  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 10:40 PM) Awesome -- Duke tomorrow night. Matthews played really well on the offensive end. The best part about the win tonight was the effort down low. Marquette outrebounded Tech by at least ten. The trio of sophomores combined for 50+ points. Tomorrow's going to be fun. I don't know if we have anybody who can guard McRoberts, but neither Nelson nor Shaier (sp?) will beat us. And if Coach K tries to go man, Wes Matthews will eat Schaier alive. Duke's guards are amazingly unathletic. They are going to kill you inside, but your guards are going to do whatever they want on offense. I think the best chance is to let Duke get their points inside, but don't give their guards open looks, and use your athletic ability on the offensive end. Should be a fun battle, Marquette can win if they play well, and I think they will win if they play well.
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) The game of the century goes to the Trojans/Longhorns in last years National Championship game. Now that was an amazing game. This OSU-Michigan game was good and exciting but I wouldn't call it a legendary game. Agreed on part 2, but not part 1. Game of the century to me was Miami/Ohio State in early January of 2003. Unlike these other games, that one actually had DEFENSE, it had drama, injuries, controversy, a great ending, underdog getting it done....that's my pick.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 20, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Bruce also thinks that the Cubs will sign Jason Schmidt. They will. And in all probability, he will get hurt a lot. It's the Cubs way.
  4. Assuming he signs, the Matsusaka move has the #1 dumbest move of the offseason on lockdown. However, this now has #2 on lockdown. 5 years at 9 millon per for the black Pods? HA!!
  5. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 07:28 PM) Far superior?? What are you smoking these days? Nothing, I watch football games, and Florida is a fraud, whereas Arkansas has been the most impressive team in the country outside of the Big 10 since the USC game. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) I cant see a rematch happen at all. The computers aren't going to let anybody pass Michigan other than USC though, unless the voters have a big change of heart over a team (Michigan) that doesn't play again, which they won't.
  6. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) if florida wins out, i think they deserve it. Well they won't win out since Arkansas is a far superior team, however even if they do win out, the computers aren't going to let them pass Michigan. That Western Carolina game they played yesterday was too big of a hit.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) Terrible signing, but the Cubs are in great position in their division now. I can't wait for Cubs fans to start planning their World Series parade. Not unless Soriano can pitch. They still have one of the worst rotations in baseball, and as of now, Neal Cotts is in it. You can't even win the NL Central that way.
  8. USC has the #2 spot if they win out, but if they don't, it'll probably be a rematch.
  9. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Nov 19, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) Not sure what game you were watching, but Mike Hart was indeed the best running back on the field today. And yes Ohio State made two uncharacteristic mistakes that gave Michigan 10 points. But Michigan made two uncharacteristic mistakes in allowing the two big runs, which netted OSU 14 points. This game was a game of two heavyweights. OSU was favored and won. If they played again, I am not sure if the result would be the same. That is basically what Mike Hart was saying. He didn't come off well, like Brian said, but he was just saying what he felt. He said OSU's defense wasn't that good and that Michigan squandered some opportunities. He felt if they played again, their defense would play better and they could still score like they did today. Mike Hart is as good as any running back in the country. Darren McFadden may be the only back better and at that point you are splitting hairs. That said, I still would consider Troy Smith the best player on the field today. Pittman had less carries for more yards, and he didn't even play all that well. And I just saw what Mike Hart said, he guaranteed it would go differently if they played again. He was being a b**** sore loser, just like Leinart after they lost to Texas last year. A better team beat you Mr. Hart, get over it. Oh, and Adrian Peterson is way, way better than Mike Hart as well as McFadden and Steve Slaton. Heck, even Marshawn Lynch isn't too far off. And if OSU's defense wasn't that good, what does it say about Michigan's? And there is a big difference between 2 turnovers you almost never commit (one of which was unforced, another on a deflection) and allowing big plays because your defense was getting beaten.
  10. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 07:17 PM) Dee Brown wasn't very good last year, a step back from his first three years.. He cost them a lot, IMO. Don't tell anybody in Champaign that (even though it's, you know, true). Was it his fault that he wasn't very good outside of the memorable game against MSU? No, but it is what happened.
  11. QUOTE(danman31 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) Hart was the best player on the field tonight. It's a shame Troy Smith will get the Heisman because Hart deserves it more IMO. Did you watch the game? Hart wasn't even the best running back on the field, let alone player. I didn't hear what he said, but whatever it was, he was wrong. Ohio State made 2 uncharacteristic mistakes that gave Michigan 10 free points (and a 3rd that Michigan failed to take advantage of), and still won the game. Not sure how people could debate who the better team is, other than the whole turf excuse. And after all, the bad field helped Ohio State, since they are a team based more on speed and cuts, rather than the power that Michigan likes to use.
  12. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) this team is too young to be better off. THere are going to be games where the shots aren't falling and there is going to be no one to pick up the slack. Last year dee won a few games by himself, remember the MSU game? They are no where near a better team without some sort of senior leadership. Right now, your right. But when healthy, you have a couple seniors and you have 3 guys who are money from the perimeter, as well as a lot of big bodies. Until they are healthy, it's still a problem, but this team when healthy has too many scoring options to have an off night. And even if they do, this defense is very good.
  13. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) wow, that's a ridiculous comment. While i do understand what you're trying to say. This team has alot of raw talent and all season to figure out how to play as a team. This team is without a real leader at the moment, someone needs to emerge as the go to guy when the shots aren't falling. If that can happen, this team will have success this season. How is it ridiculous? Last years team just stood around and hoped Dee and Augie would do everything, and as a fan who watches the games, I know you realize that (especially with Dee). This team isn't as good and isn't a better team without those 2, but I think in the long run they are better off because guys are actually getting their chance and you are seeing better team defense and a much better version of the motion offense being run right now.
