QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) I meant for the client. Also that was supposed to say, figure should be higher for Houston, as cost of living there is less than Chicago and NY. SB I'm sorry. I know what you meant. I was just trying to make a point.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Looking at out current rotation and drinking the WS Koolaid, I disagree. I thought Scott was a solid guy with some injuries that once healed would be solid again. I agree this could come back and haunt us. Wait! You disagree and agree in the same post?

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Personally, I would not want Boras, as my agent. Unless you are his top star on the market that off-season, expect that your needs and your contract will be put on hold. Look at the Maggilio situation, Maggs and Beltran both had Boras, and Both were probably going to get offers from the same teams. Perhaps the Mets would of given Maggs 100 mil, and Beltran would of gotten his 100 mil from the Astros. Instead Boras choses to make the big splash with Beltran, and now Maggs' is left with no contract and hoping that some one will take a chance on him. But will Boras let Maggs sign a 1 year, injury deal, or will he give him "advice" like he has done to his draft picks that he should sit this season out if an offer does not meet Boras's expectations. Just seems like a conflict of interest. SB No conflict of interest. It's all in Boras' interest.

Just call it a hunch, but I think we'll regret not keeping Scott Schoeneweis. I don't know how and don't ask me to justify it, because I can't. Let's just look at this at the end of the season.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) November to March, he is THE player in baseball.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:23 AM) Scott Boras or Scot Bor*ass as the mood dictates OK ... Thanks. I'm more in tune to players than agents. Call it a weakness on my part.

QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Who is Steve Boras? What? Do I have his name wrong? Whatever. Beltran's agent. Whatever his name is.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) Look this whole thread is speculation including my comments on munoz. In fact most of this board is speculation. Point is IF the Sox are interested in Bynes, which maybe a rumor then they may interested in trading rowand which they might not. I beleive that is what this thread is about, and thats the way it will end until somebody talks to the media. Speculation is so much fun though. It causes such imteresting discussion here.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) I thought the ARod issues came later when the team couldn't spend more money to build a winner as they promised?? He does have a way to claim all the top players and those that think they are. Texas was not on ARod's radar at all. I really can't remember the details, but not only was the amount a shock, but the fact he signed with Texas was. However, since I can't seem to remember what the hell was going on there, I withdraw that statement.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) And therein lies the problem. If you want to be technical about it, Beltran would have brought home more money in Texas, which has no state income tax, vs NY state. But since Borass can sell his secondary clients higher based on the per annum that Beltran got, this is a better deal for Borass, and guess where Beltran ended up. And that is dispite his love of Houston, his objections for NYC, and more money in Houston. Add in the cost of living in NYC and it's a slam dunk. Beltran screwed himself to Boras' benefit.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) We're not getting Vazquez. All reports indicate he wants to play in the NL & on the E coast. The Marlins are now talking to AZD on acquiring him. He has expressed an interest to play for FLM. AZD received $19M in the deals & FLM will be asking for a good chunk of that. Well. That's settled then.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) I guess some people could be intimidated by Boras. I wonder if Beltran made that statement as part of a carefully scripted Boras ploy to get more money out of the Mets? Really meant the Bankees? Really meant it? I would want the potential for winning, stadium suiting my playing ability, and a couple other things weighed into the equation, but very few players seem to. When they do, they get criticized in the press. Look at Vazquez and Green. A lot of a player's preferences doesn't come out, but when it does Boras seems to just brush that aside. ARod signing with Texas is another example.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:05 AM) We do buy a 1/4 cow every year now from a local butcher/friend of the family. The taste of unprocessed beef is sooooo much better than the crap you get at the supermarket. True Dat!

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:03 AM) I think we can put the Vazquez rumors involving the CWS finally to bed. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-mar...ports-headlines Vazquez has been quoted as saying he wants to play on the E Coast & remain in the NL. This opens the door for the Marlins. With the cash AZD received for Vazquez they can reduce his cost to $21M/3. That's what the Marlins intended to spend on Pavano. The Marlins have the talent AZD wants to get the deal done. There's nothing new about that.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) You don't hear his clients complaining. In the end he does work for you. You can control who you sign with. There seems to be a right of passage in being his client. You reach some All-Star dividing line and he seemingly has everybody signed. I wonder what the reality is behind the public image? I know I would not want some father figure patron saint telling me what to do. I remember that Beltran specifically expressed his objections to playing in NY. Yet, he's in NY. Boras has a way of manipulating players into signing for the most money, regardless of their personal desires. Not too difficult for a good salesman I guess. But it allows Boras to tell the next guy, "Look what I got for him....."
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) Seriously, if you were a superstar player, wouldn't you want Boras negotiating your contract? Say what you will about him, he gets some deals for his players. If you got the bucks, step into his showroom. Who has represented more Hall of Fame bound clients? Honestly, no. I think I'd be leaning toward an agent that listened more to what I had to say than what the union and Boras' bank book says.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) I was just sitting here enjoying some fresh squeezed OJ from my tree and thinking about the whole earth bounty, back to nature movement that fizzled out. I still grow some citrus and herbs, but no more vegetables. I'm thinking about digging up some area and getting started. No. I don't. But my father plants a huge garden every year, so I get all kinds of fresh veggies.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) No thanks, not my type . . . Figuratively speaking of course.

Will Brett Favre win another playoff game?
YASNY replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I don't think so. I feel the Packers as a team are headed downhill. Favre is too. -
Screw Magglio Ordonez and Steve Boras. :fyou

I can see both sides of this debate. There is certainly some validation to the point that Carlos Lee was worth more than we received from Milwaukee. There is also the very valid point that we also "got" Hernandez and Pierzynski as a result of this trade. Taking into consideration the stuff that came out about Carlos immediately after the trade, perhaps KW decided to strike before the stuff leaked out and lowered his trade value. Perhaps it came out only because the trade had been made. We don't know about all that. So, basically, we don't have all the information to make an informed, intelligent judgement about the trade. All in all, it looks pretty damn good for us at this point and that's about all, as fans, we can expect.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) Premeditation isn't the only thing that should be measured here. TO and the Sharpie was premeditated, but was celebratory. Also, Joe Horn and the cell phone. Classless, maybe, but all pro sports are hanging on an edge, some more than others. And for one of your so called, stars is pretending to moon the fans at a hostile stadium, LIVE ON CAMERA, then rubbing your ass on the Packers name, that's just not smart. Eventually, there will be a backlash from all of this...someone will go too far and fans will stop going to games. Not all fans, but enough to hurt the leagues. If the fans moon the team bus, then moon them back from the bus. Personally, I liked that he was pointing at the scoreboard when the packer fans were on him. That's the best way to get back at any opposing fan (if you're winning). One of these days, some psycho fan is gonna shoot one of these jerks on the spot. I can't believe they can't foresee this possibility.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) i would have rather gotten money out of the deal instead of some snub minor league player ive never heard of Just consider who we were trading with. Money was not an option, I'm sure.
