Good thing I didn't vote for Real in the primaries, all this is gonna sink him in the general

One thing to consider with Peavy is that several mil that will be paid to make him go away, and then on top of that you likely have to replace his innings with some vet you are acquiring. So why not bring him back for one year (big money, but years-wise..a jerry favored course of action), dump Floyd's salary, and then at that point scour the farm/scrap heap for a Floyd replacement. That way you keep your top three guys for another year (Danks/Peavy/Sale) and take the hit on backend of rotation. Better than taking that hit at the top Complicating this of course is the now apparent need to pay AJ again.

Predictable open firing here on Reed, but really he's a closer and I don't have expectations for him to be 'special' There are some elite closers but we have just another one of those guys who walks a tightrope. The nice thing about Reed though is capacity for improvement, which you can't say about the other guys. Everyone here would love an elite guy to materialize, but you have to sometimes take some lumps to get to that point. The whole Jenks thing in '05 spoiled everyone and deluded many

The thing with message boards is, outside of terms of service violations or whatever...everything else can and will be said. There's no gatekeeper. So to wish people wouldn't say certain things is really just not what the message board medium is. Openness to all points of view is kind of...the point. That's why I say --without any anger, attitude or anything-- quite frankly no one is forcing you to post here if you don't like that openness. Now, if Caesar posts something improper with regard to the rules, that's another matter entirely. It's kind of like how people get irate about Facebook changes. No one is holding a gun to your head telling you keep your account alive.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) You're not stating anything. You're begging them not to f*** up. Should we all sit silent? It's a message board. You don't have to be here if you don't want.

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) we are talking about multiple clutch hits. You'll start hating me for beating a dead horse, I know-- but wouldn't it be safe to say that plenty of BAD players in MLB history have had multiple clutch hits? AJ is a decent hitting catcher, but this year is making people forget the guy who swings and swings endlessly to aid batting average but also create outs. I want this year to be what he really is, of course. but the larger accumulation data is what he really is.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 01:58 PM) Konerko is hitting .325 THIS YEAR, with an OBP over .400. My comments (just mine) were not directed at Konerko (except in a totally separate post I made, which was about him)

QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 01:53 PM) That is exactly why. Plus I think Paulie & AJ are just better hitters than Rios. The guy is having a great season, but so are Paulie & AJ. As for the Counsell or Mauer question I really see no point in answering that. There's plenty of point in it. Just because someone has had a clutch hit in the past, it does not indicate how many clutch hits they will have in the future. Baseball is a chaotic game, period. yet tons of energy is expended on making it not so. So to want AJ to bat over better hitters because "he has been clutch" is not a good reason at all.

The thing with Konerko is the decline we've always been waiting for and never getting......the tale of Jermaine Dye shows how that decline--when it does come--can be painfully immediate when it does set in
-
QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 01:47 PM) In a CLUTCH situation my list would honestly be: Paulie AJ Then Rios Why are things changing in a clutch situation? Because someone has been clutch in big moments in the past? Would you rather have Craig Counsell or Joe Mauer up bottom of the ninth two outs down one with runners on?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) Flowers grounded into fielder's choice, Viciedo out at 2nd, run scored. lemme rephrase - what were the circumstances of the out? Some said it should've been a DP? Bad call?

Stuck on Gamecast - what happened?

DA-hell of a little player -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) That article kinda sucked. How he can say we're getting zero contributions from the farm (Sale, Jones, etc etc) If you go right from Sale down to Jones, then that in and of itself shows how minimally the farm system has been producing. Jones has not done a ton yet. Teams that rely on their own homegrown talent being in their own uniforms eventually do have far better talent than this current White Sox organization, so Cameron's point is valid.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 08:43 AM) Laurence Holmes @LaurenceWHolmes I have no specifics, but I'm told #Whitesox are "a little busy" trying to get some stuff done before trade deadline. don't be surprised. A few weeks ago, Laurence told a long, emotional story on the air, with lots of poignant voice inflection. But at story's end it ended up just being an account of him going into Piece and ordering a pizza to go

All this "mentally weak" stuff about Gavin is such garbage. He's an OK starter, not amazing. I don't see why an interesting narrative has to be created about each particular guy

Hawk needed a good 2-3 seconds to get over that catch

End of every Gavin Floyd start gets the comment "even though Gavin didn't have his __ pitch tonight..."

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2012 -> 05:40 PM) And we now have yet another rookie on the team, 2B/SS Rey Olmedo. Doubt we'll even see him once, it will be like Heath. Olmedo has major league experience in 5 different seasons

Sox eager to move Floyd, other notes
Princess Dye replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So is the idea we'd trade Floyd for a starting pitcher that becomes a free agent this offseason? Perhaps to a team that has trouble getting free agents to come to them?
