  1. Ventura was quoted as saying the MRI is "not clean" (maybe i'm paraphrasing) So this was out there....but swept under the rug a bit
  2. Can't really say the Sox problem is motivation. We're a high SLG team with low OBP. When you sign up for that, you know there will be droughts. We're hitting one at a bad time. It's difficult to face as a fan, but talent trumps motivation concerns in a playoff race. You can't get your neat reasoning for lack of production in a situation like this.
  3. save is a made up stat no reason to base decisions off it Sure a closer maybe benefits from knowing their role each time out...but I can no longer defend that thinking when I see lefty hitters just regularly come in and bash in a RHP closer time and time again. or at least hit the ball hard.
  4. If anyone had asked us a year ago-would we want to be at this point- we'd of course say yes What's happening to us lately is a regression to the mean...earlier in the year it was found money every place we looked. That's easy to forget about now. Most teams have ups and downs. Basically, we just have to get in...and once you're in, the playoffs can sometimes be a chaotic thing that works in your favor. I don't think we're championship-level talent, but some years you don't have to be and still get far.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) Viciedo's been awful for the past two months. This month is his second best OPS month. If your standards for Viciedo are gigantic that's one thing, but as for what he is..presently.. September he has been meeting that need. A slug-first player that basically gives you ONLY that.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2012 -> 04:30 PM) Just another hitless AB with RISP smile.gif People are focusing on one awful game from Viciedo. The ones that hurt don't mean more than the ones that don't...and he has had a good September for his standards. Fathom if you don't like what Viciedo just did...I don't know what we can say about your General Baseball Knowledge But perhaps your smile is meant to clear you.
  7. So -- the Twins What are the Bears on or something...?
  8. Time to address the Beckham situation in the offseason. The fact we're falling all over ourselves over this month he has just had...is perhaps the most telling thing.
  9. Sox are good, not amazing. Get into the playoffs and it's chaotic enough where any team has a chance. That's basically all one has to visualize.
  10. Worst part of that is it was brought on by our anemic production with a runner on third. Makes a runner think we have to try for it even when we don't have it.
  11. Youk can certainly make pitchers work. We could replace him next year, but we'll miss that aspect.
  12. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 07:21 PM) I have to ask, have the Sox ever "not stopped" after Hawk says font stop now boys?! I don't think I've ever seen it. Maybe they're mishearing him
  13. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Sep 20, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) If we can't beat 2 of the worst pitchers in the AL in Chen and Guthrie, despite our past against them, we don't deserve to play in the playoffs and face actual good pitchers. We lose tonight, we are in trouble. We win tonight, Detroit wins, we are 50/50 imo. We win tonight, Detroit loses, we have the edge, albeit slight. I gotta think someone will step up and we crush Guthrie, but Liriano keeps it close, bullpen shuts it down. 7-6 white sox Detroit is going to lose some games before the season ends. Being two games up means being two games up, nothing more, nothing less. Sox can win tonight and not get it done in the end, or not win and end up fine later on. When Detroit shows me they can field a ball, I will start turning up my fear levels.
  14. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 10:03 PM) s***ty f***ing effort. Their ineptitude against this team is so frustrating. We don't get on base. Lets not just assume it's poor effort, when we in fact lost the way one would expect us to lose. The shocker would be games where we pitch poorly, or fail with the glove. Those have been our strengths.
  15. The Royals have a genius strategy of having an awful team except for the late inning relievers. The exact thing you don't want to be the one thing you have
  16. This is one of Viciedo's best months. Now we want him benched after one game. Every day it's a new paranoia. Wise suddenly elevated to godlike status. I like Wise but he's the guy on this team with a PH track record, and his slugging is due for a return to career norms
  17. Viciedo is a power hitter. Instead of taking away his aggressiveness, I'd rather he just keep concentrating on pitch selection. As of late it's been better. Lets not completely reinvent a guy-- lets improve already-existing strengths. When pitchers start fearing him, and he realizes that -- that's when this current approach is going to pay off in a bigger way.
  18. The Sox are still a team that has to look to develop a nearly-very-good talent when possible. That's Viciedo. You don't give up on one of your few guys that is both ready yet also has upside. Also September has shaped up to being his 2nd best OPS month of the year
