  1. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) After seeing him pitch against the Sox I'm not sure Liriano is the answer, but after Greinke he was my second choice and the price was right. i rather get liriano for nothing that we'll have next year instead of greinke who would have cost reed and who knows who else. still shocked thats all we gave up
  2. funny thing is that the sox basically killed his trade value by lighting him up the other day lol
  3. getting youk, liriano, meyers for almost nothing and not hurting the team
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:05 PM) Wait, that's all it took?? if so, great trade. i know hes inconsistent but i rather give those two up then all the names that were mentioned for greinke. liriano for escobar, hernandez>>>>>greinke for potentially players like viciedo, reed, deaza.
  5. dont forget robins gifts too lol
  6. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:35 AM) This is why they need to add another starting pitcher to the mix. I'm concerned that his velocity is down - it may not be an injury, but he's tired, and a tired arm could lead to bad habits, etc. I don't think Danks is even part of the conversation as that addition to the rotation, but when you think about Quintana not having this many innings under him, and general concern about Peavy's durability, there's got be another veteran arm added to the mix. we're already probably giving away the game with humber today then skip sale on wed? we face diamond so that would be giving away another game. the race is too close to be doing this, definitely need another starter
  7. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 10:42 PM) Big win, especially with the match-ups to come, and with the division rival(s) losing too. Sale battled brilliantly despite his problems. I love this team.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Jesus Christ. This is where the argument is that it WORKED, but it wasn't the right move and we got lucky as hell!!!!!!!!!!!!! This. Wow
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) JUST GET RID OF THORNTON PLEASE. Im not mad at matt. Everyone should be mad at robin. Makes no sense at all
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:52 PM) Ok What the hell? Um why is he still in?
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) Good thing we went out and got Myers...oops Makes no sense when u have 2 better options
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 07:36 PM) 88 MPH fastball yup, to cruz, no chance. i agree skipping his next two starts but we need another starter to do that
  13. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 07:32 PM) Seriously. oh my god. i dont think he means it like that, that he sucks, just that he might be hitting a wall and were going to need a starter. sale has no chance today with that fastball*
  14. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 07:06 PM) Gotta admit the Angels are loaded...hate to the one signing checks for that club. probably they were able to get him because theyre getting hunters 18mil off the books at the end of the year
  15. so the angels gave up 3 of their top 10 prospects
  16. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 06:54 PM) Yea if he was brought over with JJ Putz Id be all for it. We do NOT need an ace like some are claiming. I will take my chances with Peavy/Sale in the first 2 games of a series, if we could just get a solid #3 pitcher to take some pressure off Q/Gavin down the stretch we should be fine. shields isnt an ace.
  17. i wonder if the sox ever were heavily after him like everyone was saying. when you think about it just didnt make too much sense(in terms of resigning him, him wanting to be here, even stone said they werent going to get him) second, dont know those players well but if the sox could have offered better.
  18. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 04:46 PM) Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick In his last 7 starts, James Shields has a 6.15ERA. He's allowed 62 hits in 45.1 innings. Not helping his trade market No thanks for Shields some scouts said he might just need a change of scenery, fathom mentioned how hes not getting slong with the pitching coach. hey maybe they can buy low on him, better than overpaying for greinke.
  19. why are they trying to trade shields if theyre only 2 1/2 back in the wild card?
  20. what a pitchers duel at wrigley lol
  21. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 02:24 PM) I don't think KW will blink so the Brewers have to drop their price. It is pretty entertaining to read all the speculation on here. Looking like a back end rotation starter at best. liriano has a 5+ era, thats back end right?
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) Please win tonight, so I don't have to be mad about Humber getting shelled tomorrow night. why dont they just skip his start since they had a day off?
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:42 AM) While everyone is fixated on Grienke, etc? Why not look into Shields. He's having a down year, probably in part because he threw 250 innings last year. He's signed through 2014 at very fair rates and has proven he can pitch in the AL. His numbers have been a little up and down, but worse case, he's a middle of the rotation innings eater and that is pretty valuable, especially when you have a few young guys in the rotation (Sale & Q). It also means the Sox can look at selling Floyd in the off-season for some other chips (if they want to put Castro or Molina in the rotation). And if you lose Peavy, the rotation is still in decent shape. I have no idea on the cost, but I'd be willing to give up some solid talent for Shields. i think that would be a move that would help them next year and not so much this year. hes been bad , could they fix him right away this year? dont know
  24. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:09 AM) Ugh, please KW, stop this fascination right meow. q,reed,beckham?pass
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) I'm not sure why...I saw this idea floated in a story somewhere, that leaving Delgado on the table would result in Epstein and Hoyer doing something creative with Ricketts' money to force that deal through and avoid them having egg on their faces. yea joel sherman wrote that: One executive wondered if the Cubs might offer Dempster $1MM to go to Atlanta if the Braves are willing to surrender considerably more than the Dodgers, Joel Sherman of the New York Post writes (Twitter links). Someone like Randall Delgado might be worth enough to make up for the one-time cost of $1MM.
