QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) i dont see why he wouldnt waive it to go to the sox. its not like the braves will resign him. plus, its his FA year, if he played at the cell he would put up monster numbers, therefore he would get a bigger contract. His family is well entrenched in Atlanta and he wouldn't want to move them in consecutive years?

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) YASNY, I said that my gut feeling is that Crede is full of s***. You dont hire and agent like Boras to give a hometown discount, to not have him negotiate for you, to market you. Boras is the king of marketing his players and a hell of a negotiator. The A-Rod to Crede was just an example of how some players say things but do the exact opposite. Sorry that I referenced A-Rod but it was the first thing that came to mind. The fact of the matter is taking a player's words for what the are worth. Boras has been Crede's agent from the beginning if I have my facts straight. He was a kid when he signed with Boras. He's not a kid now. He may ... MAY ... dictate the way things are going to go.

Jones has a 5/10 no trade exemption. He'd had to approve it.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) Oh no, I don't mean YOUR reference. You are fine. I mean the way it was used by Mr. O'Reilly. Read "Culture Warrior" ... you'll love it.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) I'm surprised that Jesse Jackson isn't on K-Dub's ass seeing as how we only have like one black dude on the 40 man roster. What a guy that Vernon Wells is. Way to isolate yourself from the vast majority of your teammates. Chris Dudley never pulled anything like this.... Don't sleep on Dudley. If K-Dub was white ... Jackson would be on his ass.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) I agree. It was more the usage in the context I referred to that I found insulting. I never would have used the term if you hadn't have brought it up. At that point, it was fair game ... but all in fun.

Tom Daschle just said he expects Sen. Johnson to back on the senate floor soon. I hope he's being straight with us.

Apparently, the accuser has given birth ... 9 months after the alleged crime. The defense attorneys are asking for paternity tests.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) Its all good. I resembled that remark anyway. Actually, since the term "religious conservative" is often used to refer to that part of the populace, I guess "secular progressive" is a pretty good description of another part. When you think about it, it is actually pretty much on the money. I wouldn't consider it an insult. It's more of a description or catagorization.

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) YASNY, I do realize that ARod and Crede has no bearing whatsoever but I used the example of things players say, ie Joe saying his agent will not get in the way of him signing, that are completely disregarded when a issue of money comes up... hence why i referenced A-Rod and his comments prior to his FA signing. There are some players that would do it for the love of the game (Konerko taking a home town discount to stay with the sox) and their are some that are more intent on the money (Arod negating his comments and going with the most bang for the buck). Only time will tell what column Crede falls into. The thing with Baseball these days is that outside of the season players at times forget about loyalty and those that gave them a chance. Those that are typically loyal to their teams become the face of that team for years to come... people like Damon who WAS the face of the BoSox lost all respect when his agent lied to the Sox about other offers on the table, he also stated he would never play for the Yanks... he's wearing the pinstripes now. All I am saying is in this day and age it is difficult to take any players words for face value! That's strange. I thought that when you said Crede was full s*** and money talks Crede walks that you intended a correlation between the two.

I have an inflatable Christmas decoration. She looks like an angel. Her mouth is shaped in an "O" shape like she's starting to sing 'Oh Holy Night!' or 'Oh Come All Ye Faithful'. I put a Santa hat on her. Neighbors got upset for some reason.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 08:44 AM) Yep, and hello Alex Rios. As for Wells taking this deal, I think he realizes that he, like all of us, can live with 7/126 million in a place he might not like. As diverse as the Blue Jays TEAM is not, Toronto is a VERY diverse city (I've been there a few times) and a pretty cool place, so yeah. The Jays adding Frank Thomas may have eased that diversity sitution somewhat.

QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) In regards to Boras and Joe's comments about how he wont let his agent get in the way of re-signing. A-Rod (I have to reference) stated in the off-season prior to the '01 season that he wanted to go to a younger competitive team and money was not the issue (I can not find the exact quote) he came from Seattle who had won the wild card in 2000 and ended up winning the division in 2001. He chose the Rangers: because they were younger? Somewhat, their average age for 01 was 29.8... Seattle's was 31.1 which was after A-Rod left. Texas was a competitor? Hardly 4th in 2000 and still 4th in 2001. So, what was the main reason for the signing with texas? They offered him THE largest contract in Baseball. Do you really think A-Rod wanted to go to a Texas team that was not even thought of to be a competitor? Nah, he wanted the money and they had the best on the table! So when Crede says he wont let his agent get in the way of re-signing? I am going to go with my gut feeling and say that Crede is full of s***! Money talks so Crede walks! You may be right, but what happened with ARod has no bearing whatsoever on what will happen with Crede. None.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 08:45 AM) The right never did care about the United States federal government. GMAB It is a balancing act, was from the beginning, and will be forever. It is not about caring 100% for one over the other. But then by acknowledging that your snarky comments can't be made. You always find a way to make little snarky comments about the left. Wow. Some people are really touchy these days. If you call that snarky ... You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet! Seriously, Texsox. I considered that a lighthearted little dig. No malice intended. You are WAY overreacting to it. Besides, there are a few of you secular progressives that are quite fluent in Snark as well.

QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) I've been under the weather for the last couple of days, but I'll jump back in here and say that I don't think that police knowing our work addresses is the same as RFID chipping, not at all. I was merely attempting to point out that we actually have no privacy (well, not nearly as much as we think we do, anyway). In fact, many of us, myself included, voluntarily carry a tracking device on our person every day, in the form of a cell phone. If you want to have privacy, you'll need to move off the grid entirely. That's part of the desensitization process.

QUOTE(NUKE @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) These people are foreginers and terrorist suspects to boot and they were captured on foregin soil. They have no business in a U.S. civilian courtroom. PERIOD! If the left would stop holding up the process with their lawsuits these people could get their trial and we could be done with them one way or the other. Preach it, brother.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 10:35 PM) State laws can be changed, and are, when people decide there is a better way. I agree in this case you have to follow the existing law. Nice bait with that last line. Show me anywhere where liberals cared any less about states governing themselves? It's insulting personal attack lines like that which start stupid arguments around here and show ignorance of what people actually believe. Evil, that's what I am saying. I don't like it when it goes either way. I believe if it happened more often states would change their laws. But as it is, it doesn't happen that often and from a party standpoint, it will even out over time. Dems will replace Reps and Reps will replace Dems. But the evening will happen collectively on a state by state basis, voters will not have a guarantee that the replacement will be even close to the views of the person they elected. Insulting personal attack lines? WTF are you talking about? It's well known that left is for more federal government and the right is more for states rights. There is nothing personal or insulting or attack mode about it. It's a fact. However, if you consider someone pointing out the left point of view to you to be an insulting personal attack, then maybe you ought reexamine your points of view.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) I completely agree. If his arm is back in full health and his velocity is back to normal, he'll be extremely effective in the National League. Of course, as you mentioned, he'll earn his buck and then be a huge let down. ..... unless he signs with Boston next offseason.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 01:14 PM) If you are going to use that analogy, then make it accurate. What you describe is what Afghanistan was supposed to be (and started off being). Whats happened since then is a witch hunt for people who may or may not be considering entering your property with ill intent. That is what I have a problem with. I think the analogy as I presented it was most appropriate.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 01:59 PM) I really hope that this goes away quickly by his recovery. Otherwise, we are going to have Republicans going crazy for his seat, and the Democrats using his funeral for a GOP bashing party and political stump speech. I really hope so too.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 01:04 PM) I would imagine it unlikely that Sports Illustrated will run a report about Milkman posting that he doesn't need a needle to prove to him that Gagne is a juicer. SI quoted me ... from here! I would have imagined it would be unlikely too. But they did it.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 12:54 PM) I am just fine with military tribunals, in the military justice system, if that is what is called for. You know what? People here are going to scream at the conservatives for being hateful and short-sighted, and others will scream at the liberals about kissing terrorists' asses. And its all B.S. But I do see a theme here, and in a portion of the general public, that I find disgusting and dangerous. Its the idea that because someone doesn't agree with the way we are handling this "war on terror", that we are somehow cowards. You know what? I'll say something I've never said here. If you think that my views are out of cowardice or fear, then F*** YOU. There, I said it. Suspend me. I don't care. But don't think for a second this is about courage. Courage means doing the right thing even when you have every reason in the world not to. Allowing hatred to pull us into a pit of slime is where fear is. Eh. I just see it this way. These terrorists are the epitome of inhumanity ... and they are proud it based on their actions and the fact that they advertise those actions. When it comes down to a choice of them suffering some less than humane treatment, or some of us suffering flagrant inhumane treatment ... I'll throw them under the bus every time. Maybe I'm the coward. If so, this coward is going to go down fighting and I don't care what the rest of the world thinks about it. If someone is in my yard and I know they want to kill me, I'm not going to depend on the police to get there before they cross my threshold. One step in my house and they are meat. These bastards have already come into our 'house' and 3000 of us are dead. That's more than enough for me.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) Then give them a fair trial and convict them. If the United States can't prove what should be a fairly simple case, then why should I judge them to be a threat? Maybe its because we have too many bleeding heart liberals on the bench ... people like that jerk in Vermont that gave a child rapist probation. What's wrong with a military tribunal? This is war. Our soldier that allegedly raped and killed that girl in Iraq and her family, he's facing a military courtmartial. Why should these assholes get the benefit of a civilian trial? That sounds like a double standard to me. I'm all for a trial if it's it a military tribunal. But no, that's too harsh on these poor mistreated murdering thugs.
