    Whoa

    Margie Gundersson =
  2. Yep. Give Billy Beane 15 Mill and he will ressurect Yeeesooosss. And I don't know what our Brazeeelian brother is talking about -- If Everett's 840 OPS is nothing special, then how is Magglio's 930 worth 4 times more? And Jeremy Reed thoroughly out-hit one Joe Mauer when they played in AA. With his eye and coordination, I don't see what's so ureachable about 820 OPS. Finally....Edgar will have 850 OPS in a hitter's park (USCF) when he is 50. [/slight exaggeraton]
  3. Don't want him even if he was available. Nor is Phillies' situation in ANY way comparable to that of Blu Jz -- NLE is wide open while ALE is NOT. And for the record....I didn't mean dealing for him in April. More like early June, before the rest have a chance to bid. Personal attacks notwithstanding, Toronto Blue Jays will have as much chance to compete with Yankees, Carmines and O's 2 months from now as they do today.
  4. And....? Detroit will be out of it by June. Eugie supposedly wouldn't mind playin' for Ozzie. He was lights out down the stretch with Florida -- something liek 1.50 ERA in the second half. Him, Politte and Marte (with Wunsht as a specialist) = World Series quality BP.
  5. How about you get the f*** off my back all nice-like? Deal?
  6. Me? Hell yeah -- if only out of monetary concerns. Almost 3 Mill left over could be used on someone like Urbina about a month from now. And then there's the matter of 9 Mill in 2005.
  7. What is it about 4th place that says "competitive"?
  8. How about if Sox throw in Yofu and Mcarthy as well?
  9. Let's get real here: Halladay isn't exactly cheap long-term AND the market no longer rewards pitchers like Apprier with 13 Mill contracts, It's not like I am asking for Vernon Wells here. Will he do it for Pacheco, Diaz AND Wing?
  10. Call me crazy, but I would do this deal in a second. Perez sucking = lower value Paulie hitting = greater value Perez was absolutely lights out in ST -- something like 1.00 ERA with 22 K and 2 BB.
  11. You're probably right. Still, better to deal with him than with Billy Beane when it comes to Timbo Hudson.
  12. Assuming the "having money" part is true (and we don't really know), it still doesn't change the fact that Sox do not spend. 50 Mill last year was laughable.
  13. Come on, he clearly meant "spend enough to win". Cubs spend the money. Sox don't.
  14. When it comes to the playoffs....pitching, pitching and more pitching. Delgado is nice and all, but too expensive and is a hitter -- we have those.
  15. He doesn't make a lot this year, and if he brings the Sox to the promised land....well, I am getting carried away here. Let's just say, Sox won't be stuck with him because he'll always have value for teams like the Dodgers and Red Sox. Throw them Wing and Pacheco and they can suck it. They aren't exactly in the position to dictate s***. No on Reed and Cotts and Sweeney.
  16. They are 1-6 and on the way to 4th place. They are losing money.
  17. You have a point. Then again, I am just throwing out ideas. I am not naive as to think that JR gives a f*** -- but say he did give a f*** this year, then Halladay will be just an excellent pick-up.
  18. No, Anderson isn't worth more than Maggs -- but the opposite is probably true is well. That was my point. And Anderson is a Gold Glove-caliber LF'er while Maggs is only a hair-above average in right -- his range is not what it used to be IMO, and in the last couple of years, his arm has been pretty average/erratic. Plus, as you said, Anderson can play a tolerable CF.
  19. Sox need a bona-friggin-fied ACE if they are to challenge for the World Series title, we all agree on that. Well with all this Randy Johnson talk (he is very old and very expensive and possibly injured), how can I not see this guy: --Makes only 6 Mill this year, so with good prospects won't cost much --I am sure Toronto won't deal him to Boston; Sox snaggin' him also prevents the Cubs from getting their grubby paws on him as a Prior replacement -- I am sure Hendry already drew up the plans of dealing for him. --Halladay-Buerhle-Loaiza-Garland as playoff rotation is something I can get behind. He is better than guys like Millwood or Washburn, struggling right now so his value may not be quite as high as it would be later on.
  20. North = black hole of sports radio; makes Mariotti seem almost credible/competent. Oh and someone might want to tell him Frank Sinatra he is not. :puke
  21. Next time choose a different sport. GOOOOOOOOLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
  22. It cost them nothing. What are you talking about? The time to spend was YESTERDAY when Sox REALLY needed. Then, by the virtue of playoff dough and increased season ticket base alone, he could still afford a 60+ Mill payroll in 2004. There is a symbiotic relationship of sorts between seasons. Last year, Sox f***ed up as they never f***ed up before. Everyone still bvitches about 1997 even though Indians had a superior team last time I checked the numbers. In 2003, Sox were IT. Just a little infusion of daugh early on would have gone a LONG way toward making the season unqualified success. And if you're impressed with 65 Mill this year, I guess it would be perfect time to remind you that the AL average is 70 Mill. Still impressed?
  23. He was never an MVP-type player, save for 2002.
