QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 09:49 AM) I think you conveniently missed that part. He gets under people's skin but he doesn't use out-and-out insults. There's a difference there, because personalities clash but it's not like he's on the warpath going after people personally. Also to be debating this indicates how unbelievably bored I am .yikes.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) So you say you have no evidence of anything, no history, no similarities, yet you expect your opinion to be just as valued as a medical professional who has experience in this exact area. Then if people don't give your opinion the same weight, it is Soxtalk Group Think, all in capital letters. Read that sentence again, and as yourself why people think you troll. Marty is a guy who posts here. He doesn't insult people. Why is that we treat him like this villain when he's simply a guy who posts here? If he thinks there is group think here, and it blinds us to a few things, and wants to point it out, it's his right. No one needs to take offense to that. o i forgot he's cowley

Arguing with Marty basically is the White Sox offseason thus far. What fun. Gimme more please

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) I sure hope Tyler Flowers can hit because this is one of those offseasons where the Sox are doing nothing. Keppinger for Youkilis is a blah move on paper. And Flowers for AJP is a downgrade as well, except for defense. And AJ's throwing ability was better last season for whatever reason. Note: The offseason is not over yet. QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) I agree 100%! Looks like Greg has a buddy now. Lets drink til our hearts stop.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) A move from Texas to LA has to increase Hamilton's chances of relapse at least twofold, right? It's much easier to follow God down South. SATAN KNOWS NO AREA CODE

QUOTE (Lamar Johnson 23 @ Dec 13, 2012 -> 10:44 AM) Just wondering...a previous poster mentioned that DeAza was a better ballplayer than Ichiro; could somebody please try to explain this inane comment? Ichiro has gotten substantially worse. Old and showing it.

Toby Hall was more a fan of giving someone the high pie When he injured himself throwing a pie on television, I laughed 1000 laughs.

There was a point where Swisher would hit a homerun and not get one high five That's a planned thing...but the thing is usually it's a prank that lasts maybe 30 seconds or so....not in this case

This is probably the last moment there is mystery to Viciedo. We have an all-star or a LF/1B version of Jorge Cantu But I think selling him as a 'potential allstar' will get mighty difficult next year onward.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) I can't wait until they visit Fenway. won't be able to tell though if it's BOO or YOOOK

Several here have to eat crow after prematurely calling him a hypocrite...for going to Cleveland after GASP he said he wouldnt mind playing in front of an excited packed house night after night Yes, who would want that.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) I really don't care if flowers hits like Ron karkovice if he calls a good game and plays good D I think it's easier to say this when you have a great offense in place around him. The hitting catcher is only to be called a luxury if the rest of your team makes that add up. Like Girardi in NYY. Put Flowers into last year's lineup, and we have the defense-first hole in the lineup at three spots 2B, SS, C. Then, if you're like me, project to next year where we should assume another one joins that mix (LF? either Rios or Dunn?). I don't want more lineup holes, I want fewer. We have to acknowledge AJ was carrying a huge load. But I also won't miss the swinging at everything inflation of batting average, so I'm definitely open to the Sox' creativity this offseason. I expect Flowers to hit, or else be a career backup. That's what our Javy trade created as far as expectations...and this coming year looks like we finally get an extended look.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 03:50 PM) In limited ABs, Tyler Flowers actually has a higher OPS against RHP than LHP, and neither has ever created too much of a problem for him. I don't worry about that so much as just getting a good backup as an insurance policy. You're right. I'm more so just concerned about that sudden drop off in power for his at-bats against righties. If you're an everyday player (and right-handed)...you've got to do what you do well...well. But again, he's still so unknown in that regard, maybe I'm wrong to even point out what his strength is 'supposed' to be

QUOTE (RudyLawRules @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 03:36 PM) More ADA speculation: http://www.sportsworldreport.com/articles/...alternative.htm Gotta love this writer. Says 'a prospect would be too much to give up' for ADA.....but we're supposedly going to be more than happy to take on whatever relief arms they want to dump. Speculation fit for the recycle bin.

For what it might be worth, Boers on 670 has maintained that the Sox don't actually think super highly of Flowers. The last time I heard that said on-air, mind you, was last year mid-year. I can't imagine why that would be, as he has the minor league history and not-awful major league experience so far. Maybe the one issue is-- we just STILL don't know what to make of this guy. Is he the minor leaguer who piled up OBP and had some power? Or the major leaguer who doesn't get on base but has considerable power production? Defensively, we expected bad and actually got good-- but how big a sample have we? We're sort of backed into being win-now, but that still works with Tyler if we are reappropriating the would-be AJP money. Flowers against righties is still questionable enough to mean we should seek a veteran lefty C
-
I hadn't really thought about this a ton, but one really does cover some bases by getting a guy in place who could perhaps handle some LF and then switch to 1B if you get PK-deterioration Dayan also kind of fits that bill, although what a great arm to be wasting at first base. On a really amazing team though, unquestionably Dayan is a 1B (or not on it, hah). Trading Rios is not all that crazy sounding when you consider (1) sell high moment (2) what Pagan got (3) what we could net ourselves by paying a little of that contract.....to a cheap near-contender that has prospects to burn

Maybe one day he too can be a sabermetrics exemplar -- and have high RBI totals in an awful season, like dear old dad
-
This may seem like quibbling, but once a guy is put in a position of power and decision-making, it's not fair to go back and look at his quotes from a time where he didn't have the power, and was more just going along with decisions that those higher up made.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 06:51 AM) "might be" carries a very wide probability range. I could say I "might be" fat and I "might be" sleeping with Kate Upton tonight, yet the likelihoods of both statements are vastly different. Probably just the Sox putting things out there as a favor to AJ's leverage w/ other teams also, jesus christ, is kate upton in about 90% of the conditionals these days?
-
Dislike of a player from his years on another club absolutely cannot stop you from doing what is best for the team. We don't know if there is a move, or what other possible moves would be out there. But it is pretty messed up to hate a guy forever because of HRs he hit against us. The entire point would be to add him and then he'd be on YOUR team. Problem solved

QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Dec 10, 2012 -> 11:58 AM) is this some new news here? or just our speculation that we are going after a left-handed bat I wondered this too, but if I'm not mistaken...there's nothing new at all going on

I'm envious of people with long Sox history and family reasons for it. I feel like so many people I know...it's "my family was all Cubs fans" or something along those lines. It feels odd to become a fan out of opposition to something, but hey that's how things get going I guess......in all kinds of situations, not just this one Also for anyone in their 30s..it's already been mentioned...but Frank Thomas is such a big part of things. He was a star in a period of time where star players were at a heightened focus (endorsements etc) ..and the cubs at that point in the 90s didnt have any. Not at that level, anyway
