Oh that's right, you got me on that one, and I was even THERE when Mags hit that one, in the right field seats no less. Methinks I might have had one too many that evening. I didn't run on the field, though, unlike many of my southside bretheren before me.
-
It was, however, encouraging to see that in the 7th or 8th inning last night, The Big Hip almost hit one out to right field. Would have been the first Sox home run to right field by a rightie since 1942.
-
Exactly, he started off slow, but he's as solid for .280-30-100 as anyone on the team, save Mags. Leave him and Jimenez alone, they'll be fine. I still say move Frank out of the 3-spot. He's just not productive enough anymore.
-
I say leave Jimenez alone. Every hitter is going to scuffle a bit during a season, you can't start jerking everyone around simply because they're going through a cold stretch. He keeps getting good looks, and still hits some pretty hard balls. He'll come around. This is what I'd like to see against rhp: Jimenez 2b Valentin ss Ordonez rf Konerko 1B Rios cf Thomas dh Lee lf Crede 3b Olivo/Alomar c

Tell you one thing, Manuel pulling Koch for Marte last night might have been his best move of the season. Now, if he would only move FT out of the 3-hole, he might save his job. Sure, Frankie's still walking a bunch, but you really need more production out of your 3 hitter. Move him down to 5 or 6, or maybe even up to leadoff, ala Jeremy Giambi. I would love to see how FT's stats compare to every other team's normal #3 hitter.

After witnessing the last two nights' performances, I would like to propose this as the official White Sox slogan: "White Sox Baseball.......Yawwwwwwnnnnnnnnn."

MOTHERF*CKING B*TCHASS DIPSHIT PASSIONLESS SOX!!!!

LOL cmon dude, anyone can twist numbers to support their point. The angels won the world series last year, and they had team speed. The yanks won many, and they had decent speed. The only truth in that entire paragraph is that Arizona lacked team speed. Well the sox dont have Randy and Curt. Also, i think youll be hard pressed to find many champions who finished last in steals, like the sox are going to. LOL, its amazing with what some come up with. I'm not twisting any numbers, they are what they are. Since 1996, here is where each year's WS winner ranked in terms of SB's: 1996: 26th 1997: 16th 1998: 4th 1999: 21st 2000: 13th 2001: 23rd 2002: 5th So, you have twice in the last 7 years where the champ even ranked in the top 10, and one of those temas was the 98 Yankees, which pretty much led the league in everything, and the 2002 Angels, who are obviously a fluke. Speed can help, but I sure don't think it's absolutely essential for a championship team, and the the numbers support that. -

Wow, what a thread. Simply amazing. A couple comments: 1) Speed is NOT a necessity to have a winning baseball team anymore. The top 4 teams in Sb's last year were Florida, KC, Seattle, and Montreal. Oakland finished dead last, and San Francisco finished 22nd. The DBacks in 2001 were about as slow as they come, and none of the great Yankees teams since 1996 were loaded with basestealers. Speed can win you games, but not titles. 2) I would not be surprised at all if Manuel gets fired should the Sox not post a respectable record after the Oakland and Seattle series'. This team is severely lacking focus, and that is one occasion where the manager is absolutely responsible. 3) I'm not sure if the Sox have no heart, but they sure are stupid. They make NO adjustments at the plate. How many times did you see a Sox player hit a check-swing roller against Mays the other night? When the TWins brought in Santana Saturday, he struck out about 4 guys on the same exact pitch--an inside changeup. Every pitcher in baseball knows that Frank won't swing at the first pitch--EVER. When a pitcher has your number, or things aren't going right because the same sequence of events keeps happening, CHANGE SOMETHING! Mix it up a bit, the worst thing you can be when you're a pro athlete is overly predictable--other pros can and will find ways to beat you if they know exactly what you're tendencies are. I guess that's my version of venting. Beat Oakland. -
Whoa, I've got to completely disagree with you here. in his first real test what did jimenez do???..wear the collar for the 3 games..o'fer the entire series... **He made a couple excellent plays in the field, and hit the ball HARD, even though he didn't have much to show for it. history with jimenez says he will cool off and drop back into the 240 -260 range and when he does he will be miserable...you just cant ignore this guys past.**What history? He only has about 1.5 seasons under his belt, most of it spent rehabbing a bad injury. This guy was once a higher-rated prospect with the Yankees than Soriano. As for the attitude problem, so he didn't get along with some guys on the friggin Padres, that's not much of a history. Lots of guys who are so-called "clubhouse cancers" have played in a lot of postseasons. That bad clubhouse guy rap is just a bunch of crap employed when all other excuses are used up. It's like blaming Royce Clayton's attitude for the Sox's record last year--completely ridiculous. I don't think I'll base my opinion on the guy because of some report out of Padres camp. Maybe those guys were the assholes? Just MHO.

