QUOTE (Caesar @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 07:17 PM) Now Wise is up. Prove me wrong Dwayne It's easy. Anyone can do it -
QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 03:10 PM) Imagine how many pages if it had been Brian Anderson. You watch your mouth. If Brian Anderson had only been developed properly by the organization, he was going to become Mickey Mantle.

Extra inning games are games where your worst relievers have to pitch. I hang this one on the moribund offense.

Delabar: On June 7, he signed a deal with the independent Florence Freedom of the Frontier League, where he played four games before signing with the independent Brockton Rox of the Canadian-American Association, going 3–3 in 11 starts with a 3.01 ERA. He played all of 2009 with Brockton, where he had a 3.36 ERA in 12 appearances. His 2009 season ended when he fractured his right elbow,[1] which had to be wired back together and stabilized with the insertion of a steel plate with nine screws.[2] He did not play professionally in 2010, working as a substitute teacher in his hometown of Elizabethtown, Kentucky at John Hardin High School. He also played slow pitch softball, where he won the 2010 Louisville Invitiational Tournament Miken Homerun Derby

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:32 PM) My whole point is that his 49 spotty ABs don't really mean a whole lot as an indication of how worthy he is There's a lot more to Danks' history than 49 at-bats. We have a lot of data on what kind of hitter he is (again, he's not young). The following should not be interesting, but the thread here has made it so: Wise AAA stats: .266/.317/.458... OPS .775 AA stats: .276/.326/.450... OPS .777 Danks AAA stats: .260/.346/.420... OPS .776 AA stats: .243/.337/.356... OPS .693 *Danks has had 284 AA at-bats, but 1100 in AAA.

AJ Pierzynski Deserves Lifetime Sox Contract

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) Can you picture a scenario in which the White Sox ever replace Robin Ventura? He's proven he's not a buffoon and knows how to manage, which is not rocket science. Jerry Manuel - Manager of the Year in '00, gone by end of '03. Classy, experienced early success....yet all that guarantees you nothing, nor should it. -
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) But 49 at bats is totally large enough! And his defense is far better than simply solid Look at the careers of Danks and Wise. They're both bad hitters. So the Sox going with the veteran is fine by me, because it's a total non-issue. They're both bad hitters that should not be playing much when we're back to full strength. I love how Robin actually lets baseball players play every day that should (and sits those that shouldn't). The game is not nearly taxing enough for all the rest some managers give people throughout a year. Under Robin, I am fine with mediocrity on my bench replacing other mediocrity. I do also believe that a veteran in the postseason makes more sense than a total rook (in cases where talent is equal).

Dick Allen speaking a lot of truth in this thread. So many on this board let the tide take them way up and way down. The Danks HR took people way up. Everything else he is should be taking you back down soon enough, whenever he gets back. Thanks much for the HR, but it was one at-bat. Personnel decisions aren't based on small sample sizes, and his defense and athleticism are not exceptional they're just solid.

I have to give him credit, he has really Enhanced his performance in this free agent year -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2012 -> 05:05 PM) Dumb is not looking at the facts. Wise career OPS .639 and close to .800 this season. Danks OPS after his homer, .621. This brings up the important point that --they're both bad

Once Viciedo went down I just started fastforwarding Danks' at-bat

QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 10, 2012 -> 10:20 PM) I don't care what comes out of their mouths, but can we get these reporter girls to wear skimpier outfits? Please. That's all I ask for. It's 2012. If you want that I suggest checking out this new contraption:The Internet

Report: Sox unlikely to pick up Youk's option
Princess Dye replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would be fine with Morel if healthy enough to bring that defense. Reason being: we are free to upgrade positions other than 3B to make up the difference. Many ways to win. -
Return of an All-Star: Sale vs Royals

Jesse Crain is Canadian. I demand these military guys be presented with Real Americans, dammett -
As Wise lives in Charlotte, it may just be he signed with us to be at home, regardless of any hope of a callup
-
Since we don't have a constant need for defensive replacements in the infield... I'd also like one of our backup IFs to be a speed guy for PR purposes.

I could probably be a pretty good major league mgr like tomorrow
