  1. sullivan is an interesting guy - he's largely credited for helping Eli take the next step forward in NY, and helped Josh freeman-Vjax and doug martin to have a pretty nice year this year. I still prefer McCoy probably, and Arians being 60 years old scares me a little bit. As much as anything, I think an understated issue is the question of who will these guys bring in as coordinators?? I know Emery said in his presser that if the HC isn't able to get his guy for whatever reason, that the current coaching staff could remain. I'd be fine with Marinelli staying (in fact that may be preferable), but I can't see Tice being brought back in any form
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) He is not my preference, I actually really want McCoy now that I have been reading these stories about him. I just think getting Gruden wouldnt be the worst thing in the world, but he is not my #1 i think mccoy is the favorite right now. the very first report we heard about coaching requests was for McCoy. Presumably, the bears got permission, and what was the next news we heard? That the bears were then trying to set up Keith Anderson, which would satisfy the rooney rule.
  3. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) We'll see if he's more reliable than Adam "95% sure Reid to Cardinals" Schefter. yeah, i cant say i have been following this too closely, but an article on espn suggested that yesterdays talks (or lack there of) were in no way heading toward an agreement http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/8811312/...ba-talks-danger
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) Well one of the things I have never really understood about our offensive playcalling is why we don't ever seem to be able to 1) call a slant or 2) execute a slant successfully. Green Bay runs a crapload of slants and other quick inside crossing routes that allow Rodgers to get rid of the ball quickly. They also roll him out quite a bit more than the Bears roll Cutler out. Now it's pretty clear that Rodgers is better on the run than Cutler (and probably the best in the League, honestly), but we just never seemed to call the offensive game according to the limitations of our offensive line (outside of that Dallas game last year and maybe a few other instances I am not recalling). So I agree with your general point, but I don't think that is a Cutler issue, as he has shown a really incredible ability to avoid pressure within the pocket and he has shown he can really be athletic when he gets outside of the pocket. I think it is more of a failure of our coaching staff to design and/or call the correct plays to try and deal with a subpar offensive line. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) no doubt that some of these offensive issues are what plagued the bears this year. for the past 3 years the bears have run offensive schemes that simply require good pass blocking from the offensive line. Both Martz's offense and Tice's were predicated on a more vertical passing game, down the field, deeper drop backs. for an team with a bad offensive line, there must be adaptability in using the quick hitter to the middle of the field (and emery said as much in his press conference). The only time I really recall the play calling changing in favor of quick 3 step drops is the Dallas game when they had Omiyale playing LT, then Martz went back to his old ways. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) ha, I completely missed that in your original post. we are on the exact same wavelength if you ask me, the stubborn minded offensive coordinators lovie has had is what did him in - they were incapable/unwilling to adapt, and simply wanted to run their own system, which frankly didn't work. I know Lovie's philosophy defensively is "we are going to do what we do" , and while that philosophy worked for the D, it certainly didn't (and IMO can't) on offense. need to be able to change based on what the opponent is doing, and based on your own personnel Dan Pompei tweeted this - which is just about the perfect response to this above issue.... This is why I think Broncos OC Mike McCoy might be in the pole position for the Bears' head coaching job: McCoy is an outstanding candidate. He has been prepared by a fine head coach in John Fox. He understands offensive football and how to put players in position to succeed. He is young but can command a room. And McCoy is a flexible strategist. We had a talk about his philosophies awhile back. He told me, “I learned from Dan Henning a long time ago that if the quarterback doesn’t like something, or he can’t do it, you eliminate that from the game plan. Same with the running game. If there are schemes up front that our offensive line runs better, why try to force feed something else? I always say I don’t care what we want to do, but what can our players do well? That’s where it all starts.” Whoever is hired as head coach will be able to hire his own defensive coordinator and special teams coach. New head coaches usually bring in their own people for key positions. Ask Dan

  7. Bears asked permission to interview packers OC and former qb coach Tom Clements. Obviously has done some nice things, but he's 59 - seems a bit old to start your first gig as a HC
  8. Absolutely love just about everything I have heard from Emery. Dude is smart , to the point, no bulls***. Giving good justification on his draft picks, and moves so you can at least see what his thought process is/was.
  9. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter Arizona and Chicago have asked for and received permission to interview Broncos OC Mike McCoy for their HC job. Will interview this weekend. probably a hire the bears wouldn't be able to make until the broncos are eliminated, which could be after the super bowl
  10. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) Alex Marvez ‏@alexmarvez #Falcons special teams coach Keith Armstrong set for head coaching interviews with Kansas City & Chicago, a source tells @FOXSports.com that will satisfy the rooney rule if nothing else for the bears
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 03:45 PM) You cant judge a draft in the first year. especially a draft that was scouted by the angelo scouts and system. people said when he was hired, that Emery had very little to do with last years draft, and its this year that will be Emerys first true draft
  12. briggs was very very good this year hester wants to retire - furious about smith being fired. just like returning punts - somehow i don't see him going forward with that
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2012 -> 11:17 AM) David Kaplan Tremendously well connected source tells me this AM that even had GB won Smith would have been fired if Bears did not make deep playoff run silvy said the same thing on am 1000 - said decision was made last week in arizona and frankly im glad this is the case, couldn't let outcome of GB game make your decision Bears are in need of overhaul. offensively they need a coach who is ready for 2013, not someone coaching a style from the mid 90s (tice, turner) or late 90s (martz)
  14. NFL network says lovie met with management and he is fired.
  15. @AdamSchefter: Whoa: Bears have sent out consent forms requesting permission to interview head-coaching candidates.
  16. @RapSheet: #Bears assistants are freaking out inside the building. Coach Lovie Smith's status is "not looking good." Decision time for #Bears.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) I don't think anyone would call me one of the meathead Bears fans, and I'm in on this. The Bears need to restart. I'd hate to think that lovies job should come down to the ineptitude of their biggest rival, so you really have to ask yourself would he have been fired if the packers won and bears lost in first round? Whatever the answer is, I hope it's the same as it is now. That said, I love lovie's defense, but he's a BAD head coach and they need to make a change
  18. Everyone talks about the bears "soft" schedule, 8 of their games were against playoff teams and potentially 9 if the cowboys win
  19. Really??.?.? What the f*** were you exoecting
  20. Um did the packers not get the memo that Christian ponder is horrendous
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 30, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) Ballsy and I love it. The Vikings didn't expect the quick snap at all, no where close to ready, an easy first down. I used to think the biggest difference between GB and the bears was the qb, but its the HC now IMO
  22. Megatron vs peanut - 4 catches and 53 yards per game Vs rest of NFL - 7.8 catches 127.6 yards per game
