Substitute Gamethread: Sox vs Astros
No second guessing that one. Try to score in a game like this.

You're KW, what next?
To be the "most asked about" implies nothing about what was offered (could have been very little from multiple teams) and to say he's "most asked about" White Sox sadly tells more about our offseason state of affairs than anything it says about Lilli.

GT: Astros (Lyles) @ Sox (Sale), 6/9 3:10 PM
De Aza has to be the biggest story of this year. Maybe more so than Sale even, based on how long we've expected good things from him

Sox sign Orlando Hudson
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) What evidence have you seen that the Sox are in good position to trade for a 3b? I dont think we'll make a trade, but obviously we could get a 3b with a deal involving some of our youth. Just because some publications rank us whatever, it doesn't mean we dont have young players that would interest a club.

Sox sign Orlando Hudson
It's the battle of the guy with more overall talent in all areas (but with brain lapses) versus the efficient guy low on talent (Morel). Over the course of a regular season, you have to figure the former guy is of more value than the latter guy. Brain lapses will cost you a game here or there, but having a noodle for a bat will be a year long frustration, ending innings, putting more pressure on other hitters in the lineup, etc. If you see a few bad plays and they frustrate you, and based on that you want to dump a guy, that's bad logic. Evaluations have to be made over longer periods of time than your last four beers consumed.

GT: Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) He's had about 7 miscues at 3rd in the last two weeks. For every tough play he makes, he botches a routine play. The biggest problem is that most of his miscues have come in big spots. Nah there's no such thing as a "clutch" fielder. Or a non-clutch one. Over the whole range of plays a 3B tends to face, I want someone who is passable, handles most of em, and whose bat isn't a noodle. We need a larger sample size but he can be that (because it isn't much to be that). Unless we want to decimate the farm system again-- I don't see us adding any other 3Bs. Could trade Floyd for it I suppose but I don't see it happening.

GT: Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) I couldn't be happier they won, but I respectfully disagree. So you're saying he won't make 40% of the plays? 30%? The ball Bautista hit won't be hit at him every game, and when it is, you can't say he's going to miss all of em. He'll make some of the really difficult plays and some he won't. Like we've seen the last week from him. Some of both.

There should be a way of taking this victory away from all posters who were calling for Morel's return. We have a guy here who will make most the plays at third and will provide some semblance of a bat if his career indicates

I know JorDanks has not batted before - but has he ever been with the team for a regular season game -- ever?

Viciedo was worth the wait, but now he is not worth the wait again The wait is appreciating and depreciating in value wildly

AJ clearly pissed. never believes he should be out of a game

Game Thread: TOR @ CHW, 6/6/12, 7:10pm
Obviously we can still come back and win -- but oh man was a six inning stretch like this overdue for us (on offense). We're not as good as we were the last few weeks offensively.

Orlando Hudson's decision to wear a glove really is making the difference for this team right now

2012 White Sox Catch-All thread
Is there any way the Sox keep Peavy for one more year on his huge option salary? They could rationalize to themselves $22M for Peavy and Quintana instead of $10M for Floyd and Quintana(plus in the mind of Jerry, you avoid the large Peavy buyout). And (hopefully) assume you keep getting this great value from young guys up and down the roster

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) This is the one time in life I honestly say Joe Cowley could be relevant here... Do not like Cowley's stances on things, but I think it's pretty clear that Twitter (and life) is less interesting with him not around anymore. As far as entertainment goes, I don't see how that can be disputed. As far as the bounds of (his) decency, that one is unsure. But he should be around, doing what he does. No Ozzie/No Cowley sadly leaves us only baseball. It's difficult.

Konerko #2 MLB most underrated player
In my opinion, to put Konerko on such a list really does him a disservice. It underrates him. As does this post.

2012 MLB draft talk
What are the chances Ravelo is very good to outstanding one day? I know little about him (perhaps that question makes this obvious)

2012 MLB draft talk
Speaking of CJ Retherford, I kind of wish this year we had a utility guy who could catch in a pinch. That way you have added flexibility with pinch-hitting, because you can use Flowers' power bat in any situation and not fear an AJ injury. And it would allow for more Flowers-at-1B. But I guess next year it's all moot as he's likely handed C.

1/3 of the way through the season
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 4, 2012 -> 10:00 AM) What does last year have to do with this year and this thread which was discussing this year? The first post specifically mentions De Aza's 2011 stats as part of its argument about him.

southsider2k - batting average is just one slice of the pie. focusing way too much on that. in the important categories, he is somewhere between 'very good' and absolutely carrying us

Jose Contreras has torn ligament & tendon
I heard somewhere that after his career he could rejoin the Sox in a latin american scouting capacity
