QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 03:44 PM) Good post. Lexi is gone. The know at the very least, they've got Saladino who can play short and hit about .230 over the course of a long season if Anderson isn't ready. Tim Anderson is not ready. They're actually doing a good job being patient with him at AA and he's rewarding them by improving his game. Continue that.

Appears Eaton's shoulder is ok enough for him to get into the lineup. Personally again I'd leave him out after having to come out of the game yesterday, but that's just me. No doubleT after a 2 hit game for him yesterday.

I don't think I've made a gamethread all year, but it's time for one to appear.

So since I last looked the Iraq war was described as "less than ideal" and we got an argument for why the war with Iran has already started. Yup, that's about what I expected. That's a helluva "those who do not learn from history" post right there.

QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) i have been thinking about this for the past week. it keeps coming up with this, at least for me. i am thinking, saladino needed to have experience at the top level. this is his intro to the big time. that was why i asked a previous question on something like this. why, to see what the org in him and to get him ready for the SS position. i am also thinking the sox does not want to invest in Alexei for next season, so have saladino as the temp, for at least a yr. until anderson is ready. if not anderson, then deal with the possible trading for a prospects. This makes a lot of sense to me too. Problem is I just can't figure out where to put everyone next year. I want to see Micah up, but I also think if Sanchez is going to make it he'll be at 2b. Micah can't play 3b with his arm, he's got to be at 2b. Saladino is the only one who it seems to make sense could take over 3b for a full season, Sanchez could take over SS, and Johnson at 2b, but then Saladino and Sanchez are both playing at positions that probably aren't their best long term spots. And then I still think they'll probably pick up Alexei's option, because they'll be convinced they have a competitive team next year and they'll think Alexei can be a part of that.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) Saladino will be a decent utility guy but I don't think he is starting material, and I don't think the Sox FO does either. His bat's probably not a starting caliber bat even if he's an above average defender at 3b, but if he's an above average defender at SS his bat could make him an extremely valuable SS.

QUOTE (L. Ron Paultard @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) Abhor politics haha, but just couldn't just pass this one by. Balta, can I ask you a question: does it bother you on any level that literally EVERY single administration talking points you are parroting above.... is absolutely, 100% demonstrably wrong/false??? From the 24-days notice nonsense (it's actually closer 90 days w. the appeal process... plus severely restricted access in the first place renders the whole thing a giant joke) the false "negotiations capitulation or war" binary choice the need for 10 year land invasion ignorance of the Apocalyptic Twelver goals etc, etc, etc I don't know it's bizarre. A veritable tidal wave or orgy of stupid when it comes to this issue. Granted among my friends I am only moderately liberal so maybe I am not meant to "get" the collective visionary genius that is Alinsky-Soros-Valerie Jarrett axis... Seriously, Balta are you for real re: sanctions regime and supposed total lack of leverage on the part of the US? Really? Are you forgetting who is the freaking SUPER-POWER here? Hint: "Hey Brussels, so you desperately want that free-trade agreemen finally donet, huh? Permanent recession is a b**** I hear. Trillions at stake in the long-term, right? While we're on the subject, you really like NATO protecting your ass from Putin, esp. after the Ukraine thing? So maybe let's revisit our Iran deal thingie, mmmmkay? Anywhere, anytime inspections, total removal of uranium from Iranian soil, dismantle Fordow, Arak...no ICBM work.... the works. Mull it over" Rinse and repeat with TTP and our Asian friends. While at it, let China know that one more stock market snafu to the tune of trillions like that, and that place may not be so attractive for foreign investment. GDP slows below 5-6% and here comes the Tiananman Spring in earnest. Maybe a credit rating hit or 2, just to get the message across. Putin may not like it? He is kinda over a barrel and up a tree with the E. Ukraine mess + disastrous oil price trends. If ever there was a time to make him, um, "amenable" to a more strict Iranian deal, it's now. Then again, with genius like Wendy Sherman of North Korean fame... in charge of negotiations, I am surprised New York City hasn't been officially made a part of the new Persian Empire. Point is, there are a lot of tools, big and small, for a unmatched superpower to put the Mullahs back in their place and eventually facilitate the Persian uprising which is the only real way to ensure the end of their program. The humiliating surrender in Vienna, sadly isn't one of them. YKMV. You realize that when we did things like sign trade agreements with China and granted them permanent "Most favored nation" status, the ability to place sanctions on China basically was given up? Do you really think it's worth it to Americans to lose their apple computers and iphones to keep Iran from becoming a nuclear armed country? Do you really think the American business world would put up with losing tens of billions of dollars in imports in order to keep Iran from becoming a nuclear armed country? The answer to that is probably found in the trade agreements we've signed with them. And one more to highlight. Yup, I've never seen any case in the Middle East where I've said "We're going to be stuck in a decade long disaster" and someone else said oh that's false it'll be much easier.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) Even if it came to military action, I do not see the U.S. Invading Iran. Blowing the hell out of the suspected sites? Yes. Invasion? No. Still do not have an answer as to why we agreed to the ballistic missile and weapons give up. And still no answer how they will enforce this agreement if they cannot even enforce the existing sanctions on one man. the UN is useless. We need to think long and hard about the amount of money we send there. What would be the Iranian response to bombing of their suspected weapons sites other than a much more determined, intensive program to complete construction of a bomb and how would you verify the amount of damage done to them? You can't. You need an invasion, it becomes the only way. Furthermore, are you prepared to deal with the other consequences of that, such as losing your main ally in fighting Isis in central Iraq?

