  1. Funny how our catcher says that Thornton has a good slider, yet all the soxtalk experts say he has a s***ty breaking ball......
  2. QUOTE(bulokis @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 09:42 PM) I dont know why he is somewhat penciled to make the team? Is it because we traded for him? I dont want him to come North, he needs to work on his problems in the minors. Because he has no options left, and we would essentially just be giving Borchard away. Because of the promise of the kid, and the fact that Coop and KW like him, I would guess that they put him on the roster to at least get an extended look at him. Of course they could just let him go.
  3. Oh and the tatto that you picked out, with all the detail and coloring, may be a two day job. With something so intricate, I would recommend a well known artist in the area. In chicagoland people recommend jade Dragon, I like tatto city and the ink shop I believe is the other. Make sure you research that because that is some serious detail work.
  4. I have some ink done, and I dont regret it at all. My first was in the middle of my shoulders on my spine. It hurt like a bastard, but it wasnt too much to bear. If the tatoo represents something personal to you, you will only love it more. Also I cannot stress checking out an researching the artist/tattoo shop beforehand. You do not want to regret a tattoo because it was poorly done. A reputable artist is a must. The recovery process is simply, if its on your back, be prepared to ruin a few tshirts when you sleep at night, but other than that its cake. Make sure you use sunblock on it this summer, and you are all good. Im excited to get another one this summer, it really is addictive. I work in an executive office and I wear suits and meet with top professionals weekly. All in all, make sure you can conceal the ink if need be. Good luck, im sure you will love it.
  5. QUOTE(RexFives @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 09:04 PM) i would love to see liotta up with the team, hes got a bright future Definatley not ready yet. Its better to let him keep starting in the minors.
  6. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 06:42 PM) I was watching something on TV about it not too long ago and they basically said that it inhibits your ability to get any kind of "rush" from anything else. It basically sounded like a crack addict could jump out of a plane and feel no adrenaline rush at all... After your first high on coke, everytime you use thereafter, you are trying to reproduce that high. And every time you use it, the high gets less great. It sucks you in.
  7. QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 06:10 PM) Hofbrauhaus....is that the place in KY right on the other side of the river? If so I was there last september when I had to go to Cincy for a wedding....solid place and absolutely packed with chicks. The patio outside is perfect. You are correct sir, its packed like a trout pond with top notch ass. Great place to get s***ty. AWESOME outside patio.
  8. QUOTE(G&T @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 06:37 PM) He came out with good control over the fastball and should have been out of the inning immediately. He couldn't locate any breaking stuff so everyone easily hit the fastball. Here's the thing about him, it looks almost like the ball doesn't go as fast as the gun says. I can't explain that. He was in the mid-nineties, but it didn't seems like anyone was having any problem catching up. That couldnt be more wrong from what I saw. Mirabelli was 10 seconds late on 2 straight fastballs. The guy who hit the bomb guessed right and won. I thought his fastball looked great, just lost some location after several pitches.
  9. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) Alright then. I wasn't gonna get excited one way or another based on what happened today. So is his stuff as good as advertised? How was his velocity? He sawed off the first three batters with inside fastballs. After that he had some control problems. He has an electric fastball with decent movement. The homer was a 94 MPH fastball that was down, just moved over the middle of the plate. I think his stuff looks good, but he obviously has some flaws reproducing his mechanics.
  10. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) And we're still waiting for Cooper to make him an effective pitcher. Losing 10 mph off his fastball didnt help.
  11. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) Let's see ex-Sox gas can Jon Adkins give this game back to us. Jon "Sack Lunch" Adkins is the man though. Great guy.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:59 PM) :finger :finger You know I was agreeing with you, right?? Yeah, it just presented itself, and I couldnt resist.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) I'm an idiot to judge a trade after 1 day. Fixed for ya Tony
  14. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) I hope so but Cooper can't fix a Marte-esque mentality of falling apart on the mound when things go bad. If Thornton has that, Cooper won't be able to help him. This is the first time he has appeared with this team. Im willing to give him another shot. The first three batters looked pretty helpless against him.
  15. Im going to disagree with everyone and say that Thornton was a good pickup. I think the guy needs a small tweek. He basically sawed off the first three guys he faced. After the error he fell apart a bit, but before it, he looks as good as anyone. A little more coaching and he could be something. Logan is still better though.
  16. Thornton has a good fastball, nice movement, and better control than I thought. He does need to fix his approach however. If he could throw a 96 mph fastball for first pitch strikes, then locate a few breaking balls, thats all we would need.
  17. another good pitch by Matt, bloop hit just in front of Dye.
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Rock, love the Mt. Adams Bar and Grill, so does the wife. Even better on Mt. Adams ... City View Tavern on Oregon St., down the small hill from Rookwood Pottery. Cheesburgers, mettwurst, cold beer, a terrific jukebox, and a great view of the city, hence it's name. A hidden gem. http://www.greatjoints.com/bar.php?id=41 Also for those looking for the (20-something) ladies, Longworth Pavilion in the Mt. Adams area. They have three separate bars in that place, take your pick based on what kind of music you like. German food ... Mecklenberg Gardens in the Clifton area. Quick and cheap ... Cincinnati chili ... Goldstar, Skyline, Camp Washington. There is also the Samuel Adams Brewery on Central Parkway, just north of downtown, don't know if they give tours. It used to be the Schoenling Brewery (Little Kings and Hudepohl). 1625 Central Parkway if memory serves. The 12th and Main area is pretty good too right Rock? Neon's, Japps, etc. But don't wander around too far. We love the Barrelhouse Brewery in that area. GREAT picks there. I prefer Goldstar to skyline but to each his own. Longworth is a good joint, there are several bars up there that I used to frequent. You cant really go wrong up there. As long as you try and stay away from the UC area and the west side, everything is pretty good. I like to stay in Newport if im going to be drinking because there are alot of bars in the area, and a Dave and Busters copycat place called Jillians I believe. All in all, Cincy is a great city, I will be there for sure, and I look forward to hanging out at that great stadium. If anyone wants to shoot through Oxford Oh, home of Miami University on the way home, I can provide directions and recommendations.
  19. BTW, the beer at hofbrauhaus is amazing. This is a good fall beer Hofbräu Seasonal: “Weizenbock” (7.8 % Alc. by Volume) …. Specialty in November Brown in color and malty in taste. All of the full bodied rich flavors of a Doppelbock with the signature banana and clove esters of a Weizen.
  20. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) Thats the one bad part of the show... once you make the change you can never go back. Personally once they actually escape I think the show is going to start getting worse. Thats what I thought too. But if it goes into a fugitive type format, that might actually be pretty good.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Mar 21, 2006 -> 10:12 AM) Rock is referring to the Montogmery Inn Boathouse, located on the Ohio River bank, just a few minutes away from Great American Ballpark, ribs/steaks : http://www.montgomeryinn.com Hofbrauhaus is a big German style brewpub across the river in Kentucky, in the Newport Landing area of Newport, right on the river, lots to do there: http://www.hofbrauhausnewport.com/ And then there is my personal favorite, the oldest saloon in Cincinnati, Arnold's Bar and Grill, 210 E. 8th St. downtown Cincinnati, 5 mins. from the ballpark: http://www.arnoldsbarandgrill.com I believe we have had some long chats regarding great places in cincy. I lived there for around 5 years, and my sister still lives there. I love cincy, and there are many great places to eat and hang out. I know during the day one of those days I will head up to Mt adams bar and grill to get a great burger, and i know I will make my way back up rt 27 to Oxford for a Bagel.
