  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 03:12 PM) Do you think Hector is learning how to pitch this year? He has good stuff sometimes and good stretches, then lousy innings like this one as early as the 4th inning? Yes. I very much think Hector is learning how to pitch. He's the standard young pitcher, nibbling too much rather than going after guys. When he gets in trouble he gets Coop and Flowers saying "Just throw something!" and then snaps it back together. He also has to deal with the Sox never stretching him out in the spring and jerking him back and forth to the pen, which also kept him from having a great chance to develop the offspeed pitches.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Yeah Dickerson is a 1B who's hitting 296 14 HR and 57 RBIs in AA. And Kingham is 3-2 with a 2.89 ERA in AA. The fact that one of them is a 1b catches the eye immediately as that's IMO our biggest position of need right now.
  3. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) It's on like donkey kong!!! Please f***ing don't wait until tonight to disclose the trade - I want to be a productive human being again!!! Peavy's next scheduled start would be Tuesday, right? That would mean monday/tuesday would be the day to get that done.
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:58 PM) Well according to mlb.com Kingham is #9 and Dickerson is #14 in the Pirates system. Without looking at them specifically, I'd guess that'd put them 5-6 and 9-10 in our org.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) I don't need to wait four years for a high schooler to come up to the majors when he could be a major bust like Luke Hochevar, et. all. It's too much of an inexact science. I prefer wins for the Chicago White Sox. I prefer a world series win for the White Sox. These twits on the field f***ed over any chance of that this year, so now I'm rooting for us to be in the best position possible for next year.
  6. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:55 PM) welcome aboard! this totally sounds like a ploy to get other teams to up their offers. Hahn seems to be working this deadline like we all want him to, and the sox need him to. Hopefully, Ricks not screwing other GMs over and burning bridges. So far all this seems standard, and at least from the PLayer's side, Peavy seems quite content with how the Sox have treated him and kept him informed.

  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) The benefit is that the three hours a day I spend watching are better spent I'd rather we keep losing but f***ing look better on the field and stop losing games by looking like morons.
  9. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) Love the AM radio quality I am getting on my CSN feed here. At least it's not just me.
  10. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:27 PM) It's like a plea bargain. "You can take the rest of the year now, or you'll be appealing a 150 game suspension" I think that offer has probably already expired for everyone else, or at the least will do so this week\. I'd imagine the guy who took it was the only guy going to take it.
  11. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) We'll see if a 1-0 deficit against Bruce Chen holds up. The Royals aren't going to be done.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) A few starts from now, he'll be all the way from 89-85 Considering how we've bounced him around this season that probably shouldn't be that surprising. He's going to have to work through the wall this year.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) 5 full suitcases??? Those are some hefty baggage fees! That way he's set for the next 2 months.
  14. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) Santiago at 89-92? So? That's where he's been all season. He was 89-93 his last 2 starts out, 89-94 the starts before that.
  15. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) Who gives a f*** about those guys? Not trying to be a naysayer, but one in the hand is worth two in the bush. If those guys look like MLB ready players, those are good problems. Don't skip out on a good player because you think a couple 22 year olds in A+ and AA might be ready in a year. I say this as someone that really likes Marcus Semien. Get all the potential MLB guys that you can and figure out the rest later. It's also going to be wrong to assume that every guy we get in these trades will pan out as well. You should assume that at least 1, if not more of them, will bust. Same thing with the guys we have.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 10:59 PM) How are they going to call the bullpen now? Smoke signals? There is a tin can sitting on top of the bullpen phone today.
  17. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) I would rather Jakemeister go to NL Bah, if we're in aposition next year where we're fighting against the team we traded peavy to for a playoffs spot...I'll be thrilled because we're fighting for a playoff spot and the 2013 on-the-field-bullcrap stopped.
  18. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:25 PM) I disagree. The appeals process will be very difficult, as none of these suspensions are based on actual tests. As a result, baseball can actually suspend the players for however long they choose, as the CBA stipulated suspensions (50, 100, life), are for failed drug tests only. If the players are actually dumb enough to appeal MLB's decisions, and if MLB thinks their evidence is iron clad, Selig could increase the suspensions to whatever he feels like (see Arod's potential suspension). Baseball can respond to a player using their right to appeal by increasing a suspension? That doesn't sound right.
  19. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 01:12 PM) I wish the bulls could trade nothing for something like other teams manage to do. Pacers get Scola for green. A first round pick (lottery protected) and Plumlee are going along with Green. The first round pick is clearly the motivation.
  20. If the Sox insisted on Adams to fill their actual need at 1b, which guy would both teams swap out to include him?
  21. QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) I assume that if Rios is suspended it would be 50 games plus the postseason. Is that everyone's else assumption? Actually it sounds like that is not the assumption, people seem to be guessing that MLB is going to start with at least 100 games, which they apparently have the right to do. They may attempt to do a lifetime ban for ARoid for all we know. The only reason Braun would willingly take 65 is that MLB was going to come down with something harder than 50 on him.
  22. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) Cruz is an idiot if he appeals Depending on what MLB comes down with, these appeals might have a chance at some success, at least getting the suspensions cut down.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) I know I'm probably in the minority, but I'd rather keep Peavy, and to a lesser extent Rios, rather than getting rid of them just for the sake of getting rid of them. Yes, shedding salary would be nice, but I don't know where the salary savings can be spent that's going to be as worthwhile as holding out for top level talent in return for trades. Play it down until 3pm on the 31st if necessary--I have a feeling some team out there will cave in on Peavy, and maybe Rios also. No reason to pull the trigger before the deadline unless somebody is offering the moon. At least with Peavy, I really want his innings to go to the guys we can develop with those innings. Long term, this franchise benefits more if Johnson gets 5 big league starts in September than if Peavy does.
  24. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) Cruz will likely be suspended for the rest of the year. They have to do something if they want to play in October. These are going to be some long appeals.
  25. You know, this seems like this thread could last the next 2 months.
