Mitchell scores on a force out after singling, stealing 2nd, and having the bases loaded behind him. Molina has settled down since the first. Had a baserunner in the 2nd but retired him on a DP, had a baserunner in the 4th but after a deflection.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 05:44 PM) He actually came out for the first batter in the 6th, which was Prince Fielder, who promptly hit a double. I think he was just coming out for the one hitter though. Yeah, you had Sale a lefty or Jones a righty and you had to pick which of them got Fielder. That's not an easy task for either of them.

Molina gives up a HR in the first.

Charlotte loses in the bottom of the 9th, a couple walks and the winning run given up by Anthony Carter. 3 hit day for Kuhn. 5 IP, 8 hits, 2 runs, 1 BB, 4 K for Stults. Most of Charlotte's lineup had hits, but Phegley's HR was the only runs.

Pitchtrax had that first strike in the same spot the ump wouldn't call for Sale. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 05:09 PM) What are our chances at a comeback without PK chipping in? A 4 run deficit gives you very small chances of coming back anyway. -

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 05:06 PM) A few more YEARS at third is not going to make a talent-deficient ballplayer any better than what he is now. The experience is over, next rabbit out of Kenny's hat please..... Talent deficient? Seriously...this has to be a joke right? -

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 05:05 PM) Not sure why Ventura doesn't trust Stewart. He could have even brought Stewart in the sixth to start the inning. He is the long reliever and that seemed like a spot for the long reliever since our Sale threw so many pitches and could only go five. Didn't like Sale starting the sixth. He already threw 100 pitches. Tiggs were having good ABs against him. Sale must have been tiring. Sale started the 6th because it was Prince Fielder, a tough lefty, at the plate, and Sale against Fielder, even while tired, seems like a better matchup than Stewart or Jones against Fielder to start an inning. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 05:03 PM) Viciedo should be behind Konerko tomorrow. He's getting there, but there's plenty of "Mental reasons" to take it easy with the kid. We've screwed around enough with him, let's at least let him get comfortable in the lineup. -

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) Absolutely HATE. HATE. HATE. winning the first two games and losing the last. Even if it's a series win, somehow doesnt feel like it. They need to rock Baltimore tomorrow, get the bad taste out of their mouths... Philip Humber has a philled up gas tank. (man, that was bad). -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) Yep, pretty terrible decision making by Ventura today with the pitchers. Of course, he did have a good lineup set today and the offense failed to show up. This game is one of those games you just lose in every aspect. If Porcello can throw like this all year, then a lot of offenses will be failing to show up. -

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 05:01 PM) And add Escobar at second to that thread as well. I love Beckman but Kenny and Ozzie destroyed him with all those needless mind games and position shifts. He'll never be any good to the Sox and it"s a real tragedy. They even destroyed his name... -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 04:59 PM) Balta, who do you think should be batting 2nd? No one's going to like hearing me say it, but I'd give Morel at least 2 more weeks. If things continue the way they are, Dunn will be dropping in the order along with Morel, and Viciedo will be moving up, and then there will be a De Aza/AJ/Konerko/Viciedo top of the lineup, but then that's pretty aggressively moving Viciedo up. Anyway...I still say this season is about developing guys, so I'd keep Morel there for a while longer. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 04:57 PM) Well, clearly Ventura trusts the veteran Ohman over what he saw out of Stewart this spring. It will take some time for Zach to re-earn Robin's confidence. It's one thing to face the bottom of the order, it's quite another to go through the heart of the line-up unscathed. If Will Ohman against RH is > Zach Stewart against RH in Ventura's mind, then Stewart shouldn't be on the roster. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) Except Danks didn't spend any time with us in the minors, Lillibridge was largely developed by the Braves, it's at least 50/50 with Flowers being groomed into a top prospect with the Braves (along with PED use, we should take credit for much of his defensive development), then Ramirez/Viciedo were internationally experienced Free Agents and again Ramirez was already a finished product. Same with DeAza. Even Sale was more "talent selection" rather than development. You could really say the same about Beckham. The only players we've nurtured from start to finish have been Morel, Addison Reed, Nathan Jones, Escobar and 50-75% Viciedo. Again though, the "Start to finish" thing really is bull when you've got a GM who makes more trades than anyone else in baseball, because guys who move up but get traded don't count, and guys we trade for don't count. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 03:52 PM) That's what the minor leagues are for. Not really in middle relief, with bullpens that go 7 deep. If a guy can throw a 97 mph fastball for a strike, he's not going to be long for the minors. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 15, 2012 -> 03:54 PM) That's a great point. I wouldn't mind if they get rid of the change-up and go fastball/curve. He seemed to be aiming that change-up. They're not going to "Get rid" of anything based on 2 outings. -
