QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) That's what I thought.. but I wasn't sure. You poor things.. It may be bad, but I'm very glad I never had to worry about things like ... oh ... childbirth.

It was mentioned that leaving Contreras in for the 7th inning was a bad move by Ozzie. I disagree as Contreras had settled down and pretty much had it on cruise control at that point. Also, in the game thread, someone made the unfathomable criticism about Contreras piping in a 3-2 fastball, which was the pitch that was launched. If I'm pitching in that situation, that is exactly what I want to do. I damn sure don't want to nibble and walk someone. Walks kill, period. I figure with wind blowing in and 7 fielders behind me, I'll take my chances and make the guy hit to get on. In this case, it didn't work out. 95% of the time, that pitch stays in the yard. I hope Contreras keeps that same mindset throughout the course of the year. Don't give in. Challenge 'em.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) Man, I absolutely love our bullpen. For the last two years i've had no faith in anybody outside of Marte, Shingo, And Gordon in 2003. Now we've got 4 if not 5 guys that we know can come in and do the job. It's a great feeling. A Kochless bullpen is nice to have.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) You all know that as soon as we lose a game we'll get knocked back down below 10 again. :rolly And I'll consider it just as irrelevent as I do this current ranking.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) I think Timo would play CF before Willie would. He has a much better arm than Willie. Ok. I can go along with that. The main point was not to even think about Everett in CF. I saw enough of that in '03. -

I just finished reading this entire thread. There was a lot of second guessing after Contreras gave up that 7th inning HR. But, on the other hand, there was some good first guessing going on in the Sox 10th. Either way, it was a good informative account of the ball game. -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) He's a passable outfielder for a few innings. Not ideal, but passable. He plays none particualry well but can play all three which is nice. Frank will be back soon in the grand scheme of things. Just a month or so away Rowand. Podsednik. Harris. Perez. .... Options 1 thru 4 in CF. There is no reason to ever put Everett near CF again. EVER! -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 12:28 PM) It asked what NL pitcher you would build your staff around. I can't recall exactly but I believe it was Sheets, Peavy, Hudson, Prior, Schmidt, or other. Peavy finished in dead last. When are suckas gonna know? He's 23 and led the league in era. I'm a big Schmidt guy but he's 30. SHeets has only had one year even above average although I like him. Hudson and Prior have had real injury issues. My verdict is that I'd start my staff around peavy out of that group. If it were the AL, unfortunately I'd have to go with the guy in the dome and I don't mean Carlos Silva Hell. Nobody knows about Peavy. How often did you see the Padres last year?

Damn Blackhawks failed to make the playoffs, AGAIN.

You're right. At times, Mariotti can be entertaining. Wood & Prior = Blue Cross and Blue Shield

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 10:09 AM) There are some pretty ugly players. Most of them seem to be pitchers too. Anyone remember Mike LaVeirre or however it was spelled. He backed up Karkovice for a while. He wasn't very good looking either. Spanky!
-
Just walked in, turned on the TV and watched Wood throw one down the RF line. 4-0 Pads and life is good.
-
In that article, he referred to Sosa being gone as "a noose without a head in it". Mariotti is fitting it for Dusty.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 07:11 AM) Damn what about all of those people who speak Deliverence? They're as flustered as a three legged dog in a cat fight.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 06:42 AM) Agree 100%. He might not have this chance ever again, and Boston was nice enough to invite him back. Media b****ing about nothing. It gives talk radio something to talk about.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 04:33 AM) Thats terrible. It would only be fair justice if the wife had some sort of punishment too. I'm sure the investigators are checking out that possibility.

The rules are what the rules are. Sometimes, there doesn't seem to be proper justification for the awarding of wins and saves. Perhaps three members of the press corps should be appointed before the game to decide when a scenario as mentioned above occurs. Two "home" beat writers and one "away" beat writer should be doable.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 04:36 AM) Thought I'd start my first game thread of the season. Let's hope the Sox can get onto Lee early again, Jose can continue on the way he pitched in his 1st start, and the Sox can get the job done. A win here, and the chances of a season sweep are quite good, I'll put my money on El Duque over Scott Elarton in the next game any day of the week. You realize, of couse, that if Contreras sucks today, you are in deep s***! -