I think this goes in the Republican thread since it's still your primary where you get to trash him, if he gets to the general then I'll drop stuff like this in the Dem thread. He then goes to twitter and takes anyone listening for suckers.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) I think we're really grasping at straws to find reasons to keep Ventura as manager. His time as manager has been a disaster. The team was ill-prepared coming out of spring training. We saw it. He's managed a team that folded in a weak division in 2012. He's had teams that did quit--2013. 99 losses? C'mon. I'm hoping that with his career earnings and relationship with Reinsdorf and the organization, he'll step aside as manager and be "reassigned within the organization". It's time for a change, and really, there's no good reason to argue this point anymore. And I'll believe it when I see it. I'm expecting a contract extension.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 03:08 AM) Fwiw, that guy in Norway (Anders something) who killed 69 on that summer youth camp island only got a 21 year sentence... However, because of how Norway's system works, he will not be out of jail after 21 years, there is some method for renewing that sentence. He will be in jail for life.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 8, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) Greg: I agree Robin should go. In fact, i thought his hire was a mistake. But look at how well the team played just before the All Star break. Why??? Melky, Eaton, Abreu all got hot. Plus the arrival of Sanchez and Saladino settled the defense. then after the break they nose-dived. Why?? Rodon and Sale had back to back poor performances and Shark and Danks were good and bad. Robin needs to go if only for a change in the clubhouse. But manager's success is usually determined by player success. Boston fans are wrestling w John Farrell's fate. First year in Boston he wins a World Series and the next 2 years are a disaster. Did he forget how to manage??? If you want me to say something positive about Robin, the White Sox haven't quit. They're not that good and they're not well prepared and their pitchers are gassed after the tough first half, but they haven't mentally checked out like the Indians or Red Sox have.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 11:11 PM) Shuck is Shuck going on the DL brought up doubleT, Bonifacio going on the DL brought up Leury.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 11:10 PM) I will say that having Bonifacio and Beckham on the bench to go with Leury is a complete joke. Bonifacio is on the DL still right?

Really? Even I'd PH for Flowers here.

LaRoche did something!

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:56 PM) L.Ron said earlier Danks delivery is max effort and that could describe Fulmer from what I've been reading and because of that some see him as a reliever. He night need a few years before we see him at the big league level. His delivery reminded me of McCarthy. It's really quick and he flies through it. Didn't make me think of Danks. He's not as lanky so it's like he just starts and explodes forwards.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:56 PM) Does he look really uncomfortable to you after he releases the ball? No more than usual, he always had that really weird motion.
-
There we go, 100.
-
Is he seriously pairing a slider varying between 90 and 93 with a 99 mph fastball?

Filthy. Destroys Morales.

Nasty. I like.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:39 PM) Robin gone is step one this offseason. I hope we start to hear some rumblings in a month. We hear nothing and then in January we hear Robin signs a contract extension.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 10:42 PM) Seems like Saladino is in-between a lot on his swings. Aced him. Tough pitch.
