  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 06:44 AM) Lots happen recently while I have slept/napped. Bears sign Forte and now this. That sounds like a long nap
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:57 PM) I know he played well tonight, but I'm amazed at how many supporters Escobar has in this thread. Anyways, I now believe this is the most talented Sox team since the 2006 squad, assuming Sale and ADA are/stay healthy. That means we can go farther back, since the 2006 squad was more talented than the 2005 squad (considering no Frank of course in either)
  3. how would people here feel about a Drew Garcia call up
  4. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 11:41 PM) Dempster isn't necessary. Besides, Dempster hates water. Hah!
  5. as hawk might say 'what we have here is a chicken/egg scenario'
  6. Says much about our farm system how someone like Escobar can fly so high up the prospect rankings. This will be great for his career, he'll likely realize that once shock wears off. To hear him be emotional obviously will strike a chord with fans, as too often the evidence is of these guys being all about the $ and not the sentimental stuff. Yet one could argue moments like these are what make them later be all-business/me-first. Thus, chicken/egg
  7. Escobar is a nice player to have, but titles are foremost. If his bat is MLB level, it'll be a surprise. one of those rare late blooming things
  8. Great sign if the Sox biggest 2012 disappointment is Tyler Flowers' offense. At least it's in the running. And JohDanks' health
  9. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) the replay looks like the ball hit the ground no
  10. DV will bend his arm back on one of those, but for now I'll take it. Thanks El Duque Crain
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 09:13 PM) Some guys just can't focus without pressure. Many closers pitch their worst in non-save situations. Or they have a knack for taking advantage of excited overswingers
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 07:54 PM) Oh boy, it's pretty crazy that they can't figure out what's wrong yet they suggest surgery might be an option. We'll see you in 2014 Danks (and I hope that contract is insured, yikes!). He has been diagnosed, no?
  13. Hawk has used "it's all good" before, but no earlier than a year ago. He is usually 10 years or so behind the curve on using trendy sayings. I believe he trotted out SNL Rob Schneider's "-meister" suffix around 1999-2000.
  14. e before i except when typing it eene
  15. Everyone here loves Quintana's story, but you have to think this is the sell-high moment for him. Meanwhile to reduce the acquisition of Greinke to "just 10 games of Greinke" ignores the fact that in a playoff series you completely revamp the outlook for your team when you can run Greinke/Sale/Peavy out there in each series you get into.
  16. ADA is one heck of a scrap heap find. Have to credit KW,scrap heap is his strength.
  17. The Sox will look to make upgrades to try to take themselves to being an elite playoff talent -- but that won't come at the expense of Viciedo. He is the experiment that has to be just good enough to be worth it. And crudely stated, the reason for that is the playoffs are a chaotic thing, and we're either going to be the third best team in the AL making a crazy run to success, or we won't.
  18. Seeing Pierre's name in a few posts here-- just to clarify, his name wasn't actually brought up based on anything real, right?
  19. Hate to sound like Hawk, but damned if Escobar doesnt have Orlando Cabrera's mannerisms
  20. The bullpen tonight was immersion therapy for a Sox fan. Face your greatest fear by being completely engulfed in it. Bathtub full of spiders etc
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 12:18 AM) Hawk is gonna need a 2nd dose of metamucil and the fans call out "Muuuuuce"
  22. either anger or happiness are going to get dulled by sleepiness in a bit here
