QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) I think Anderson will have a better rookie season than Reed. Not defensively, but offensively, yes.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 01:53 PM) Talk to the students' whose assignments that you wanna use. And then take their names off em, if they give you their ok. Thats a pretty good idea right there. If it was me, thats what I would do. Your career is important.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 01:52 PM) And what's the point? I just said I'm not arguing that pitchers aren't at their best during spring training; I'm arguing that Jenks is beyond just "getting back into shape", he hasn't been "marginally bad", he's been terrible. Furthermore, he "terribleness" is even more concerning because he's still sucking a week before camp breaks. I think a good analogy is the 3rd preseason game in FB. Sure, it's still preseason, but you don't want the 1st unit to stink it up in the 1st half. Is spring training mostly meaningless: of course. Are pitchers less than 100% velocity and control wise: of course. I'm a worried about Jenks: of course--why shouldn't I be? Every other pitcher on the Sox (other than my new Timo--Thornton) that is expected to make the roster has shown me something good--Jenks hasn't at all. Did you just start watching spring training this year? Last year our pitching was horrendous in ST. Other pitchers ST stats this year: D Turnbow 11.37 ERA D Davis 14.40 J Suppan 8.20 Sabathia 6.38 R Ortiz 8.15 B Backe 7.79 M Mussina 8.04 J Bonderman 5.93 P byrd 5.68 B Arroyo 10.03 D Riske 11.57 Aj Burnett 9.00 J Blanton 9.58 B Radke 6.75 E Bedard 7.59 Are you worried about all of these guys as well. This is just a small sample of pitchers who produce and have high ST numbers. It means jack s***. Jenks has a 7.88 this spring.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) Yea, well let me rephrase the the question: What Sox pitcher is still pitching 4-5 mph below their velocity from last year 8 days until the season starts? All of the ones I just mentioned. BMAC barely hit 90 his last outing, Mark is still throwing Mid eighties most of the time. Its spring training, why would they throw their hardest right now?

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) Triple black BMW 325xi. One of the coolest things is that Sirius is built into the car radio. Sirius? Traitor

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) Cruz would be a nice addition since he'd at least give us another power arm, but I'd be interested to see what the real price is. Anderson clearly won't happen, but would we give up Fields, Sweeney, or Broadway? Those seem to be our few remaining bargaining chips in the minors. I'd give up Broadway in a heartbeat.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) What other Sox pitcher that was on the team last year and is reported healthy has experienced a drop off in velocity of 4-5 mph? Nobody. There are only 8 days until the season starts. It's time for Jenks to get his act together. Off the top of my head, Polite, Buehrle, Garcia, Vazquez, Cotts, Contreras, BMAC, Garland have all thrown under their top velocities in spring training.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) I trust what you're saying, and I also trust my own eyes. Hitters aren't just barely making contact on his heater like they were doing last year. There's no life on his fastball yet. There's still time for him to get it back, but we have less than 10 days until the games start. Paging Brad Lidge....paging Brad Lidge. Paging Brad Lidge huh? If you base your value of players on their spring training games so much why would you mention a pitcher who has thrown 2 innings so far this ST? Heres a lesson: In the title "spring training" the most important word is "training." Meaning getting ready for the real action.

Werent we already interested in Cruz? Then we heard the price tag?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 10:57 AM) I think I needed to hear it from a national reporter for it to really hit home, but, Jayson Stark cut through to me yesterday on ESPN Radio 1000's Silvy and Carmen--my new best friends, . He said, a flame-throwing youngster doesn't make it to the waiver wire for no reason. So quick to forget Bobby's troubles in the past, I think we still have to realize this is all foreign to Bobby. This is the first time in his career he is really being depended on--especially on such a grand stage--and he may not realize the work it is going to take to stay on top here. He has all the talent in the world, but, if he can't grasp how hard he needs to work here, he may be one of those time-honored sad stories in baseball. We all grew to love Bobby after he closed out the best season in Chicago White Sox history, but, we have to remember Bobby's appearence on the waiver wire did happen for a reason and he still is a question mark between the ears. Luckily, if anyone can push Bobby to succeed in the right environment, it's our skipper. Well there were a few flame throwers who made it to waivers. Turnbow for example looks to be settling in the closer role as well.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 10:33 AM) You mean Colon has to wear a gown, right? He might.....

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 10:19 AM) Never. He's adapted. Just like Colon. Colon has grown alot too.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Mar 24, 2006 -> 10:14 AM) unfortunately me minding my own business doesn't edit your personal attacks which ruined a good thread. back on subject, I don't see any reason why the team would lie about him hitting 94 on the gun. The guy threw a pitch 102 mph last season. Saying that he's throwing 94 isn't exactly a good thing, certainly negligibly better than saying he's hitting 92 on the gun. The sCRUBS, which somehow were used in comparison, say that a pitcher is fine despite the fact he hasn't thrown off a mound a month into spring training. Not exactly the same as "lying" about an extra 2MPH off a fastball. I'm expecting Jenks to struggle in april but I think he'll be fine by may. That gives him about a month to get the weight off and warm up his surgically repaired arm. Hopefully Cotts is up to the task of closing a few times until then. Get the weight off? Who the hell do you think you are talking about here? I guarantee you NO weight has to be shed or will be shed. When in his career has he been "in shape." Im sure it didnt effect his velocity then huh? He is building up his velocity and arm strength, its spring TRAINING for s*** sake. Of course he isnt throwing his hardest yet.

Soxtalk word of the day: Fat Slob
-
I cant believe everyone is arguing about his conditioning and whatnot. The guy is a fat slob, he was last year, the year before, and the year before. s***, he was even an alcoholic slob at one point. This all never effected his veolocity. He is building up thorugh camp. They havent used him all that much, and when he has pitched, hes been working on different pitches. Almost every pitcher we have is throwing a little lighter, even Mark. Its like people have never seen spring training before.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 23, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) This is the main reason it was a mistake to acquire him in the first place, IMO. Whatever Jabroni. Is it better to bank on a chance of this guy making the team, or Joe Borchard? They are both as worthless as s***, we just needed pitching more.

You are very correct sir. Lopez is a decent back up, Thornton is garbage so far. Tim Redding could fill the role if he keeps improving.
-
3 straight change ups to end the game.
-
Lopez walks a batter, go ahead run up to bat.
-
Lopez retires the first two on groundouts to 3B. Seriously though, he likes getting behind the hitters.
-
Lopez in to close it out. Up to bat: Jamie Burke.
