Cards to keep Carpenter through 2011
Melissa1334 replied to CardsJimEdmonds15's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) 1 down, 1 to go. This is awesome. haha, yes. >this is a very good move for the cards, for obvious reasons. -
"Possibility: Crawford to White Sox for Brandon McCarthy, Ryan Sweeney and David Aardsma" doesnt even make sense, kw really seems to like ardsma, i dunno, i wouldnt make this deal just because of sweeney...bmac, sweeney-too much

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) Any chance at all Phillies deal him? Our roster definately has what it takes to trade for anyone haha its funny because kw doesnt seem to want to trade uribe because he thinks he has a lot of potential, i doubt the phillies would want to trade rollins whos a million times better

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) We would have had a better chance of winning the WS last year if Gload was our LF instead of Pods. It really is just mind-boggling how so many people seem to forget how bad Pods has been for the last year and a half. But I agree with what some of the wiser posters have stated....this move doesn't guarantee he'll be on the team in 2007. no im not forgetting how bad he was, im not saying hes a better option. im just saying, how do u expect to be a championship caliber team with gload as ur everyday lf? -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) We dont agree on a lot, however I entirely agree with this. Ross Gload should be our LF and hitting 2nd. With Tad leading off. Prancer should not see the light of day, he should be a pinch runner at best. wow, we want to be a championship team and were gunna have ross gload as our left fielder? -

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 01:06 PM) Agreed. I just don't think anyone is going to be interested in trading for Pods when he costs $2.9 million. That kind of non-production is barely worth league minimum. Someone mentioned that signing him allows him to be used as a trade throw-in. How does "throwing in" Pods and his $2.9 million salary make a trade look any better to another team? Pods and his salary is a liability, not an asset. if guys like pierre mathews roberts etc hadnt gotten the amount of money they did, pods would probably have gotten 1.5-2mil, which he is worth at the most -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) When Pods is getting caught stealing or picked off 35 pct of the time, I'd rather have no speed and just let our money players do their job instead of giving up outs. lets just say we keep pods in lf and dont trade uribe because it seems like kw likes him...its going to be the same crap all over again.... 8)uribe 9)anderson 1)pods 2) gooch.... -

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) I'm sure Ozzie would find someone to lead off. Anyone but Uribe would be an improvement over Pods. Iguchi would be fine. Hell, I wouldn't even mind Guillen leading off. I just want an upgrade. than we would have no speed at all on this team...iguchi,dye,anderson, theyre about avg. you have to have atleast one player that can be a threat on the bases. -

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:15 PM) You act like these were the only options. It wouldn't have cost ridiculous amounts of money to dump Pods and let one of Gload/Mack/Sweeney play LF. Also, Jose Guillen is an available option who is much better than Pods. if we signed guillen, who would leadoff? -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Or Mackowiak....or Gload i hadnt thought about that...i think mack could lead-off. he can give you a little bit of power, hes better defensively than pods.. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) While I agree somewhat on this, I also don't see a lot of other options on the market. Don't be surprised when #22 trots out to left field come opening day. i rather see 22 trotting out there than number 5.... -

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) . They still need to get a number two hitter so they can move Iguchi down in the order. Michael Young anyone? that would be awesome..i dought it will happen. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) Great, another season of no tools Podsednik out in LF. I can't believe KW failed to upgrade the LF/leadoff position. what better alternatives are/were out there? mathews 5/50, pierre 5/45, roberts pot. getting 3/5? bmac/fields, etc for crawford? kw could just be doing this for insurence incase he cant get someone else.... -

i'll take my chance with pods for 1 year, 2.9 than with roberts for 3-5 mil for 3 yrs. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 07:51 AM) Ah yes, classic Kenny... Joe Crede is soooo gone before opening day. jeez, we waited forever for crede to turn out to be the player he is now, and were gunna move him the year after he finally breaksthrough....

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) I'd love to have Crawford. man, lets get this done, get santana and ship bmac to tb. crawford is awesome. i would be ecstaic with just getting baldelli.. like i said, one can only dream... -

QUOTE(supernuke @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 09:19 PM) I get the feeling that Ozzie isn't thrilled with Bmac so Kenny is looking at Santana to make Bmac expendable. I would have no problem seeing Bmac sent to the D-rays for Crawford but I think TB will be looking for a package that is at least the equivilant of what the Yanks got for Sheffield. one can only dream about having crawford...we need a player like that. we dont have that great* player. yes pk, dye, crede theyre good. but im talking about a great player like teams in our division have, sizemore, mauer. i can just picture it, crawford running wild on victor martinez -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) If your talking about the Crede/Garcia-Figgins/Santana,ask The Score, The Trib, and the LA Times, not Soxtalk... its all a bunch of damn rumors, just like the cubs offering schmidt that contract, they never did. i could see a deal involving garcia nd santana but not crede. -

i got to admit I'd really like it: Figgy Pods Dye Thome Konerko AJP Iguchi Fields Uribe I know its not quite as good of a lineup power wise (but we have tons of power anyway) but it definately is one capable of manufacturing runs. And if Pods struggles, we would have more than enough prospects to be able to acquire an outfielder at some point in time. Rotation (obviously an additional trade could made and you could see that trade netting us a different left fielder or something else for all I know since we'd have 6 starters): Buehrle Count Garland Santana Bmac Vaz (Broadway waits in wings) Pen: Jenks MacDougall Thorty Logan Donnelly Aardsma i like it too...but im not too sure about logan, there are a lot of good bats in the al central, among the best in baseball, (mauer, morneau, hafner, sizemore)we need a reliable lefty, besides thornton. -

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) IMO young pitching would have to be the centerpiece of any Tampa deal. They won't take a veteran pitcher making a ton of money. They would want Bmac or Santana so they could control him for 3-4 years at a reasonable rate. MB, Javy, JG, FG, or the Count would not interest them at all. A 3rd team would have to be added how about getting baldelli instead of crawford. i rather get him than get crawford for tons more talent. obviously it wouldnt cost as much to get baldelli -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) that brings up and interesting point. Who would we rather deal for Crawford if TB would take either, BMAC or Santana? i rather deal mccarthy. santana has way better stuff. i have a feeling bmac is going to give up the long ball way too much. santana to me has a better upside. -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) The worst possible fielder on the field at third, outside of letting pods play 3rd and they are exploiting him. why is that we dont use mack in the inf? he mostly played third for the pirates. we thought it was great getting him for his veritility, yet we only use him mostly in cf, which is probably his worst position.
