QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) I was comparing offenses. We did not go from a A+ power team to a A+ speed, small ball offense. We went to a B or C+ small ball offense, because we needed to spend that money on pitching. I should have been clearer. Of course that also supports one of Mariotti's complaints, that of the role of money in all this. I realize you were comparing offenses. That was the point. You should be comparing the teams. When you mention dropping power and OBP doesn't fit, in itself, that is accurate. When you consider dropping runs against into the equation, then it does.

LOL. I guess I'm a beer wimp.

QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:38 AM) So Carlos Lee is about 20% of the Brewers payroll? That seems obscene to me. I just dont believe that you can put 20% of your payroll into one player I believe we will see a gradual increase in the Brewers payroll. They have to start somewhere if that's the plan.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) This is one of his worse articles ever, and this is from someone that hates just about everything he writes. The quick jab at hawk in the beginning set the tone for this article. He's doing nothing but trying to spread his hate for everything black and white. When will the sun-times let 'em go? We are all sitting here discussing a Sun-Times columnist on a message board. So we are telling them that we read and discuss his columns. Why on earth would they let him go?

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) I am so sick of hearing about the loss of power. I am still kind of pissed that we traded Lee, but it was clear that Magglio was not going to be back, and we played most of last year without him anyways. Our leader in homers(Konerko) is still hear, Rowand hit 24 when he wasn't even a full time player the whole year, we added Dye who has always been good for 20-30 in medicore to poor hitting parks, and between Everett and Thomas we should get at least solid 30. That doesn't even count Uribe or Crede who both hit over 20 last year. It pisses me off especially when I don't see him talking about the drop in power on the northside. Lee and Aramis are good for 30 apiece and Patterson and Garciaparra should be somewhere in the 20's, but the rest of the team isn't exactly power-ladden. And yet there is nothing from Jay. I'm so sick of this guy it's ridiculous. If he mentioned the Cubs drop in power, he'd have to at least imply a positive thought about Sosa. That's off limits for Cubby nation these days.

QUOTE(ZeroHour @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:51 AM) I just want to know when or where Willie learned how to bunt? Also, anyone notice Juan Uribe still swings at ANYTHING? A shortstop that swings at anything ... Where have we seen that before?

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Eh.. power is over-rated anyway. Just dont jip your ticket connection.. LMAO I wouldn't dream of it!

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) Games in April for as long as I can remember have not sold well. It's just the way it is. It will stay that way until we make some post season noise.
-
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) Makes sense...though maybe a later start time would help. Can't do much about these April day games i guess. Honestly, you can't. They are always on the schedule in early April.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) There is some criticism of the change in style and how well that style change was carried out that would be interesting and informative. Dropping someone like Jose for a higher average would fit a get on base, move runners, approach. But Lee has a higher average than Pods and Maggs had a higher average than Dye. Dropping average and power doesn't seem to fit. If he wants to criticism why the team changed focus, it seems kind of a non issue. Money, chances of winning, etc. doesn't make a difference to most of his readers. If he wants to debate if they did a good job of changing to a small ball team, more people will be interested. Unfortunately, by now, when he does hit a home run with his analysis, it isn't taken seriously. This is probably his weakest effort to date. Reads as very petty and childish. And this is coming from someone who actually enjoys some of his columns. What you are leaving out of the equation here is pitching. Comparing Maggs to Dye and Lee to Pods does not go far enough.

QUOTE(SuperSteve @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) Seriously? You want owners to go into debt? Look at the Diamondbacks...I can't believe you would say that. If you owned the team, would you put a ton of extra money into it? I doubt it, also, we're in the top half of salaries, what is wrong with you people? Consider the source. :rolly

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) No I look at it as we Lucked out to win that one.. WE should have lost that one. as far as yesterdays game. And if the situation had been reversed, You would have said we choked and blew it. As someone said .. it's always f***ing negative with you.

QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) I read it. It's the same stuff he always says. "Reinsdorf never has won anything in 25 years" "Sox have one AL Central title in 5 years" Get some new material buddy. He just cut-and-pastes it. I wish he'd just simply cut it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) Until the owner puts on a uniform and has an impact between the lines I don't care if Scooby Doo is the owner.. and IMO it's stupid when people use that as an excuse to not go. I'd agree with you, but .... well, I can't blame Blackhawk fans.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) I still don't understand why Dempster and Rusch changed roles... And to put things in the proper perspective ... not only do I not understand, but I don't care!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Just like they are going after Delay. Shameful. Wait until the media circus when an innocent homeowner blows away some punk who walks on his property. They'll be all in a tizzy. The only place that will have the guts to print the honest to God truth on this is the http://nra.org/ You can use your sarcasm to twist and spin all you want. Doesn't bother me in the least. I know what I've seen from the media over the last 30 years.

QUOTE(mreye @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) First time in the regular season. Details, details.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:28 AM) He is an opinion-based reporter, who only writes articles base on his feelings at the time. Trust me, he wont be talkin about the sox like this when the cubs are losing to AZ Um ... (two posts in a row using that) ... The Cubs are losing to AZ and mariotti is talking about the Sox.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) IMO they still are.. like everyone has said it is still early come June/July time I feel we lose Yesterdays game.. for a reason some mention on Yesterdays Giants/Dodgers game.. Most RP were not used in game like situations, during ST so for the first couple of weeks ur RP is going to have some issues. Take a look at Rivera in NY, first time in his carrer that he blown 2 saves, I think that has something to do with it. I still fear the Indians more than the Twins this year, they have a decent roation, Milwood addressed alot of questions yesterday, and pitched a gem..Westbrook did as well opening day. And Cle was close to 2 wins. Um ... Rivera blew two consecutive saves in the ALCS. So that's 4 in row now. Cleveland was close to two wins ... but when you look at the standings, they have 2 L's

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 7, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) I know some states have taken away the right for someone who breaks into your home to sue if they get injured either by accident or by the owners use of force to defend his property. Which seems like a Doh to me. I wonder of Florida is trying to enact something like that and it just appears to apply to more circumstances? It's more a case of the liberal media twisting things because the Governor's last name is Bush.
-
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to post this. I've done it a few times too.

When I first read of this, before this thread was started, the AP article said the Florida law would be in line with most other states if enacted. I spent 30 minutes looking for that article last night, with no luck.