When the top two candidates for AL Cy Young award winner are Runelvys Hernandez and Estaban Loaiza. That's when.
-
Loaiza = slimmer, righthanded, Hispanic, less annoying David Wells.
-
Good, Manuel pulled his sorry ass. Call us in 2 years, Jon.
-
I'm waiting for one milligram of proof that the Sox made out better in the Garland/Karchner swap. It's a wash as of now, the only silver lining being that Garland's only 23.
-
As I've said before, when DWright is ready, Garland goes to AAA. He's a horrible pitcher at this stage, and I don't care that he had a good outing last time out.. He is consistently getting tagged for 1st inning runs, gives up a ridiculous number of tw0 strike baserunners, and walks people at the worst times. He's abysmal right now.
-
Is Mr. Show back on? What channel? What time? What day?
-
And thank you, Mrs. Williams.
-
PLease, god, no. No Willie Harris, anything but that. He's a classic AAAA player--too good for AAA, not good enough for the big leagues. He's got blazing speed, great, so does Tom Goodwin.
-
Dude, that's not entirely fair. Don' get me wrong, your stereotyping maybe fun and all...but it's just that. I never denied anyone (cssox indluded) right to like anything they want and never considered myself to be all that smart. Heck, I am not college-educated, my IQ is probably about average, English not my first (or second) language and I am passionate about baseball. If anything I am Joe Average, but with a foreign twist (Having said that, I think Eminem is woefully overrated (at least with Britney and Co. you know exactly what are getting- a pre-packeged prima pop tart, I have no probs with that) for some of the reasons listed in other posts. I could be very much in the wrong, it goes without saying. ) I agree, it was absolutely unfair. I was just trying to rile the both of you up, because I honestly did enjoy reading both CW's and your posts. A little hostile debate gets me through many a drab workday.
-
I would add that we shouldn't forget that sometimes pitchers take longer to figure it out than other players. David Wells was a mediocre pitcher that became a very good one 5-6 years into his career. Same can be said for guys like Eddie Guardado(maybe), Jamie Moyer, even Randy Johnson. Obviously, nobody thinks Loaiza will keep up his current pace, but I think he'll probably get 10-12 wins, and have an ERA under 4.50. I think those numbers are fine for an AL 4th starter. Let's hope he keeps it up for as long as possible. Or, maybe, he IS the next DWells, just about 500 lbs. smaller.

From Oxford's: sarcasm /"s:kz()m/ noun ironically scornful remark(s). sarcastic /s:"kstk/ adjective. sarcastically /s:"kstkl/ adverb.

Wait, can't we get more of the Brando-Cw ongoing debate? Enough of the Carlos Lee enigma, the "I am obviously intellectually superior to all of you, and need to reflect that in every single post" of Brandofan vs. the "I like what I want, and I don't care that every sentence of every rap song wasn't crafted using AMA style, or 4th-grade grammar rules" of CWSox was some damn fine entertainment. I could have read 80 pages of that. Could we get it going again?

Chris George is a lefty, right?
-
Well, let's go over White Sox 3rd basemen over the last couple decades: Herbert Perry, Robin Ventura, Greg Norton, Wayne Tolleson!!!, Tim Hulett, Vance Law, Chris Snopek, etc... It should come as no surprise then that Joe Crede couldn't win a race against a Sox security guard with a churro in each hand.
-
Don't forget the Gordon bashing that was going on. Looked pretty good to me last night.
-
I disagree, the first game was a case of some bad defense, but wasn't looking all that good anyways. He still gets burned by too many tw0-strike baserunners, and it drives me crazy. It's an overreaction to say ship him to AAA, admittedly, but I don't have any faith in him at this point. At this point being the key phrase--I'm not saying give up on him entirely.
