QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) And that's why Danks should have been traded to the Yankees or Rangers at the deadline this year. Having Danks be hurt and struggle early this year really hurt the chances of that.

Was that as solid of a play in RF by DV as the radio guys made it sound?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) I would expect it unless the Yankees and Red Sox sign a lot of pitchers in the next year. Will Boston really be in the market for SP after 2012? Buchholz and Lester sorta give them a lot of depth.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) Then you wish him the best. He's not a 17 million dollar pitcher to me. 14 is the max the Sox should go. If I were the Yankees this offseason and he were a FA this offseason, there's no reason at all not to offer him $100/6, and that's $16.6 million.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) He's not going to make 17 million a year. I wouldn't be shocked at him getting that if he hits the open market.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:36 PM) runner on 2nd no outs, 3rd 1 out, when you're down 6 you have to get that guy in. Don't worry...our cleanup hitter is the guy who has the last shot!

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) Stewart is not impressive at all to me. Anyway you slice it, going from Hudson to Stewart is awful. They were talking about this on the radio today as well, so it's not just me saying this. You know I'm as unhappy as anyone about going from Hudson to Jackson. Going from Jackson to Stewart is a smart move. And I really don't care that you're unimpressed by Stewart after 2 starts. Again, it's the same mistake that was made with Hudson--being unimpressed after 3 starts.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) Hudson for Stewart looks just lovely as well GMAB fathom. Hudson for Jackson was terrible. Jackson for Stewart still looks promising. Unless you're saying you can judge everything from Stewart on 3 starts. After all, judging Dan Hudson based on 3 starts worked great.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:23 PM) After all, it worked for the Greeks! The Greeks are doing exactly what you want this country to do...massive cutbacks in government spending. Their economy is not growing in response. In fact it is crashing. So either there are many more complications to your story...like the fact that the Greeks don't have their own currency...which are being ignored...or your example proves me right.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) So the Democrats lied in order to make their plan look really unsuccessful? Technically the GDP numbers on which the Stimulus size was based were published before the Obama Administration took office. Therefore, if you're going to argue something this silly...the Bush Administration lied in order to sabotage the economy to the next administration is the right interpretation.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) Again, this whole argument is silly, when you consider that the lefties are correct (in that the stimulus bill did, clearly and demonstrably, keep UE numbers a lot better than they may have been), and the righties are correct (in that the stimulus bill did not push the economy into growth, was not well designed, increased debt load, and failed to come close to the expectations set by the White House, whose economic analysis was itself flawed). Really, you guys are talking past each other on this. It never, ever could have. It was way too small. It needed to massively increase the debt load. And have much fewer tax cuts.
