  1. QUOTE (SnB @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 09:09 AM) Olmedo needs to go the way of Jose Paninangua and never be heard from again. Hey now
  2. The ironic way of proving yourself to your doubters... YYYEAH!!!
  3. However, the Top 6,000 List is frankly littered with White Sox prospects
  4. The rise of the internet -- and the fact it took a good chunk of the domain once owned by television/radio -- is in part due to the fact that there are no gatekeepers. On TV, the powers-that-be feed you what you consume. The internet has an unlimited number of sources. The upside being: more information, the downside: unfiltered, unknown quality. If you want the message board to be just like the Chicago Tribune, then the best choice is probably to leave the message board. It will never live up to what you want. This is the place to discuss the Usain Bolt PED use that the media will not touch, because we are not a news station. We ARENT reporting on a newscast. If you think no such place should exist, then it's very easy to just close the message board account -- because this is the place for (potentially) ALL topics (besides the sliver barred by the rules). Other places are available if all you want is what's been reported. It's basically my grandmother's exposure to media that you want.
  5. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) AJ gets no respect. probably worked super hard in the offseason. There are a lot of guys using. It's millions of dollars to their benefit to do it in their mid to late 30s. When you get that old, you don't risk that much getting caught, because you are already on the downside. We can't be this naive about our own guys. If you see it happening league wide, you have to accept that you also have rooted for PED-users in the past (as well as probably now). It's way too self-assuring to just assume the White Sox are that one drug-free team.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 03:15 PM) Guilty until proven innocent. The new normal in the Internet age. Which is fine, and pretty much the point of a message board. I'm saying he's guilty, even though I do not have a positive test behind it. Lets also add: I'm not a columnist, or an MLB governing body. I'm someone simply posting here. And what informs my belief is not just this huge spike in power (at age 35, in a free agent year).... but additionally the fact that baseball itself --the league and its ever-expanding players-- put me in a position to have to think that way. Unless I'm out to be naive on purpose (just for my own team's guys). To clarify even further, I'm not as devastated by steroid use as some here are-- after all I like the NFL-- but that would be an entirely different discussion.
  7. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 11:52 AM) I'd be crushed if this were true. Based on what we've seen in MLB's recent history, there absolutely cannot be any shock over this. His best power numbers at age 35, plus a free agent year. I'm not talking about rumors, just saying --he's using-- regardless of this 'report'
  8. It's not enough to win a game. You are supposed to win a game in a blemish-less way involving zero luck. Oh wait I have never watched baseball before.
  9. Seemed like a great guy. To be honest I found the Green Mile a little trite (moreso the story), but it could be worth revisiting. Had a great voice for narration, as most/many of us have said '05 DVD in our collection
  10. Scal has been a worthwhile role player in the NBA. He shouldnt be treated as a novelty. Played real minutes earlier in his career, and could shoot the three. Has been a decent versatile bench defender. He actually played a lot of minutes for those good Boston teams.
  11. Just a quick note on Hawk's possibly failing vision.......there has been some evidence this year that he's watching the monitors, not the field. Perhaps out of necessity? As others have noted, very routine flyballs are getting the HR treatment. His undying hope is now mixing with perhaps some failing physical attributes. Man, now I wish I had been nicer earlier in the thread.
  12. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 02:25 PM) Not a fan of this philosophy. On some level, you have to make pitchers fear you. Be as discerning as you want, you won't draw walks until there's some reason that has been put forth to make someone not want to pitch to you. I think Flowers' MLB career (versus what he was able to do in the minors) has started to illustrate this. We know he can be judicious - his brain is capable of it. But he wont get walked here until the bat does something over a period of time. Obviously it's everyone's preference to have all components present in a hitter from the start, but the vast majority of guys have to go about creating one reputation and then adjusting to that reputation.
  13. I too cannot imagine the Sox without Hawk one day. But that says nothing about his quality, just his longevity. It has to be said -- his inability to be open to new developments in baseball just absolutely hurt how seriously we can take him. His allergy to statistics (of almost any sort) and the fact he almost never acknowledges PED's influence on the game, under any context EVER, indicates that he'd rather live in his own fantasy world forever than get with the times and provide the information we need as viewers. He should want to be a better announcer, instead of settling for being The Hawk, year-in, year-out. I actually do like his sayings and HR call, which are what more people probably dislike than anything I listed
  14. he is good at being a legend, that i'll grant him
  15. jordan4life, first time I'll ever agree with you. You are free to like what you like. Purveyors of any product love the kind of group think going on in response to your post. They send their kids to college ten times over on it.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:48 PM) Honestly, let's worry about this thread at the end of October, after we've won the Series. I have this wild thing I do with threads I don't care for: I don't post in them. If a thread's called "2013," and you don't want to think about 2013, then (and I actually mean this with no offense at all) it's probably best not to go in them.
  17. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) I'm not worried about 2013 right niow. 2012 is the priority. Stunning that this post happened, did not see that one coming
  18. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 02:26 PM) Derek Jeter was drafted out of high school, and he did not show any power in his first two years in org ball. Now he's a threat to get 4000 hits in MLB. Give the kid a chance. side note: how depressing that basically every career turnaround made since the late 80s has to be taken with a grain of salt as far as being natural performance. Are we at the point where the guys who turn their careers around dramatically are just automatically users, and those who just always sucked were the clean ones? Maybe not in reality, but in perception...it's getting there
  19. Princess Dye posted a topic in Pale Hose Talk
    1) List the sure-fire current guys that are leaving the team 2) What can I expect to have payroll wise to spend in the face of those departures 3) What farm guys could be up and in what kind of role 4) Add possible x-factor/no one saw coming/whatever
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 12:46 PM) Ha, interesting, mine too. Maybe I will see you there and have no idea who you are. i will be the one with the sox hat
  21. My first time in the patio area. Any advice? Best to arrive even earlier than 5:30pm?
  22. it's impossible to dislike joe girardi
  23. Girardi argued with a Sox fan during his press conference??
  24. QUOTE (Cali @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 09:43 PM) Spent too many damn years looking up at the Twins and asking the same thing. Good to be on top of that scenario. They're running out of games and I love it Kind of funny but we're like the new Twins. Perhaps not the most talented team in the division, but for the most part we execute and play well enough to win close games.