  14. QUOTE(Brian @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 11:26 AM) Just stick with the Salukis today and get them in the playoffs. If Michigan wins, I hope people aren't surprised and I hope it isn't considered an upset. The teams are even. And if Michigan wins, we'll hear about how it was for Bo until Jan 8th. Yep the teams are definitely even. But it's at Ohio State, and Smith is just so much better than Henne, that i'd consider it a mild upset if Michigan wins. And I'm rooting for Ohio State just so I won't have to hear about how Michigan won for Bo.
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 09:07 AM) This is one of the first things in a long time that's been hyped to death, and I'm still excited about it. My official prediction: 27-17 Ohio State. When games are this evenly matched, I just take the team with the better QB, and plus tOSU is at home.
  16. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 01:59 AM) Warren Carter looks really good, this was the first game I got to watch... he started off fast but got some ticky tack fouls especially the 3rd one. When we get everyone healthy we might actually be pretty good. We just dominated a team, down 3 starters, that gave Duke fits. This team is better off without Dee and Augie. There, I said it, because it's true. Without having those 2 to stand around and watch, they actually have to play as a team and show what they as players can do, and some interesting things are showing up. Once everybody is healthy (hopefully by Big 10 time), they could surprise a lot of people. The talent is obviously there once they are healthy.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 18, 2006 -> 01:38 AM) Deron was in foul trouble early on as well. Most improved player in the NBA right now. And I really think Orlando has a chance at taking the Southeast Division as well. Miami look very lethargic at the moment. As for the Bulls, they're just having problems scoring, and when they can't hold teams to say under 90 points defensively, they're going to struggle to win. Miami seems happy with those rings from last year. My preseason prediction was Orlando to win the southeast, and I got laughed at, so I hope it happens so I get last laugh though. And the Bulls biggest problem is they can't play any defense to be honest. Tonight they just got beated on, but most of these losses (Dallas, Houston, Sacramento) were because the defense didn't show up.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) So not exactly a great start to the season for the Bulls is it? 3-6 now, and the Knicks actually have a better record now at 4-6 after their win over a Shaqless Miami today. As for Orlando things are going very nicely right now (knock on wood). 6-3 and our depth at the guard position is really amazing right now, as Bogans only gets about 5 mins a game, and the likes of Diener and Redick don't get any gametime which pretty much wouldn't be the case on any other NBA team. The schedule is brutal, but I thought they'd be 5-4 right now. I figured they'd beat Sac Town and Houston, but they didn't (although should have). Maybe this is just another 42-40, 6 or 7 seed playoff team, boo. Oh, and Utah is 8-1 and Deron had 27 and 8 tonight. MVP!! MVP!!! Also, Miami might be in trouble. 3-5 isn't good, Shaq out 4 to 6 weeks minimum isn't good, and losing at home by 24 to the Knicks is a prime sign that they are in for a bad stretch.
  19. The Illini are going to be better than I thought whenever Jamar and Randle get healthy. The only guy surprising me right now in this makeshift group to be honest is Brock, but then again I guess he was POY in Chicago for a reason. His mid range jumper is solid, he's played spectacular defense, and if he can hit some 3's like he did in this game, he could be a real contributor. He's been in the program so long that you forget he's only a sophomore, hopefully the light clicked on for him.
  20. NIU blows out CMU 31-10. A bizarre game since we hadn't beat anybody all year, and then blow out the only team in the MAC undefeated in league play and the champs of the west. Wolfe had over 200 yards and 3 scores and broke Michael Turner's school record for career rushing yards. We'll beat 1-10 EMU next week on the road to finish 7-5, and then it's about 50/50 if we'll make a bowl or not.
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Iowa isn't going to be as bad as people think this year, but they won't be anything special. Haluska was 2 for 15 today, and they still won easily. Tyler Smith, who is going to be REALLY good, scored 28 in just his 2nd (or 3rd, I forget) collegiate game. Yeah, they are very young, but they will be pretty good.
  22. I was able to bet on Iowa as a 1.5 point favorite today, on a neutral court, against Toledo. EASIEST MONEY i've made on NCAA Hoops in ages, as Iowa led all the way and won by 13 on a neutral court.
  23. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:58 PM) One interesting thing to note... A top Japanese lefty reliever is going to be posted real soon... The Cubs are trying to make a deal for Westbrook that involves Eyre, most feel that is why they did this. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) ONE season. Shingo had one good season too, was it a mistake to let him go?
  24. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 11:28 AM) And in case it hasn't been mentioned, earlier in the week Bruce shot down the idea of the Sox going after Rowand. He says the organization views Rowand as a 4th OF. That's because that is what Rowand is. Don't tell people around here that though. And THANK GOD this nonsense was shot down. 3/15 for Alex Gonzalez would be the worst contract since Jamie Navarro. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) Levine is better than anyone else covering the Sox beat when it comes to situations like this. He takes far too much s*** here. Correct. He just shouldn't report non Chicago stories, ever. But he knows his stuff here.
  25. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Nov 17, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) I'm going to make an outrageous prediction. Frank retires at the end of this contract with 600 homers. Even if he stays healthy, he'd have to hit about 56 a year the next 2 I believe to get to 600. I doubt that will happen, but I'll say he stays healthy for one of the years, gets hurt a lot the other, and ends up hitting about 50 homers up there. 2 years and 18 million isn't actually too bad, but 2 years, HUGE risk. Oh, and there is a 10 million dollar team option for the 3rd year? Well that means Frank will leave bitter at them for not picking it up, even if he stays healthy the 2nd year of the deal.
