    We have a new pope!

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) Oh boy, after hearing/reading those conflicting reports of the pope's death, I'm just going to put my excitement on hold. /reserved That's the best course of action. The Italian media is saying there is a new pope, but they were the ones that prematurely reported JP's death.

    We have a new pope!

Now they are tolling the bells for the top of the hour and the people are cheering.

    We have a new pope!

Amazing. Nobody knows what is happening. They are saying that this vote is an hour earlier than expected yet still no bells.

    We have a new pope!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) Very interesting... everyone in St Peter's square is all excited, and Italian wire services think this is it. Exactly! There is a tremendous buzz there.

    We have a new pope!

White smoke coming out of the chimney ... no Bells from St Peter's yet though
  7. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) I have a very special outfit for when you come to town Yas.. Damn. I can't find a drooling smilie.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) Hmmm.. maybe I should wear it there.. Your summer attire is quite nice.
  9. I never want to see Frank Thomas at first base defensively again.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) He keeps wanting to call the same pitch over and over (the splitter) and AJ won't let him. That's why he kept shaking him off. AJ was making him throw a bigger variety of pitches, which is probably what kept him from getting shelled. Normally he falls in love with the splitter then goes to the fastball when that doesn't work. Last night he mixed in curves and changes, along with that drop down motion curve. If that's the case, AJ needs to keep doing it. This is an area that Ozzie and Coop need to intercede and tell Contreras to pitch whatever pitch is called.
  11. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) Whenever I go to some other team's stadium, I never wear my Sox stuff (or Hawks or Bears). I much prefer to quietly root for my team, check out the ballpark, and stay out of trouble. My dad suggested this approach to me a long time ago, and I've always agreed with his logic and I'm grateful he made his point clear. I've seen too many innocent fans take abuse, physical and otherwise, while wearing opposition hats and jerseys. There are too many nuts just looking to pick a fight, why give them a reason. I saw the Sox at Arlington last year, while wearing a Sox cap. I had a wonderful time. Talked some friendly trash to a few fans. But, we were laughing, talking baseball and enjoying baseball. If you go to an opposing stadium acting like a moron, you'll attract morons.
  12. I don't care if they are all gut wrenching, heart stopping, one run victories, as long as they are victories.
  13. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 10:07 AM) If Ozzie was asked to ride the pine back in his playing days how would he have accepted it? Hasn't Ozzie said one of the main reasons the Sox let him go was his support of Magglio, how he thought Magglio should be given a better chance? When Ozzie was playing shouldn't he have let the "boss" make the decisions and not say anything about it, like he expects everyone to do about his decisions and the stupid crap that comes out of his mouth. They are trying to put a spin on what Ozzie said, and I'm pretty sure Ozzie has been spoken to. People get misquoted, and quotes are taken out of context, but when every media outlet is reporting the same damn thing, the language barrier excuse is weak. I have no doubt its been ironed out, and Frank has been apologized to and assured nothing this stupid will ever happen again. Oh hell. Ozzie was talking about the whole damn team in '04. He mention 3 or 4 other names in the context they were the team leaders and the team had attitude problems. The media just jumped on the Frank Thomas aspect of it, and ran with it. This s*** has been going on with Frank for 15 years. It's not Ozzie. It's not Frank. It's the damn Chicago media.
  14. Tonight's game is a big one. If we can 4 out of 5 from the tWins, those games will go a long way in September. They won't mean much when we start playing them head to head again in August, but they do count quite a bit in the standings. Let's go "get 'er done".
  15. Jose's time here was done. He needed to move on. Crede is my pick.
  16. I don't think Harry Carey leaving the Sox booth hurt near as much as Harry going into the Cubs booth. When Harry was with the sox, Comiskey Park was "the world's largest tavern". When he took his drunk ass north, Wrigley became "the world's largest garden party". That, along with the "Beautiful Wrigley Field" bulls***, has hurt the Sox more than anything, since that implies "as opposed to that dump on the southside". The Sox were turning it around in the early '90's, but JR had to go and screw up by being a hardass on the labor front, not only pissing off fans for that reason alone, but by costing the Sox a possible-probable World Series. Then the White Flag trade was the last straw for so many fans. Slowly, steadily it appears to me the pendulum is swinging back towards the Sox. Wrigley is decomposing around them as is the neighborhood around Wrigley. Tribco is constantly pissing off the fans, with the ticket scalping fiasco and the rooftop controversy. The Cub players and manager constantly b****ing, moaning and sniping are also eroding the misconceived Wrigley magic. They are no longer the "lovable losers", just losers and chokers. It's happening folks. The southside franchise will rise again. Book it.
  17. I started reading the huge thread on this Ozzie/Frank thing that was started when this first broke, and everyone was ripping on Ozzie. After 3 pages, I just killed it. I knew it would end up like this. There's a language barrier, then tyhe media adds it's own twist to things and then it ends up being a lot of crap about nothing. It's happened before, and it'll happen again.
  18. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:59 PM) Oh I'm definately not one that is saying "Make Hermanson our closer!" at all. Shinjo is still my closer on this team. But I think he should be given a bit shorter leash at the moment, till its evident that he is using the pitches at his command to get guys out. A la quit throwing that GD 85 mph fastball, it isnt gonna fool anyone without them seeing teh frisbee mixed in there. Shinjo is still my man. I agree with the shorter leash comment, and I believe you'll be seeing that for a while. I don't think Shingo would have pitched to Mauer in a one run game and any further sign of trouble, he would have been pulled.
  19. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Apr 19, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) With all the Sox killers the Twins have had the past few years, Carl is some small revenge right now. Hopefully he can continue to be a thorn in their side. I remember in that September 2003 series at the dome, Carl was pretty much the only Sox player hitting anything. I think Carl has the Twins in his sights. He is stepping it up against them. Everett is a true professional.
  20. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:19 PM) DJ said Everett had a contusion on his back? Some mentioned he had a contusion of the scapula, which if I remember correctly, is the shoulder blade.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) 2 productive outs in an inning is not a recipe for scoring runs, especially when the first "productive" out is leading off the inning. It was nice to see Uribe draw a walk though. Add a few base hits, and it's a damn good recipe.
  22. Vinnie Castilla has a 2b, 3b and hr tonight for the Nats, thru 6 innings.
  23. QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 07:47 PM) Is there really any truth to that? I've heard it a million times. They say the same thing about a home run. I wonder if there's any facts to back it up. It's just human nature. It takes a little pressure off a guy that's struggling and he loosens up a bit. Some times thats all it takes.
  24. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Ducksnort and a beaut Quite often, those type are slump busters.
