QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) Don't expect him to hit right away. Expect that he may need more than a season to adapt to big league pitching. Expect that he'll come up and hit worse than Flowers. That should be the expectation with every prospect. Time for a bump. Josh Phegley is now hitting .207 on the season with a .617 OPS. Tyler Flowers is hitting .205 on the season with a .629 OPS. The countdown is on until ST turns on him, declares him a bust, says it was a mistake to call him up, that he was called up too early, that he's "not a good player", that he has a terrible approach, that he has no talent, that it's the organization's fault, that they never develop hitters, that he will never learn to hit, and that they need to DFA him immediately. I give it another week.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 03:01 AM) I'd rather sign free agents than talk about the draft in which no player will help us for a minimum of 4 years unless he's a mature college guy. It's a message board and there is no reason to talk about the games. As soon as the trade deadline passes we can talk about both.

Employees number 6 and 7 took plea deals in the Pilot Flying J fraud case today. They're been getting 2 a month for a while now. This is totally going all the way to Jimmy Haslam, with this number of plea bargains.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) So you wouldn't consider Tavares, Martinez, Wacha, Adams, Wong and Blazek for him? Nope. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:55 PM) You don't trade one of the most valuable piece in the game for prospects. Hes under contract forever it doesn't matter if we aren't winning soon. I'm still waiting on Trout being available, then we can talk Sale. -

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:30 PM) Jacobs with a homer for bham. It would be great to see that slg% come up. One of his fly outs last night was to the wall in center.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) I seriously do not remember a deadline so nutty on Soxtalk before. In 07 Kenny gave up and extended everyone rather than trading them. I wonder what 03 was like. -

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) An NL executive that has recently spoken with Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. told Andy Martino of the New York Daily News that he thinks Lee will be dealt (Twitter link). That executive chose Boston as the likely destination. Martino is careful to note that it's "informed speculation" on the executive's behalf, as opposed to something that Amaro came out and said directly. MLBTR Google Translation: Bull Sheet! This is Bens response to RH saying we keep Peavy. An NL executive? Informed soectulation? Now this from Hayes this is great LMaO. This is been a hilarious 48 hour game of car and mouse that's why i see Boston as the place. It had been quiet on that front the past two days till a bout a hour ago. Now we're building around PV? And Bostons going for Cliff my guess talks have stalled and they are posturing for when they go back to the negotiation table. A game of car and mouse sounds like a mismatch. -
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 07:30 PM) And we will give you healthcare for life for free and 3% cola every year regardless if CPI is 1%. , 2% or negative. Not our problem how to pay for it. We deserve it. No one needs healthcare. It just makes people lazy.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 06:37 PM) Anybody who enjoys microbrews should definitely check out Asheville, NC and the surrounding areas. I just got back. We hit 15 different breweries in 5 days. Very cool, laid back place surrounded by the Smoky Mountains. We do allright .

Does anybody think The Plan is to be this left-handed in 2014?
Balta1701 replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) For sure. I think it's safe to say all of our pitchers have been hurt by our defense, and it's well beyond unearned runs. 48 hours from now, I'd take a B prospect for Rios, Alexei and De Aza. We can clear a lot of salary and get replacement level players who at least won't clown around like these 3. Could also get a defensive catcher too. Moving De Aza really doesn't clear a lot of salary. He's worth more than a B prospect. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) The high pitch count is a result of being a strike-out pitcher and he walks too many batters. But experience might fix that and then we have a stud. He's got a high ceiling I think. He doesn't through insanely hard, but a lot of K pitchers don't. His average fastball this year so far is 1 mph slower than Sale's (and that's with having been jerked between the bullpen and the rotation). -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 06:02 PM) Obviously we have no idea what has been offered, what reports are true, etc. but if the sticking point on a Peavy trade is the Sox not picking up some of his salary they are being incredibly short sighted by not doing a deal. If that's the issue then it also makes sense for the White Sox to hold out until the bitter end, at the very least tomorrow. If there's a deal on the table the Sox would accept, they can play brinksmanship and see if they can extract several million more dollars out of their trading partner. No pitcher better than Peavy is going to suddenly appear on the market. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) The assumption that everyone is smart isnt something that should be taken into consideration. A good portion of us will die before we ever reach retirement age. Once again, retirement is a luxury and a choice, not a right. It absolutely is at a national policy level.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:34 PM) Sure, but it is not out of the ordinary for teams to buy low. Perhaps I should have said I could see the FO dangling Santiago (maybe Quintana but I feel Santiago) for positional talent this off season. Like I said, I could certainly see such a thing happening, but again, I think the comp is something like the Matt Latos trade. The Padres got 2 prospects in the top 50 in MLB, give or take, in addition to a major league starting pitcher with a ton of talent (Volquez) and a nearly MLB ready reliever in Brad Boxberger. If someone's willing to offer something similar, a 4 for 1 deal with 4 MLB ready guys, 1 of whom is a guy whose stock has dropped and 3 other legit pieces, then we can talk. I just don't know that I foresee teams doing such a deal. -
QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) The downside is that the Rays could theoretically make another trade with some of the more attractive PTBNL prospects, right? Presumably this is part of the agreement also, what happens if a guy gets traded. These 2 teams aren't going to be trying to trick each other here. The Rays want a reliever and protection if he's hurt, the Sox want to get fair value for their guy but realize that he's on the DL right now so they have to offer that protection. If there was a team trying to trick the other one, the Sox wouldn't have made the deal.
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) Right obviously, but can the include playoff IP in the deal or if the rays are up 5 games in the last week and he needs 3 IP to fetch the top tier player, can they "rest him until the playoffs" or ? The answer to this is "trade Jake Peavy to Boston and make it as tight as we can" . I'm sure they have lots of details to this. The Rays aren't a Rizzo-like dishonest franchise, they're not here to burn a bridge. They wanted protection for if Crain isn't healthy, not a way to screw over another team. Maddon will use Crain as he sees fit, if he's healthy enough to pitch.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) I wonder when/how the details will surface... Anyone familiar with such a deal in the past. Like Chisoxfn said...the teams will probably really want to keep the details under wraps because they won't want A-ballers knowing that their name was on a list to be traded and having to deal with that for days/weeks at a time.
