  1. Oooh Soxfest's post reminded me I was a minute away from live TV
  2. Marty, I'm sure it was mentioned earlier in the thread, but what is your solution to the issue? Is there some other young OF you want up here playing every day? If you think we're a win-now team, then yes I could see more Fukudome at-bats..sure. But if we're intent on building something this year, there's no question we need a bigger major league sample size on Viciedo, and this is the perfect year to see what we have there.
  3. A quick word, Balta.. ..this past offseason you really took me to task for doubting the importance of Morel's last month of 2011
  4. Beautiful Daniel Bryan/Hawk H mashup is so overdue
  5. Where (if anywhere) did Mitch Mustain end up going?
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 1, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) The Indians announcer is priceless..."he lost it in the stupid smoke from the fireworks!" Cleveland Hawk?
  7. QUOTE (MAX @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:39 PM) You are all over the map, saying I said things I didn't. Do your relatives even live in mexico? I am not making any points, subtle or otherwise about anyone I didn't have experience with. Peru, I've been there 4 times. On that side of my family I'm 1st generation in the U.S., lots of family still are there. You are right that I shouldn't put words in your mouth. You say that culturally the US and Mexico are in different places with regard to sexism. I would just state that there are sexists in Mexico that get away with s*** and some that get put in their place. Just like over here.
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:40 PM) I think you're just confused. Simple question Steve - if a racist wants Cowley fired for this, is that funny to you? My answer is yes.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) You just have completely missed the entire reason as to why Cowley doing what he did is different than say if I were to post "women have tiny brains" on Soxtalk. Again, I am not at all discussing here the ins-and-outs of workplace sexism, employers/employees and twitter and all that part of it. I understand that's a big part of it; it just simply isn't part of my initial post. All I'm saying is some people on soxtalk right now will have the following two mindsets 1) "the world is too P.C." and 2) "I wish Cowley would get fired". And as a result of the people here that have those two viewpoints, operating at once -- I'm merely saying I'm entertained. My point isn't any deeper than that.
  10. QUOTE (MAX @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) Mexico and the US are culturally in different places with regard to sexism. What does that have to do with race, genius? I'm half hispanic. Shall I just assume 1) my relatives are sexists 2) culturally they were never told not to be? Either you're assuming Latin America is unenlightened, and that everyone mistreats women, or you're making some more subtle point that I'm missing. I'll tell you what, my relatives in Beverly (on the other side of my family) are definitely the ones I catch saying drunk racist/sexist things at parties. Not the hispanic half of my family.
  11. I will admit, your post and your acceptance of Cowley are very logically consistent with each other. Kudos.
  12. QUOTE (MAX @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:21 PM) You should really learn to think before you make misguided, foolish remarks. OK, so enlighten me as to what you meant. I make the point that some people here condemn Cowley and then go on to make sexist or racist remarks, and then point out the part of your post that makes huge assumptions about the mindset of illegals, grouping them all together. And the part you vehemently deny is where I said you 'condemn Cowley'? Got it.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) This doesn't really compute. Said posters don't represent their employer on Soxtalk... at least not often. Again, I'm not saying that anyone should be fired from their position at Soxtalk. I'm saying there must be inner conflict. And if there isn't and it's replaced by blissful ignorance, that works too.
  14. QUOTE (MAX @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:10 PM) That's not true. There are some real backward s*** holes out there still. In my experience, a lot of illegals from mexico are living in the '50s when it comes to sexism. Gosh, I thought it'd take more than 20 seconds to prove me right. Guess not.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 30, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) Making sexist remarks over the internet to colleagues is grounds for termination no matter where you work these days. So I would say you havent scratched the surface of why its being discussed. I'm aware, there are many layers to all of this. It's just funny to me that people here will endlessly mention all the negative traits Cowley has, but then automatically assume they're innocent of all of them themselves. Not aimed at you or anyone in particular at the moment.
  16. There must be some posters here who both 1) hate Joe Cowley 2) employ that kind of sexist language on a regular basis Said folks must have loads of inner conflict today!
  17. Sun Times may be thrilled right now that people are actually busy caring about the Sun Times.
  18. Hawk blatantly misuses words like "syndrome" "time zone"
  19. Hawk really overdoes it with his emphasis on thought process holding hitters back. Some people are talented, some aren't. There have been some Grade A empty-headed individuals with .380 OBP. The "mental midget" complaint is at best overused, at worst a fabrication.
  20. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) What has Viciedo done to make anyone think he will be special though? If you only give a shot to the guys that have proven they are likely to be special, you are leaving stones unturned all over your organization. Look, not saying everyone deserves an extended shot at the major league level. But for me, it's: *the AAA totals *the hundred at-bats he had in the majors in 2010 *his age *the fact that right now there's no one blocking him........ all that's enough for me to say -- "lets get an extended look, we aren't likely to win a title this year, so at the very least lets sit him against some righties but otherwise let him prove himself" If this was another organization with tons of talented OFs, my line of thought on this might be too forgiving. But that's not where we're at.
