  1. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) Balta made the comment that said he was in rookie ball last year. I would like to see some sustained success from him. I am not a fan of a flash in the pan types with mental health issues. Maybe I'm harsh, but I would rather focus on a MLB ready prospect as the center piece for Jake. If you read your own article though, he got himself a late start for drug-related issues, was only drafted in 2010, but has hit at every level and rapidly worked his way up. A valid question might be whether he's emotionally up for being traded, I will grant you that.
  2. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) Tank absolutely ABUSES the Tigers This is true, his numbers for teh 2nd half may look a lot better just because we have 19 games against Detroit.
  3. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) He's in the JR loyalty belt. Why haven't the fire Manto conversations came about yet? People can believe that this team isn't talented enough, and there are several guys showing positive signs this year, including a very important Gordon Beckham, as well as Rios. I don't think the development of Viciedo or Flowers will put his job in jeopardy...yet.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) He is learning and sometimes the hard way Has he actually shown any sign of learning a lesson?
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) The White Sox do not think 100 pitches is a lot. This isn't news Usually they still seem to think 110+ is getting there though, at least enough that they don't send a guy out to warm up again.
  6. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) That is not the point. He finished with a K and several pitches over 100 to end the 7th. Hell, I think he was at 111 or so.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:24 PM) What are you talking about? It absolutely is a failure of this organization that Crain is DL'ed. The workload they put on him for no reason was what caused this. I assume you have the medical reports to justify this?
  8. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) They just played Sweet Home Alabama as Peavy walked off. So they're sending Jake to Birmingham?
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) I assume we'll see him mid-August Isn't he still on the DL?
  10. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) Gattis is in no way good enough to be a return for Jake. Wasn't he a janitor last year or some random job outside of baseball? He got 300+ plate appearances between rookie ball and AA last year, following 300+ plate appearances the year before as well. Not sure what he does with his offseason?
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) I love that guy. I hope he gets it. His attitude and his play are exactly what I hope for from my White Sox He hasn't done anything worthy of a standing O. He had barely 1 good season for us, and that season didn't even get a playoff birth.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) Peavy probably comes out for the 6th and Robin pulls him so he can get an ovation from the crowd at some point ? Or Robin ignores everything and treats it like a normal game ? Why would Peavy deserve the going-away ovation?
  13. 5 year, $103.75 million extension for Matt Ryan.
  14. QUOTE (almagest @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:34 PM) Tigers announcers talking about how Verlander had no business throwing a slider to Flowers because he couldn't catch up to his fastball. To be fair, gameday has the slider coming in at 92 mph.
  15. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:31 PM) I agree with you. I think DET is a bad fit for us here. The reason people keep bringing them up is that they seem like a team with a real bullpen need who might overpay for a closer, and they have a guy (Castellanos) who might well be a guy you'd say "They seriously gave him up just to get a closer"?
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) If Jake goes in a trade we better do better then some AA OF prospect. How many touted OF prospects do we have? Boston's Will Middlebrook sounded interesting for 3B Middlebrooks sounds terrible as a major return for Peavy.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) Where it has been all year. Non existiant Actually I checked this today, the Sox are in the middle of the pack in the AL for hitting with RISP, hitting .258 and 9th in the league. The problem is we've had the fewest at bats with RISP in the AL. Fewer than Houston.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) I just don't really want anything in their system except Castellanos, and I don't think he would be on the table for a RP like Reed. Then there continues to be zero reason to trade Reed. The only reason to trade a closer this far away from free agency is if someone knocks your socks off. I keep saying, the response to any trade of Reed should be "wow, I can't believe team x gave up that guy for a closer".
  19. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) They're speculating that if we put Crain on waivers while he is still hurt, he may clear waivers If I had an opne 40 man slot, I'd jump on him in a second. $1 million is all I have to gamble on that pitcher? Sign me up.
  20. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) I'd do Reed for Castellanos in a heartbeat if at all possible... I know this is PIPE DREAM stuff here...but can you imagine the future of out infield if we pulled these deals off. Det: Castellanos (Reed, ?) Stl: Adams (Lexi, Crain + ?) AZ: Owings+ (Peavy) or however you make these work...how would that infield sound for the future with Gordo? So if you swing the first deal of Rios you can include whatever piece you get back in one of these deals or not. I know this sounds XBox-y...but possible. You have to figure at least 1 of those 3, maybe more, winds up not working out.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 03:03 PM) How does Jake's fastball look? Gameday gun has him consistently at 92.
  22. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) Alex Rodriguez (quad) said in a statement Thursday that he is "excited and ready to play." A-Rod hired a doctor to go on a radio station Wednesday in New York and say that he has no quad injury, prompting a rather stern response from Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. "I think the Yankees and I crossed signals," Rodriguez wrote in his statement Thursday. "I don't want any more mixups. I'm excited and ready to play and help this team win a championship. I feel great and I'm ready and want to be in the lineup Friday night. Enough doctors, let's play." He lives on another planet. I'm genuinely surprised there hasn't been a union grievance filed yet. You're not supposed to be able to use the DL for anything other than "guy is legitimately hurt".
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) How is this the organizations fault? Crain has been on the DL already once this year and was on it a couple times last year I believe. The organization was clearly negligent in their refusal to hire Jesus as their team doctor.
  24. Study finds that since NHL supposedly began penalizing hits to the head, concussions in the league have actually gone up rather than down, and only 28% of concussions actually occurred on plays where the hit drew a penalty. The most common type of hit to cause a concussion is a body check, and those hits aren't penalized.
  25. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 25, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) Crain's good enough that I would still do a deal while he's on the DL. If I were a team like the Tigers, I might well look at this as my way to get a near-elite reliever for 2 months at a discount. And if I were a team at the top of my division needing relief help, I'd definitely do the gamble on this since he won't make it to my team on waivers. It probably ought to cost the Sox some on talent, but I'd gamble on him if I were a GM and his medical reports weren't too risky.
