QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 6, 2005 -> 01:58 AM) June 12, 2000 when the Sox won the first of a three game set in Cleveland 8-7. I'm sure many of you remember what happened the next two days in Cleveland and the four days after that in New York. I remember. Joses grand slam to beat the spankmes in New york. Wasn't that off el duque? The next day on monday (home game against the indians the sox got a standing O from the sell-out crowd) the streak snapped on tuesday, I think Thome had 2 homeruns that game. what a great year !

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 01:11 AM) Sox had an era of 4.59 in the first half. Sox had an era of 5.26 in the second half. The sox are actually tied for 6th all time homeruns in one season. Toronto would have to score 71 earned runs vs us 2mrrw for our team era to reach 5.26

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) We scored plenty of runs while they were out. I think we should blame it on the overall team era first and foremost, i mean it was nearly five. Can't really expect to win enough games to get into the playoffs with s***ty pitching like that. Actually the pitching was upgraded when they went down. The pitching in the second half should have been better than the 1st half pitching. Let's just say, last year made no sense. I still don't understand how we got 242 HRS. Which I think is 5 th best in mlb history?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 6, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) Isn't Hunter Hillemeyer one of the starting LB'ers right now? Yeah. most likely..........HE GONE!
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:59 AM) Sox ranked third is runs scored last year and tied for the league leading amount of homeruns with the yankees (242). Which by the way was a franchise record for the white sox. I wouldn't say we struggled much. yeah, but we were winning until they went down.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:53 AM) Ummm, how long did we really even have Magg$ last season? The Carlos Lee argument is valid though. it hurt our offense last year when maggs and frank went down. remember those twin killings in april last year? sox scored double digets so many times with those 2 together.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:50 AM) Deal. Really, all I was doing was was offering a differing opinion. I think too over the top sometimes. Its cool . If all of our personalties at soxtalk were the same... it would be like talking to yourself
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) LOL, I can forgive guys that hit .310 35 110 .900 But man, you wouldn't think losing Carlos and Maggs would hurt the offense that much, but yowza Frank will help. In the long run pauly will be better. I just worry about him. If he doesn't get in that season long funk in 03 I say we win the division.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) I didn't criticize you in any way. I just think that this idea is so "out there" that there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of it happeneing. eric chavez we'll just agree to disagree

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:46 AM) I heard he is allergic to dogs. for a world series kw would live in a f***ing kennel
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) I do not like that. Sounds like about a zillion GIDP's. I guess you don't miss mags then?
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:42 AM) LOL KW would have extra duties then
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:39 AM) From a White Sox perspective, this is still ... and I'll say it again ... illogical. Chavez would only cost BMac, Crede, Anderson-Sweeney and 44 Million dollars. Ok thats fine. Just my opinion. What was I thinking posting my opinion on a message board? If the white sox think small , they will get small returns. I won't dare have world series dreams . silly me

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:38 AM) Where did anyone get the idea that Chavez is even tradeable? It's not just like pick and choose at the trading deadline if one team is in contention and another is not. Crede absolutely does not fit the Billy Beane formula and just doesn't make sense in Oakland. Sure it would be nice if we had Chavez but Polanco is a much more realistic bet. I would rather have crede over polanco. Everyone is tradeable for the right price. We would have to give up A LOT. But even Eric Chavez is tradeable.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) I am not understanding this Chavez talk, quite honestly. Why would you give up a huge package for one of the best 3Bman in the league when you already have a decent 3Bman who is decent with the glove and is still relatively cheap? I figure if you add a big time closer around the deadline in say, Billy Wagner, who I have mentioned before, you then have a top pitching staff in the majors, and quite honestly, I am not sure if there is a better pitching staff in the majors. Probably the best bullpen, probably a top 3 rotation, and a 1-2-3 that has been outstanding thus far...that like almost equals a playoff team and perhaps even a World Series team. One can only hope the Phillies continue to suck I like the closer Idea. I just feel our O is what needs the upgrade. Crede would be the odd man out because I cant think of any other place in the offense to upgrade. Dye can be replaced by everett, catchers have been great. as great as crede is doing it would be a HUGE upgrade to get Chavez.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) We should have a seperate forum for everybody who goes to an espn thread, or an attendance thread, to b**** and complain abouth there being another thread but continue to contribute to the thread by adding post after post... we need an espn/attendence forum

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:18 AM) His salary would not be off the books for the next four years. He averages 11 million a year, that is not what i would consider '' a few million'' Adding chavez is would be a bad idea unless we dumped another huge salary else where ( which is doubtful). If we got him it would be obvious we would not re-sign Pauly. Probably have gload and chavez at the corners in 06. With added WS revenue though that could open payroll up a little.

I just realized, we completely Hijacked this thread

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) Joe crede b-mac and one of anderson/sweeney and i am not even kidding when saying that. I agree qwert. It would hurt. It would not hurt as much in October.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) First off we are not gonna add that much payoll. Two three million is the most i can realistically see. You really think the a's are gonna pick up any of his salary? How many third baseman do you know that have won four gold gloves in their whole career let alone by the age of 27? He is also left handed which is always an added bonus. Did i mention he is a three hole hitter? He hasn't even entered his prime yet... he isn't going any where any time soon. Like I said if he is picked up at the AS break , half his salary is off the books. JR's team is off to the best start in Franchise history. He has a team that can go far, very far. A few million is what seperates him from the WS? I dont think that's an issue. I Know everything their is to know about Eric Chavez. I did not need your scouting report. I am sorry if I feel we have enough talent in our system to get him. We may get raped, but We have enough. Crede, Bmacc, Sweeney, the list goes on. I love our system. But if that seperates us from the ultimate goal you go for it.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:05 AM) You are ignoring the part about Chavez being the man that Beane wants to build his team around. You are generalizing with your small market talk. Beane has already made the decision that he'll keep Chavez. I mean, Tejada is a stud and Beane choose Chavez over Tejada. Does that give any indication of the value Beane places on his stud 3b? I know the value he has in chavez. But when you put a deal on the table that is White sox trade package > chavez then you have to listen. If a gm asked Beane what would it take to get Chavez, would he really say he is untouchable? That means their is no trade beane would listen to, even if the A's are coming on top 10 fold?
-
QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ May 6, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) Isn't Crede a free agent with Boras as an agent? Does Beane deal with him, cause didn't Kenny say he wouldn't? Borass is his agent. Not sure how beane's relationship is with him though.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 5, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) They really f***ed themselves over with that payroll of theirs. They're stuck with a bunch of overpaid bums now and nobody is gonna take any of these guys in a trade or anything like that without sticking the Spanks with a huge chunk of the salary. I consider Arod, Matsui, Sheffiled,Rivera, and Jeter great players. the rest are old, over paid bums. The first 5 I mentioned are over paid but are actually good players.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ May 5, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) I hope you're not suggesting B-mac? It would most definitely take him to get a player the caliber of Chavez. thats exactly what Im thinking. I would rather not. But to get someone like chavez that would be the only route. You know how Kenny thinks.... 1917
