  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 25, 2012 -> 08:50 PM) At the risk of sounding critical, doesn't Viciedo just have to start taking some walks? I mean I do love the guy and realize he's hot, but he hacks at almost every single pitch. Once in a blue moon he lets a high fastball be. But not often. I think over time, our best hope is that he just take a few more walks per month. To require a total overhaul of him is probably asking a lot. If he slugs, he's worth it. If he doesn't, he's not.
  8. Can someone describe Quintana's last out? I left the room for a sec and missed it
  9. But isn't the larger fear this: We chase something that won't happen right now, when we likely have a golden opportunity to totally restart an organization that totally got depleted over the last ten years. The extra wild card will make people willing to deal like never before. Which side of that do we want to be on?
  10. my "edit" disclaimer went in late, my apologies.
  11. I am not a Kenny hater, but I have to say this-- the unwillingness to sell high on AJP right now (as far as trades) characterize Kenny as a GM. He's "Trader Ken" with guys who don't matter in the present, but when you have a real asset to move.....he becomes clench-fisted EDIT: Not to say he should've traded him already, but just knowing he won't. Flowers being there should matter, but I fear it doesn't.
  12. Robin Ventura commercials absolutely highlight why Snoop Dogg would be a big fan.
  13. You can tell which people don't follow anything but Chicago teams. These people: 1) thought there was no way Adam Dunn could hit HRs in 2012 2) thought Carlos Boozer couldn't get a decent FG% as a midrange guy over the course of a season. ever.
  14. It's gotta be so hard just coming into a team cold and getting a start out of the blue. I'm sure everyone here will sigh/swear/pant if Quintana melts down, but nonetheless I'll make that point.
  15. Obama has said in the past that the 90s Chicago teams are "his" teams, kind of noting that he isn't as quick to follow as of late. Hey, he's busy. To say the least.
  16. Ozzie is Iron Sheik steel chair to Jeff Samardzjia on the weekends Starlin Castro thinks he's Ravishing Rick Rude
  17. "eat s*** cubbies" for some reason really rolls off the tongue
  18. I don't say this from a Cubs-hating point of view, but if they're really trotting Kerry Wood out just as a farewell -- in an important moment in a game -- then they're reminding me of the Tribune ownership 1990s seasons that were purely a spectator-pleasing mission.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 18, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) You don't think he threw at Paulie on purpose? Did you see his interviews yesterday? He's a badass and threw at the guy who blasted a two-run home run. The interviews were just Samardzjia telling jokes. And by baseball player standards, he was f***ing hilarious doing it. Saying the same things people on these boards say about Sox telecasts.
  20. These moments invite so much unfortunate dumbness. Lets not get so against Samardzjia that we forget this could happen to a Sox pitcher just as easily, surely has. Also, if a Sox player hit a rocket right back at Samardzjia's head, surely half the crowd there would give a standing O, which would be ugly/dumb also.
  21. Yeah, but Alexei was barely pursued by anyone. If I'm not mistaken, there were multiple bidders for Viciedo, but we didn't really have to pay tons for him. So someone on the other MLB teams saw a problem with him, hence the holding back of offers....and I envision us being the ones who overpaid to make it happen. An earlier, cheaper Cespedes situation.
  22. I can't read threads sometimes, which I know means I should not post...but stop me if this is a misread of the situation: Konerko was thought of very highly as a young-young player, in part due to his catching, and was drafted in the first round. When Viciedo was young-young, every team had a shot at him, and he did not command a giant initial contract....thus him developing into a Paulie would be quite the shock down the road. But also not as much was known about him.
  23. RBI double by a young Dan McNeil De Aza's bat is good value in CF, occasional defense adventures will just have to be something we grin and bear
  24. Hawk wants to blame that walk for the following batter absolutely crushing a ball.
  25. Viciedo's beefy .580 OPS is going to make Marty retire from print journalism. Or the online message board variety.
