Wagner is a FA after this season, if we give up some uber prospects for him, and he doesn't resign, it's the Freddy Garcia trade gone bad. Since we didn't get Vizquel, It only makes sense to get Mesa. Seriously though, 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox > Brian Anderson
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:12 AM) I love the idea of trading for Wagner if we need him by the deadline. He would bump the rest of our relievers into a less stressful role. I don't think I could stomach it if we have to give up B-Mac or Brian Anderson though. I'd be fine giving up Sweeney and other prospects though. Hopefully, not too many teams will be bidding for wagner. The cubs may try to get him if they're not 15 games back by July . Another closer who may be available would be Jose Mesa . I think he would f*** up all our team chemistry. But...... Since Vizquel did f*** us over , and Mesa wants to kill him, maybe we should get Mesa .
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) Agreed. Shingo should be facing 1 or 2 right-handed batters in non-critical situations from now on. Vizcaino should be doing the same versus lefty batters. And Hermanson should be closing with Politte and Marte setting up for him. I think Viz scares me more than shingo I see kenny pulling a deal off ( everyone knows he will) I like hermanson as closer. But with someone like wagner our bullpen would be very deep. Hermanson would not be limited to closing (because we may need him for spot starts down the road)
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 01:54 AM) Throwing first, second, and sometimes even third pitch balls doesn't help either. He's "showing the batter his whole arsenal before trying to get him out," as Hawk would say. I would not mind throwing shingo in certain situations. just not save situations, or game on the line situations. How many games do we have to lose to show ozzie not to use him late? 3,4, 5 Games? That will hurt ,especially since I think the division will be decided by 5 games or less.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) Shingo has given up 5 HR's in 9 IP. I know 3 of them came in one game but that's pretty bad. He only gave up 6 HR's last season in 62.1 IP. Methinks the scouting report is out on Shingo. shingo has proven to re-adjust his game when players figured him out back in Japan. I think he can do it but, it will take a while. I will definately miss the gong show. He just doesn't have it.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) They will just walk Frank to get to Konerko or Dye. Its not like they are pitching around Dye and Konerko, they have been challenging them. The won't walk him with runners on. If they do paul and dye or carl better do something. :banghead

rolen is definately worth that money.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) Royals fans (what little there are) have wanted this guy gone for awhile now. I guess he was making alot of bone-headed decisions. Royal fans consider their 83 win 03 season a success. :headshake

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:23 AM) Last year we had guys playing station to station, no clutch hits, and lots of solo homers. This year, guys are getting on and are in scoring position. Pods and Gooch have been on a lot. Our 3-4-5 guys have been brutal at best. Long looping swings. The inability to get the runners in from the power part of our lineup has been frustrating at best. Our two big boppers have been terrible at best. Konerko .200 BA With runners in scoring position he is batt .184 with 2 outs and men in SP .091 Dye .194 BA With runners in scoring position he is batting .100 with 2 outs and men in SP .154 We are going to have a hard time beating good teams if our 3-4-5 hitters dont start producing at least a little. BTW Minnys the grinding clutch team. They are batting .330 with men in scoring position and .293 with 2 outs and men on. Our numbers are better than KC, Oakland and Cleveland though. We need to really pick it up when we get men on. Its one thing to get a guy on first, bunt him over and having him come in on a single. But when we get men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. We need to get both of those runs in. Not just get one. We need to extend and get the big inning and put teams out of it. Or at least take some pressure off of our pitching staff. I expect things to change when Frank gets back.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 11, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) If he can close out games fine or not we need another reliever brought in. Both vizcaino and shingo are very not good thus far. agreed. Closer is not the problem as much as bullpen depth is.
