QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 08:44 PM) I feel like a 6 year old on Christmas Eve. Getting Griffey would be like getting the Turtle Bus, back in the day. Man, I loved that toy. I also had the Blimp, but mine had pieces of duct tape over all the holes that somehow found their way on it after about 3 days...

Nick is missing out on cashing in on nostalgia. They'll catch on soon. Maybe they're waiting 'til we hit our 30's and have more disposable income. But won't that be too late? Will they find a way? Am I thinking about this way too much at 2 am?

Fine, I'll combine the 2 topics running through this thread, since it actually does apply to me... Figure It Out... and... Summer Sanders I was about 13-14 and would watch that show on Nick when I got home from school. I thought she was just so hot (Ok, still do...) at the time. From what I remember, she seemed a lot more natural and interesting (and just as hot) on-camera than she does now on that sports list show now. Or maybe, I was just too blinded by my crush...

The Continuing Decline & Fall of Mark Buehrle
SleepyWhiteSox replied to C.Rector's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) I don't. I was obviously wrong. We have no one who can shut them down. Our pitching is overrated. Probably because of the poor offenses we faced in our own division. It's obvious our pitching isn't as good as advertised. All I know is that come playoff time, I wouldn't bet on a White Sox advancement. Oh, please... :headshake -

QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) Gimme a f***ing break. Horrendous pitching and bad fielding. Ozzie did nothing wrong. I wouldn't of had Buehrle starting the 7th, but oh well. Ortiz killed Jenks fastball and that's what you get for walking Renteria. Yep. -

We were expecting to see Jenks in more pressure situations. I'm not even upset about it. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) Really is mind-boggling, isn't it? He trusts our starters more than he does our relievers. As great as our starters have been this year, our big 3 relievers of Cotts/Cliff/Dustin have been 3 of the best in baseball. Nevermind that Cliff hasn't been as solid as of late, Dustin has a bad back, or that all 3 have been worked fairly heavily... -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) Why is it following every win someone can point out how our team is destined for greatness, but following a defeat, no one can criticize any facet of our ballclub without hearing someone use the same rhetoric (best record in baseball, etc). Funny, I've yet to see anyone bit their tongue when it comes to critcising any of our players on here. Refer to the thousands upon thousands of posts that criticize and bash the team after a loss...or close win...or bad play...or bad quote...or new hairstyle...etc... -

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Whatever you do, don't get Game 1 Tix. Chances are Mark Buehrle will choke. Garland, this year's AL Cy Young winner, will get the Game 1 win.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) I just think the date failed to work out for many of us that wanted to attend. Maybe an earlier outing could be arranged next year. Price may have been a factor too. A company-sponsored patio party I'm going to is 20 bucks, less than half of this one. I think they coulda done a little better than just 10 bucks off the original price, which is what I think it states on the order form...

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) Sleepy, no one here said they could do any better, no one is trying. I think that's meant for ss2k5. He issued the challenge, not me. I completely agree. Nobody said they could do better nor will they be trying to. I just want to point out that I was just giving my opinion on the matter, not necessarily bashing. I think saying if you like or don't like something is fair game, but sometimes it does become bashing when it's out-of-line, and that's uncalled for. -
I can't help but feel there was still a little bit left in him for us, despite what he was showing us... I guess it's just because he was so darned likeable. Didn't wanna see him go just yet, but it's probably for the best.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Is she a writer? Or is she someone who started a blog and because of the talent she exhibited was asked to contribute elsewhere? And of course you're entitled to your opinion, just as others reserve the right to express their opinion of yours. However if you want your views to hold any weight then providing more than just stating something is stupid and ridiculous would help. Yeah, she's a writer. And as for an example, her boone article comes to mind... -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Of course it is a silly challenge because no one here can do better. And of course, that's the point. If its so easy, how come none of you are doing anything better? If I were to go back and look through all of your posts, I'm sure I'd find a couple, or maybe even a few, negative comments about players, but I don't have 8 months of time to spare to go through all of your posts. What I thought was silly was you saying that we should not criticize someone because we probably can't do as good of a job. That's like the complete opposite of what soxtalk is. We criticize players ALL THE TIME, and I'm fairly confident in saying that almost none of us would be able to do a better job. Writing is her profession. She better be able to do a better than most of us average joe's, or else she'd probably have problems putting food on the table. -

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) And I would like to keep feeling it for years to come Actually I would like to take this chance to issue a challenge to those who think Bat-girl is somekind of a no-talent clown. I want any of your to start your own blog, post the link here, and out do her. I want to see something original and funny, just like she does. If anyone of you can come up with something better, I will accept you talking bad about her abilities. Until then, this is your official challenge to put up or shut up. Silly challenge. I'll make the same challenge to you or anyone that ever insults any baseball player on here to go out and work your way the Big Leagues and do a better job. Writing is her job; it's her profession. Writers get criticized. If you are in a profession that places you in the public eye and counts on the acceptance of an audience in order to be successful, expect criticism from those that don't like your style of doing what you do. I reserve my right to not like her batgirl writings. In my opinion, she's a decent writer, just not when it comes to sports. She crosses the line from witty to stupid and ridiculous in most of the things I've read. Again, my opinion. -

QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) Did anybody else notice who hates hawks call. I just tought that it was kind of funny. "I'm sorry, but I can't stand Harrelson. Not only are his catchphrases really stupid, his commentary is the worst sort of homer chatter you can imagine. He insults the opposition, cheers on the Sox players, and sits silently brooding when something goes wrong. Give me Herb Carneal and "It's back, waaaaaay back, it's ... gone, touch 'em all!" -- Mike, St. Paul, Minn. (1:41 p.m.) I saw that but didn't bother to read where the person was from. It all makes sense now. I'm less annoyed that it's most likely a twinkie fan since they really have no business liking their rival's guys anyways. Thanx for catching that.
